Sunday Quest

·1932 words·10 mins

I will be attempting to hold a quest on Sunday. The current plan is to begin at 7pm EDT on Sunday, April 15th. Kjartan has graciously offered to help out with the end game. The beginning portion I should be able to handle myself. The first clue will be posted onto the crier, probably this thread, and that will trigger the start of the quest. Some killing will be involved, but I am currently planning on it being more like a puzzle than a kill fest… at least to start. So bring your thinking caps, you’ll need them :)

Most clues can be found in the latest Harry Potter book. Pick up a copy today

nuh uh! it was colonel mustard and he used the candlestick.

“why can’t you just die?” –two face –> batman forever

Soooo 7pm EDT is 1hr head of Central Time right??? So it would 6:00 cst?

I’ll make it easy…. it’s starting NOW. See below.

Today I spoke with Bomanz of MAGIC. If you don’t already hate gnomes as much as I do, I’m sure you soon will.

From what I was able to understand, many of their contraptions suffered malfunctions as a result of something much more unexpected than their normal malfunctions. While most the contraptions were simply more chaotic, the painting machine was somewhat useful, apparently, until it wasn’t. (I’m assured this is normal.) It alternated between writing useful information and painting over what it had written. Among the things it wrote were numerous references to everyone on Thordfalen perishing to an unstoppable, unkillable evil.

It gets better.

After the painting machine had been somewhat repaired (ie. kicked repeatedly), it obtained several pieces of paper and scribbled madly before passing them to some steam powered mail delivery rocket that failed to malfunction as normal. Bomanz believes that whatever was sent was of vital importance to the survival of Bal Harbor. However, he has no idea where it went or how to find out. Apparently, the launch disrupted some huge metal scaffolding that the rocket was supporting. Bomanz repeatly assured me that the scaffolding will be fine and even mananged to repair whatever was ailing the poor painting machine but completely obliterated whatever contraption knows where the rocket is.

Isn’t that good news?

Now, you might wonder why I would be speaking with Bomanz to start with (I know I was). Strangely enough, some contraption nearly killed me as it came screaming out of the sky. It then further surprised me by shooting a piece of paper with gold writing at me. After verifying that I was still alive, and reading the bizarre contents of the note… I decided a gnome had to be behind this.

The note read:

How are you gentlemen?

All your Bal Harbor are belong.

This is beginning.

Fire-blackened Burial Chamber

. .The remains of a stone bier dominate the center of the chamber. The

bier is white, with powdery white ash surrounding it. The conflagration

which glazed the center of the bier into an off-white glass, surrounds

a grey area in the shape of a human body. In stark contrast, black soot

completely covers the ceiling and walls.

And so, there you have it. The only clue we have so far to save our fair land.

May the drachma be with you.

Aviendha found Qaan the demi-lich in luna’s temple. He had this note:

There is something written upon it:

An Unexcavated Cave

. .Fossilized honeycombs, bone fragments and primitive domestic implements

line the cave floor. Soft skins hang off protrusions on the rock walls,

and human dung piles have accumulated on the dirt floor. The combined

smell of the two is unbelievably nauseating. The walls taper around from

the north and south to the west, leaving a large opening to the east.

-

Who am I?

Kida found another not on Ur-Baal in tel makor:

There is something written upon it:

In the Pack Rat Supply Shop

. .A myriad of vials, bottles, furs, and other strange items line several

shelves along the walls. Household supplies such as flour, wheat, salt,

and miscellaneous furniture are stacked hap-hazard around the shop, with no

apparent consideration for customer convenience. The building’s interior

is airy, however the variety of spices and supplies that are stored here

still manage to become an overwhelming stimulus on the senses.

-

Who am I?

I found this note on ivec in sheol:

There is something written upon it:

Tomb of Chaos

. .Bones clean of any flesh lie strewn about, mostly away from a strange

crystalline object that is hovering in the center of the tomb. Peering

about, it becomes quite obvious that several large beings from another

world have come to gather here in times of certain chaos. Walking closer

to the crystalline object, it becomes apparent that it is some kind of a

secret passageway to a world only known to the Great Old Ones. In the

eastern corner, a broken skeletal ribcage hangs from the wall as some sort

of a trophy. The only apparent exit is that from the crystal.

-

Who am I?

Next note obviously loaded on cthulga:

There is something written upon it:

Kitchen

. .In the wall to the east is a huge enclosed smoker. This is where the

meats are smoked and dried so they can be taken into battle. Smoke escapes

from around the door of the smoker, letting out the scent of of the wild

meat being smoked now. The second half of the huge stove is in the wall to

the north. The kitchen is probably fifteen degrees warmer than the rest of

this mountain.

-

Who am I?

Aviendha found kender in dwarven mtn with a note:

There is something written upon it:

The End of a Limb

. .Underfoot, a foundation limb narrows quickly as it comes to an end.

