Periodically we try and adjust the trip40 eq, the last time was about 5 years ago so some of it is sorely in need of updating. Here is the new list of what will be available and what the stats of each item are. Some items got dropped, if you happen to have one of these you can hang on to it or trade it in for free for another item, but you cannot get that item again. Some items may be re-introduced or new items may be added, but this is the list that will go into affect within the next couple of days. Your existing items, if they gets changed, will be changed automatically.
Exchanges on items will be capped at 1 mil cost until sept.1, at which point they go back to the usual exchange rates.

Changing Triple 40 Items:
1st exchange: 3 million
2nd exchange: 5 million
3rd exchange: 12 million
Any one-time exchanges will skip the exchange cost for that item, but it does count as an exchange. (whatever that means)
Good changes all around.
And thanks a lot for changing maple leaf to mana regen :)
Ah hell, now I lost 11 mana for 1 mana regen, wtf am I gunna do now!?! I needed that mana as a caster now its not there bc I lost an int point!
Just kidding, good work Krom changes look good and fancy hope everyone likes their new eqz!
Very good changes as well, in my view.
Now we should be able to expect to see more then just Curaiss’s and Shrouds for first pick items :)
Thanks alot Krom! Changes look nice and reasonable.
Though, there’s one thing bothering me. Since the AC change, its has become much easier for the most mages to reach spelldam cap with max AC. I find this
- Elven Chain Leggings of the Mystic Guard: 1.7 ac 12 spell bonus 12 heal bonus.[/quote:3jf63ifd]
item quite nice, but on the other hand mages who reached their cap already just have no use for it, or any other good trip40 item, just because they have nothing to improve…
It’s all about consolidating what you need, a slot that packs in ac and spelldam could free up a slot for healbonus, or mana, or regen, or dam, and probably more.
We are reviewing the caps for each spelldam/heal bonus, so kep that in mind.
We are reviewing the caps for each spelldam/heal bonus, so kep that in mind.[/quote:36rvswqj]
I like the sound of that, cap goes up, more damage, cap goes down, more mana/regen, hurrah :)
Some really cool improvements. Works well with some of my current
chars :)
Also wanted to know, will newer stuff for Bards, Monks, and Necro be added?
I’ll be sure to get the eqlist updated as soon as possible, which might be this weekend. I’ve got a buisness trip and 2 fantasy football drafts this week, so I might not be able to get to it before then.

I agree with all the 3x40 eq changes.. save this one.
I must say, this is dissapointing to see. For years the only low dam was a horribly difficult forge requiring weeks of cycling. Most would agree that forging a scarab was a right of passage for most thieves in Sloth. I can remember a few years back that Medios & Deju were teasing me “if you don’t have a scarab, you’re not really a thief!”. I would have to agree, and for that reason of gaining respect of my peers meant that I too must quest for such an item. Any bot can get to 3x40, just because you have the XP does not mean you have the experience. There are many lowbie thief chars out there whom have nfc wtf they are doing and still do not understand the concept of attaining 18/100 str.
Also, before I bother to start. Is there going to be an equivalent made also to make the Ars-Magic useless in the future as well?
I agree with autolycos about the high forges. They should be hard because they are so powerful. I also think the list is a bit thief heavy. held low, dagger, and belt are all impressive thief items.
The list shows good thought overall and hard work. Thank you for that!
Mosaix
it’s a bit caster heavy if ya ask me!
finally dmg held low for monks
One of the complaints the last time 3x40 eq was upgraded was that the Staff of Ra had become more powerful than a 5x40 could get on their light (4mr/30 mana vs 4mr/25 mana). Here it is 5 years later, we’re going through a 2nd upgrade of 3x40 eq, the Staff of Ra gained 5 more mana, and 5x40 stats still have not been addressed. I was hoping that would be part of the 3x40 eq upgrade, but it doesn’t appear that it has. As far as I know, 5x40 light stats have never been changed from what they were when the first avatar reached 5x40. I know there was talk about upgrading those stats, especially to add new class abilities as options, but it’s never been done. Can any immort comment on when we can have that? Depending on the changes, it’s possible that it would affect what 3x40 eq I would be looking at.
I’ve been trying to talk the imms into changing the way the 5x40 gear has been run for like 7 years. What I would like to see are different catagories of what you could put on an avatar light. You cannot choose two of the same choice on a avatar light, it has to be two different choices.
1: +5 mana regen
2: +3 of any stat
3: +2 damage
4: +50 mana
5: +50 hitpoints
6: +25 hprg
7: +75 moves
8: +15 mvrg
9: -.4 ac
etc.. it’s an avatar light, it should be tough
If he was really appreciative of your accomplishments, he would allow you to name your pieces of eq.
F’n lil peeps
Just replying to get the original thread name back, for those people who don’t read every thread with a million responses.
I agree that giving the +dam to a held low item has somewhat invalidated the scarab forge. Sure, I understand that already having the scarab frees up another 3x40 item we can use.. but its still kinda annoying.
Oh… and in all fairness, I told Auto that he wasn’t a real thief because he sucked… not because he didn’t have a scarab.

