Your thoughts on class orders...

·1108 words·6 mins

I started an experimental classo on this new mud… Dr Mo… I wanted to give it a go, also another part of me didn’t want to make a too powerful classo that might trap me into playing this game more than I should (at this stage in life). How many times have I justified playing an extra hour just because times were ripe

I’ve had a few comments about my classo, not surprised there… my reasoning was that druid can solo the eq I need… it’s good regen, and shield of thorns works unshifted to minimise my damage if I played monk… combined with deathgrip for faster xp and damage reduction extra hp’s… (It was obvious the new sloth was slow requiring twice the xp than the old one) I hoped for a platform which was “more balanced” could run faster and longer, could take a beating with sanct/fluid/shield of thorns/dam reduct stacking.

Anyways, yesterday I didn’t have much on, and I spent 7.5 hrs getting to level 25 monk to learn deathgrip. I got there, read the book, and went to the catacombs to test it out. After two whiffs I finally gripped a skeleton… after release he had a few scratches… hmm

So I went to quicklings and deathgripped a quickling, it went to incap just by the end of my grip. Ok, so I was pretty disappointed… admittedly my str sucks (16), I have no worn damage and I am only level 25 secondary monk… but I guess I had hoped deathgrip might be better than a round with a sword, or a powerful strike…

Anyways, it was an experiment this character, there was always the risk of it not working out, and in that sense I’m not disappointed. So anyways I guess I have two options… continue on or make a new char.

So then I got to thinking, say someday I finish my current character, he will have all nearly all the same skills, and eq as a new character that I might make… so whats the point… all for a few more points of mana?

Anyways… what do you think I should do… and just how important is class order these days, what order is looking strong for solo/xp?

It seems obvious that non monk prime is fairly crap for deathgrip, and even if damage reduction was sweet stacked with all the other goodies… for the sake of a few less points of dam reduct only, I should have put it past 4th position. Or do you think some decent eq will sharpen my grip and make this char finally work. I was hoping to get xp faster solo than a 4xCaster combo.

Seems to me that at 8x40 the biggest impact your classo will have on you is your prime choice.

Second to this of course your second class will have a big influence on your max hp / max mana.

[i:3tgrm7bp]For some the stato affected by prime / second may also be some influence.[/i:3tgrm7bp]

Other than these as far as I can see classo only really affects when you get things not what you get, so, for example, I chose WA at 3 not because I think its best there in the long run, but just to get wa eq earlier.

The big exceptions to this are cleric supplications, necro pets and druid forms (druid pets too but for the amount these are ever used they count for little). These are classo position dependant.

For this reason I put cl 2nd to my necro prime just to get bigger and earlier supplication pets, but then this important to my necro prime which is heavily dependant on pets.

Opening all players to all classes is to me an odd but welcome development, and removes much if not all of the heartache from the classo choice. I feel it unlikely that again I will get to 4x40 or even Av and then decide my classo is wrong or dosen’t work (as I have done twice once for a bad initial choice and once due to an in game change) and be faced with the prospect of starting again.

To answer you Jezer I guess that if monk grip is important to you then make a mo prime … all else is just fluff.

I’d imagine for solo xp you’d be best off with thief prime or necro prime.

Solo xp is rough though. Don’t know why you’d want to do it.

If played right Druid prime will outstrip either thief or necro solo xp pre 4x40, after that, well the thief if probably the fastest solo xp if they can get a raiser on hand.

True, but its more fun and groups are a painfully boring necessity.

What about mage primes with with warrior ac, druid regen, and necro pets? I know someone who thinks that’s rockin.

Do you think some primes will emerge more powerful because they are better supported by the other classes?

EDIT: What I am getting at here… is Druid although it was God’s wrath with good eq at 5x40, it’s a class that is not really supported by any other class… if your shifted… hence I think maybe the other classes get more out of multiclassing than druid… hence will we see players with attack rounds as much as piasa? or even bigger than… take a mage with 6 attacks, pets and a frostbolt at -10+ ac

personaly I think if you take and get some monk grip items you would have a good character, but I am bias since my wife runs a monk prime. but I’ve seen what a good grip can do shrugs

Don’t take my opinions on this too seriously, because I haven’t been playing much and there’s a lot I don’t know about the new game.

I think you’re right about druid. As far as mage prime goes, I’m a little unimpressed. There’s not a whole lot of mage style stuff in game and mage prime abilities don’t impress me much. I would say that warrior prime is awesome. Thief prime still pretty awesome. Necro still the best soloer. Cleric will always be good. Monk and bard I don’t know much about.

It’s almost impossible to know how they will play out though because of the hidden things. Each class has certain benefits that they don’t tell us about. So really we won’t know how the classes will play out, until they are played out.