High vertical branches that have grown straight upwards towards the clouds

are intertwined with kirdir vines. A highly traveled limb leads to the

north.

-

Who am I?

Next mob was Sipa in aaost (identified by rynquald), loaded note:

There is something written upon it:

The Desecrated Temple

. .There are several small pews thrown to one side of the room. A small

altar stands in the center of the room. The altar is gold and has many

wereravens carved into its body. Each of the ravens on the altar bleeds a

black ocher that runs onto the floor in a slow ooze. Just beyond the altar

sits a coffin made of polished wood. The coffin rests on a stand of jet

black onyx, and is stained with countless pints of blood. Hanging on the

wall is a large holy symbol with a flaming sword embedded in it.

-

Who am I?

Ivan obviously had next note:

There is something written upon it:

Lab of Vicar Mersette

. .This laboratory has a distinct sloppy feel to it. There are unstoppered,

unlabeled jars everywhere and piles of several colored dusts stand on the

tables. The piles of dust are on either small pieces of parchment or glass

dishes. Sheets of papyrus and parchment in several languages have been

dropped all around, sometimes on top of the colored dusts. It is a wonder

the owner of this place can find anything.

-

Who am I?

Lout in cholemry had next note, truth found him:

There is something written upon it:

Balcony

. .The south edge of this wooden balcony has been entirely swallowed by the

thicket growing up from below. A few insects and other critters walk back

and forth freely around the greenery. A dark stain in the northwest corner

is reminiscent of certain body fluids. From somewhere nearby comes the

sound of a large animal panting heavily.

-

Who am I?

Mob was obviously vicar, here’s his note:

In The Throne of Darkness

. .Skulls of all sizes are scattered all around this huge chamber and they

bring upon this deathly stench in the room. The eastern section of this

large chamber is adorned by a throne made of black marble. Strange murals

depicting gory scenes of a massacre are inscribed all around the marbled

walls of this room. A humanoid corpse is lying in front of the throne in a

pool of blood. An archway is slightly concealed by the huge pile of skulls

lying on the southern wall.

-

Who am I?

Bazilus found next note on Ei in crossroads:

There is something written upon it:

Cavern of Souls

. .Shadowed alcoves line the walls of this dim cavern. At its center, a

huge ruby pulses with dark light. Inside the alcoves, alabaster statues

of beautiful lords and ladies crumble to dust, their faces are twisted in

agony, and tiny alabaster tears slide down their pale cheeks. Sibilant

whispers disturb the air like the echoes of desperate screams, and the

ruby hums in concert with their pleas. A single ruby archway leads west.

-

Who am I?

Truth found next note on rhagar in kara’sa

There is something written upon it:

This is End. Die Now.

LOL nice

Kida noted that concatenating the first letters the name of each mob we had killed yielded the word “quicksilver”. We found a quicksilver golem in the BH construction site. Upon death, this golem divided into four quicksliver blobs:

A quicksilver golem is dead! R.I.P.

Total exp for kill is 108370441.

You receive 4408677 experience points as your share.

You gain 1410776 experience for leadership!

Your blood freezes as you hear a quicksilver golem’s death cry.

A quicksilver golem disintegrates into several quicksilver blobs!

A quicksilver blob quickly slithers away!

A quicksilver blob quickly slithers away!

A quicksilver blob quickly slithers away!

A quicksilver blob quickly slithers away!

The blobs were fairly hefty (190M exp) ethereal mobs, located in lycanthropia, tomb, drexel, and kara’sa. They used a few mass fire attacks on the group. They popped the following:

quicksilver ring

old leather boots

carved obsdiian key

sack bearing 17 bananas

ring is:

Object ‘ring quicksilver quest_high quest given_out’, Item type: ARMOR

Item is: GLOW MAGIC

Weight: 0, Value: 50000000, Worn in: TAKE FINGER

AC-apply is -0.0

Can affect you as:

Affects: REGEN_MANA by 3

Affects: MANA by 10

Only those who are at least supreme magic users, clerics, necromancers, or

bards may use this item.

Finally, we killed arivan in kara’sa for a drachma-steel giving 10 dr to each member of the group.

Thanks to Ender for a fun quest and to everyone who came along.

Thanks all for the help on my first quest :D

More to come hopefully… As I think up new and improved ways to kill you all for fun and profit.

Wow, that was really clever. Makes me want to start reading room descriptions. :)

Great quest :) I thought it was pretty amazing how you guys found the rooms so quickly one after another without help.

Thanks Ender, keep em’ coming!

Thanks for quest, it was really fun.

Sure it wasn’t hard enough so I do understand why there were only 1 piece of eq (though it is real cool ring). But is it possible to approve some spellbooks as a lowbie (newbie/tardie) quest prize? I’m sure most of ppl would be happy to get blizzard/firestorm spellbook or blacksmith’s manual or purlion aura manual or even levitating or waterlogged spellbooks as a quest prize.

Just my 2 cents.