love you too bro.. kisses
Some of the new tri40 eq is awesome!…theres a few things I’d still like to see, but way to go-much needed! It also got me thinking, that in the past I’ve also seen overlapping eq discrepencies, like a med_quest item becoming lesser as an ingame item becomes better, etc…I think before the other categories of eq are modified/evolved(as they eventually will be), its most important to decide first and foremost, how powerfull each type of eq should be in relation to the other, in other words their power needs to be ranked…for example, and this is just at first glance, #1 being the weakest, I can see something like:
1-in game eq
2-low_quest
3-forges
4-med_quest
5-elite eq
6-3x40 eq
7-high_quest
8-5x40 light
some of these may be switched around..the idea is that once its decided which of these groups is supposed to be more powerfull then the other, etc…then you can begin to alter them so we don’t have conflicts such as hard forges getting bumped by in game eq and other situations like that…
<Chaos>
Weasel, we just got .6 boots. Can’t expect 1 new area to have 7 items with beyond current in-game AC :) I just hope that new AC items aren’t all high-end forges. It’s gonna be hard enough to hit -13 without adding a list of forges to complete :)
Thanks for your work Krom on the 3x40 gear. I’m with the others, though, when they ask for 5x40 lights to be looked at next!

The idea is, like shazuko points out, that the trip40 eq is better than forge items, for instance the feathered cincture forge vs. the tooled girdle, the admantium cuirass vs. 2.5 ac forged armor, the tower shield vs. forged shields, etc…You get a really elite piece of eq for achieving the levels, and as you know I have been working on making damage items for thieves (and in this case monks too) more accessible.
We spent quite some time on the damage item to add, originally it was some .5 ac 1 dmg 15 spell boots, but later opted to go with a rework of the existing held low tome. I like the item, but maybe the ac is a bit on the high side – ill toss around the idea of reworking it to .4 ac 1 dm 10mvr maybe.
I also think the girdle will be adjusted to +2 to hit pre-implementation.
For the quint40 lights–I can take a look at that next.
woof woof!
Nice Work, look forward to running the numbers on all the eq.
Can’t wait to see what you come up w/ the lights.

Thanks for the updated eq but where’s the love for the druids? We seem to be the red headed step children around here :p In the last update for the drachma eq, there were a bunch of necro stuff and spell dam eq for casters but there wasnt one shiftable eq available. Even the hooves which are meant to be for druids arent even shiftable. Aside from that I think the stone token is the only item which is a slight upgrade from ars for about 1k drachma. I hope this message isnt perceived as bitching and whining. I just dont want you folks up there to forget about us. Ginger kids unite!
Yay Kali, good points. I thought you played a Thief though!
Overall, a couple of items were meant for certain classes, and the maple leaf did get a little bit of an upgrade for druids, but the items were kept generic with broader appeal. It was just too difficult to tailor multiple items for each class, and to keep these items current would also be a challenge.
I can feel for the issues with Druid, as the problems are similar with Cleric prime.
I don’t agree that 3x40 eq should necessarily be better than forge eq. Forging high-end eq is infinitely more challenging than sponging xps.

good point.. generally speaking. but avatar light attributes should be a little higher than 3x40 don’t you think?
Id like to add to what is already being said. I think getting to 40 avatar takes some work, to get the light. Getting just to tri-40 can be done rather quickly especially with some help. I found forging the Ars Magica to be the hardest thing I have accomplished on the mud, with the exception of getting to 40 avatar. Hard forges, some of them are very hard, which is why id imagine they were statted the way they were.
Mosaix
Weasel I can see making the avatar light the most powerful eq available for the light slot. For 3x40 eq tho, I’d prefer that players have the opportunity to replace it with more powerful forges. I think we should get out of the mind set that 3x40 eq HAS to be the most powerful eq available for any particular eq slot.
My thought is, why not let players pick ANY ( or just about any ) item as their 3x40 eq? Why limit it to the list that is currently available. One nice advantage of that would be that you could avoid the classo restricts on some eq that doesn’t ( seem ) to make sense. Also, it would potentially allow access to some low or mid quest (drachma) items as 3x40 picks. Not that it would change me having the Cuirass and Shield, but it would allow more customization. I can see the point regarding some of the more difficult forges, so perhaps disqualify them from the selection process.

