I never took a hit and I was never above my current maxhp of 1204.
thanx so much,
Alias
I haven’t used oaths much, but it looks like it still gave you hp, but you just started with low enough hp that it didn’t put you over max, of course i could be totally wrong about how it works :)
My understanding was that they were only temp hps. If you take a hit, they are the first ones used and so you wouldn’t notice when they went away. I’m not sure how long the duration is supposed to be though. By what you have posted, only a couple rounds. Van has been having complaints that they’re not even lasting that long I think.
hps decay in between 1 and 5 rounds. Generally 2 or 3.
I’ve pulled it out of many of my scripts as it just isn’t useful for the amount of trouble it causes.
If the hit points aren’t useful because they don’t last long enough, I can make them last longer. I had figured you would usually get hit and lose them in a couple of rounds anyway, so there was no need.
My complaint is why do they have to be temp if they dont put you over the max? if u want to make them fade in 3-4 rounds fine but the risk of death for 1 round of nothing seems kindof pointless. I think they are a neat idea and yes most of the time I lose them when I get hit but sometimes in large groups by the time I rescue the stabber and swear the mob is debuffed, so its kind of disheartening to see my hitpoints drop below my max when I never got touched.
And I really still dont know what protection does.
Thanx all

So that 130hp you lost after round 3 was just from the oath? or from warcry also?
How do you check to see your honor or whatever it is?
(I just got oath of victory yesterday)
thanks
Juggleblood is 200% correct - we should have some way of more specifically tracking our oath track record.
Related to this, there should be ways of getting lost honor back, whether by oath on big mobs, autoquests or, sigh, drachma store tokens. There should be bonuses for having unbesmirched honor.
There should be a bonus to being raised for having taken an oath and failed. Right now oath is most useful on mobs where you don’t need disengage, recall or defy pain. The gods should look kindly on people who put their (insert slang term for fundament here) on the line, even if they fail. Say longer until corpsing out, so that there is time for the group to kill the mob and still raise the tank, or a system shock bonus.
Hitpoints should not decay until you take some damage or the oath is fulfulled. More than once I’ve taken oath of victory, had the mob whiff a round, have the oath hitpoints decay immediately (one round) and then gotten slammed the next round. Etheral rakashas at -10 do this often enough to notice it.
Related to the above, the defy and oath help should say that defy and oath of victory are incompatible. Would be nice to find out some other way than being at 100hps against a mob and trying to use defy….
Oath of protection does reduce the amount of mob spatter - as a common 2.tank, it seems to do this well. Point should not take oath of protection if allowing some down spatter will help, and should if 2.tank is crunchy - say the stabber.
Would be nice if oath of protection could be made before combat and help on the rescue of say, the stabber or gripper.
Would also be nice if oath of protection meant autorescue and auto successful rescue of the person you have sworn to protect.
Right now oath of victory is most use when there is less honor - on mobs that it is almost a sure thing to kill. A few tweaks could change that so that people will use oath on mobs where there is more risk.
Well I haven’t messed with it yet, but I’m thinking if it gives 100+ temp hit points per mob its perfect for the stab blast i run on lyme where I’m tanking and stabbing. Cuz it’s always a kill or be killed scenario.
If I get killed tho, can my groupees still recall me after I’m dead? or does oath prevent that? I’d like to get a better idea of how it works b4 I experiment too much.
Also, um what is the syntax. The help file said “swear
Any stab you can swear after is a bad stab.
Oath of victory has to be made after battle starts, and the mob has to be better than quite a few wounds. So basically, it cannot be effectively used for stabbing unless you’re stabbing something that has no chance of dieing from the stab.
The biggest factor I’ve found that kills honor is death. I once followed a leader that happily killed me about 6 times in 30 minutes and it completely destroyed my honor. Strangely, I don’t follow them anymore…
Having a method of restoring honor would be nice though. If one exists already, it would be nice to know what it is.
swear victory,
yes u can be recalled when dead,
if its a good stab or a small mob u cant swear.
warcry hp seem to stay until the mob is dead, there have been mobs that never touched me so I stayed +30 over my max (solo) until after the kill
I dont have perfect honor so I only get 180 from oath,
my warcry hp were used earlier in the start of the fight.
oh and u can swear protection before the battle should u like-although I havent seen it do anything.

I dont understand why swearing an oath basically makes you the tank. Anytime I ever tried to use it, the mob starts whoopin me down, ignoring the tank. It made me think this skill is only for tanks on large mobs that cant possibly kill you. The detrimental effects of using it when your not the tank, and on mobs that could kill you undermine the overall skill.
Mike
yeah if your not tanking and you swear your gonna screw up the prot order cause the mob is gonna go after you like a red-headed step-child.
as it stands it basically a tank skill and not a good one at that if the hp dissapears if your not hit.
[quote:3n0u9hf1]cause the mob is gonna go after you like a red-headed step-child.[/quote:3n0u9hf1]
LOL :) never heard that before hehe
Oath of victory prevents any action which would take you out of combat. That means that once the mob engages you, it can’t move on, you can’t disengage, and someone else can’t rescue you.
Ergo, you are the tank.
I dont understand why swearing an oath basically makes you the tank.
Mike[/quote:2sj3ajm0]
er seems rather useless then
Thanks for clearing that up
I made the temp hp last a bit longer.
It seems to help. Has the level required for oath changed? Or am I just used to the rakashas being more buff?
I’m almost ready to bust out the all new class bard and out tank the warriors.
Have had a nice little break :)

All you can do right now, is think about the stars!
I was wondering when oath should be broken, if healo can heal tank back from -9? I mean it should be broken only if u die, or do i miss the point?
Mike better just put this one on the shelf with demonic aura… where it belongs.
