Jungles of Sess'Inek

·763 words·4 mins

Crazy new belt found in a jungle somewhere (inquire at blacksmith):

Object ‘girdle berserker’, Item type: ARMOR

Item is: HUM MAGIC CAN-SHAPESHIFT

Weight: 3, Value: 546379gold, Worn in: TAKE WAIST

AC-apply is -0.4

Can affect you as:

Affects: WEAPON_DAMAGE by 1

Affects: STR by 1

Only those who are at least novice avatars may use this item.

Requires: 5000000 coins, 1x the crest of the scaled warrior,

1x the horn of brotherhood, 1x a lizard-scale belt,

2x a polished black opal

We are looking into the item. When it was approved the can-shapeshift flag was not included.

Feel free to suggest changes to this item. We can’t put this much AC with a shiftable item, sorry!

What do you guys think about 2 forges, similar to the heal bonus and spell bonus shards on island. One would be can-shapeshift with .2 ac and same stats above. The other would be no can-shapeshift flag with same stats as above. Never know which one you are forging?

Splork

Suggestion: Remove Can Shift.

Presto. Good looking item.

Greetings.

After much deliberation, we’ve solved the quandary aforementioned.

First of all, the forge cost has been dramatically reduced. This is

largely due to the fact that this forge will now yield one of two items

with the same name. One item will yield a girdle with -0.2 AC

+1 Weapon Damage +1 Strength Shape-Shiftable waist item, while

the other chance will produce a -0.4 AC +1 Weapon Damage +1 STR

waist item.

This change should satisfy the concerns regarding balance while also

providing the possibility for a pretty nice item that maintains the

original idea for the item. We certainly thank you for your patience

in updating this item.

While I applaud your efforts to add useful items to the game, may I inquire as to what’s the reasoing to include weapon damage to a shiftable item? Does it apply to druid forms? Or is it only useful in minotaur with an aklys?

Thanks.

While I agree that in many cases Druid damage forms will be preferrable to using

a weapon for those players, there’s a few instances, I believe however, at the

time I was reasoning where Druid may be in a group, relying on the mana regen

and playing the part of another class (for the group’s sake) while remaining in

regular form and using a weapon. Secondly, this item may have appealed to

non-Druid primes that occasionally feel the need to shift to more defensive

forms while mainting the ability to pickup. remove, wear, and carry everything

they want and/or need.

Now, let’s separate the stats of the original form of this item into two groups: strength

w/weapon dam and AC. In one situation, the AC would be helpful whereas the STR +

WPN DAM serves its purpose in another situation. With this reasoning, the item serves a

dual purpose while never serving both at once without having to change gear.

Let’s now take the dual purpose idea a step further and group STR with AC and WPN

DAM by itself. STR translates to damage and hitroll for many players, and that transposes

itself onto the damage forms like, say, owlbear. Suddenly, the druid feels the need to ship

and assist with healing in a group. No need to change your belt if they don’t have a Heal Bonus

or regen belt; they can keep some AC and give their weapon some bonus damage while in the

group while tossing some heals the way of their tank.

Now, of course this won’t apply to all characters and playing styles, but perhaps it could

apply to some of them. I’m sure there are other reasons that could apply, but these are just

the main reasonings I recall using at the time. Also, on occasion, it’s more about the option

of equipment rather than the option of great equipment. You never can tell when that

character will come around and think to him or herself, ‘Hey, that would be pretty nifty for

what it is that I am trying to accomplish!" Lastly, there may be something I or someone

else is trying to implement for some cases that may change the mechanics of the situational

practices down the line, and that is all I am going to say about that.

Hope that helps.

Thanks to the reply.

Taking into account two sets seems smart. Though I don’t see how druids can omit to use a regen belt in their cleric form. Unless they are lazy and aim to limit the amount of eq to carry.