Will our 3x40 eq that are already in use convert to the same properties as the new 3x40 eq?
Will Savvy’s old “Jeweled Gauntlets of the Magi” pick up the extra 0.1 ac that the new gauntlets have?

If this became the case, trip40 eq would become a low-level novelty much like holy eq. It’s not the difficulty of acquiring trip40 eq that justifies its superlative attributes; it’s the scarcity: no matter how hard you work at this game, your character gets exactly two pieces of trip40 eq. Plenty of forges are more intimidating than levelling to 3x40, sure. The difference is that you can ultimately finish as many of them as you wish.
I agree with Atwell. The 3x40 eq should precisely be the most powerful eq for a slot (for a particular function). Otherwise, we’ll just be vaulting that eq rather than wearing it, since most of us will have finished the forges we’re interested in anyway.

From Krom at the start of this thread:
Some items got dropped, if you happen to have one of these you can hang on to it or trade it in for free for another item, but you cannot get that item [back] again. Some items may be re-introduced or new items may be added, but this is the list that will go into affect within the next couple of days. Your existing items, if they get changed, will be changed automatically.
I seem to remember when healbonus / spellbonus was added that some imm told us that some items might give these bonuses beyond the cap. That certain quest eq might give +10 for example, but this +10 would not be included in the cap question.
I think this would be a better way to address the caps. Leave them as-is, but make one or a few special items that give bonuses beyond the cap. Those 3x40 legplates for example.
Charles
Any chance we can get the deadline pushed? I’ve been trying to find a imm to help me swap out my trip40 eq the last few days and no luck.
As of 9:30 PM CT - August 28th, the new stats on 3x40 eq are not active yet. I would hope the deadline would be extended as well.

Will newer stuff suited more for bards, monks, and/or necro be added? And what/how can we find out about the mystery item? Future quest? How can we
find out if it’s something we might request?
I’d like to second an extension on the deadline… I just got back from vacation and finding someone to swap eq is difficult. Only two days left! :(

Not many of us are as good as Atwell, or have the time to finish “as many of them as you wish”. (If you’re like me, you play almost as much without being nearly as good.)
My opinion (not that anyone cares): 3x40 eq should be better than most equipment, regular or forged, but aren’t hard forges designed to offer unique rewards? At the very least, it seems like a hard forge should offer you something interesting that you would not get with the 3x40 item, even if the forge still isn’t as good.
So: more whining about the held low +dam. I can’t help but compare scarab vs. Tome to thunderbolt vs Rogue’s Dagger. Tome is MUCH better than scarab, and offers a very prized damage point that previously wasn’t avaialble without the scarab… Rogue’s Dagger just has some cute extras that don’t even tempt me to use it, because I can get a different 3x40 item that gives me more benefit.
Throw in the fact that Zeus sneezes a thunderbolt every time you turn around, and Rogue’s Dagger becomes that much less attractive.
As a side note: I hope the poprate on scarab cps will go up, since +1 dam held low is no longer a prized reward for much hard work…
Other than that, I love the changes. :) Done whining.
Patrick
yeah what Van said!
change is good… but it still looks like the Cuirass is Elvis.
Sorry Oct.1 was the intended deadline. You have a month.
Again, for a trip40 item to viable, it must compete or be close to competing with the cuirass, at least at some point in your level progression, or else why pick it? This is elite eq that is your reward for grunting it out to get the levels.
If you have already forged the scarab, the tome probably is not the best choice.

p.s. is there going to be any more drachma eq added, or just the mostly thief eq that’s now there, which is great if you’re a Th prime, but not much help to anyone else..
hint: some extra ac or +weapon dam eq would be nice, considering the recent ac limit changes.. the only new thing for warriors (or bards or others wanting to up their ac) was the -0.7 relic held low, and that is it (there already was a -0.6 robe, that’s not new).. certainly not at least 4 slots like for thieves (ring clasps, wrists and more besides that). I’m sure the other classes would like to see more too, but I don’t know what as I play Wa primes.
The 2 main items warriors use from 3x40eq just happened to be the 2 items that weren’t buffed up too (the cuirass and the shield).
Still in the works, just lacked a bit of motivation since all the eq revamping is a lot of work and takes a long time to get things through, and seemingly very little reward or appreciation. That being said, I have not forgotten about it.
It’s definitely appreciated, cheers Krom. I’d award you some drachma if I could :)
So the bonus / 20th 3x40 item doesn’t actually exist yet?
Just a thanks to you Krom for the eq work.
Despite my personal bitching - thanks for the work Krom!!! Just because I get sad sometimes doesn’t mean I’m not as excited as a lubed up hamster overall. :)
