  1. Upon login, you will choose primary and secondary class. From there you will pick your classes by walking to that guild and gaining a level

  2. upon reaching level 8, you will be given a group of stats to choose from, atleast one of these sets will be good enough to continue your character with until you feel the need to reroll.

  3. group exp has been redone( players now get more exp per each group member up to 13)

** Old style was either solo or 2 or more people

  4. triangle tokens are redone to reach playable stats

  5. kill history( players will need to kill mobs in a variety of areas)

  6. Protect has been replaced with tactics( overhauled combat)

Maneuver:

See Also: TACTICS, POINT, GROUP

In a combat, a group can be organized into a front line and a back

line. This is generally a good idea, as weak types like mages and

necromancers can then cower in the back and not risk getting hit by

melee attacks. The maneuver command is used to control your position

in the group, front or back. You can “maneuver up” or “maneuver back”.

The group leader, out of combat, can move group members around

with “maneuver splork up” and “maneuver splork back”. Anybody can

see the current formation with the “group” command.

Anyone on point is automatically in the front line. The group leader

defaults to the front line, and everybody else defaults to the back,

but they can move around as they like.

The front line has to be at least a certain size, depending on

the size of the group. It must have 1 person plus 1 per 3 group

members (so a group of 1 - 2 needs 1 front line, a group of 3 - 5

needs 2, etc.) If the front line falls below this number, the group

is in serious danger of collapsing into a chaotic mess each round.

If you start seeing warnings that this is about to happen, you should

either get out of there, or step up to the front line, depending on how

loyal you feel to the other group members - nobody wins when the front

line collapses. Well, technically the mobs win.

Tactics:

See Also: MANEUVER, POINT

This skill represents your ability to work with teammates in close

combat. When one combatant (the “point”) tries to shield an

ally, both of them must succeed at a tactics skill check for each blow

aimed at the ally in order for the attack to be intercepted (in which

case the attack hits the tank instead). Shielding people in the

back row is automatically successful and does not require the tactics

skill. Note that if someone in the back row initiated the combat,

he won’t be shielded until he is rescued, as the enemy can easily move

around a crowd of standing people to get at his attacker.

It’s important for all of the front row to have the tactics skill

at the highest level they can.

  1. stats rolled to 18, reach 25 through eq and levels

  2. new areas

  3. all guilds in vk are now in the town

  4. Area bonuses have been completely overhauled

  5. prime spells and skills have been redone, please check online to make sure you like your player’s capabilities

  6. Ac entirely rewrote, any ac that you reach is now better than the previous, every point of ac now counts.

  7. all 8 classes are in play then an avatar class at 8x40

  8. mana, hps, etc gained on leveling 5-8 classes

  9. facebook and myspace apps

  10. logging milestones and accomplishments( rewarding players for reaching milestones)

  11. Avatar class is in play after 8x40

  12. Lyme will be open to everybody. We want our players capable of grouping together anywhere in our world.

  13. Areas have been tweaked, quests have been tweaked, eq has been moved…

There are really too many changes to list here.

Enjoy,

Splork

Whole new ball game huh. That’s one hell of a lot of work. Well done.

Holy Crap! Lotta work put in, this is very exciting.

Does each class still retain its prime bonus? Mirrors for mage, Aerial Sevant for cleric, Caps lowering as a class moves down the class order?

BTW thanks!

Some info to consider when choosing your classo.

Some things that were dependent on location in classo were stretched out across 8 classes. So for example having mage in fourth position should now get you about the same attunement value that having it in 2nd used to. Likewise with necro order lag.

Some skills/spells are now prime only. The major ones I can remember are:

frostbolt

restoration

excrutiating blow

second wind

call of the sidhe

wraithform

moon aura (druid prime)

presage

Basically classo is less important now than in the past, but each prime class is slightly more unique than before. My personal preference is to balance out my hit points and mana by choosing either:

non-caster prime/caster 2nd

or

caster prime/non-caster 2nd

Hopefully this helps you choose your top 2.

Peace,

Juggs

frostbolt is prime only? seriously? bah.

is parry still there?

so my old Wa/Ma might still be a good combo… go figure.

Oh, and for the record, calling frenzy a warrior skill was silly when it effected stab and some other class attacks, but not broadsword [i:2ekr19x5]or[/i:2ekr19x5] flail - the 2 warrior skills that it [i:2ekr19x5]should[/i:2ekr19x5] have effected more than anything imho. That one never made sense to me whatsoever.

Hmm but surely with grouping becoming a more important and rewarding part of the game (presumably), specializing with ca/ca or nc/nc would work better?

That’s just my theory anyway. Just wondering why a balance of hp/ma would be important.

I’ve become a fan of well balanced char. I played Rub (wa/ma/cl/th) same as Weasel and found it to be a lot more enjoyable than Marge (Cl/dr/ma/ne). I really missed having melee skills playing marge.

Also in the new combat system, you need more chars that can take a hit. Everyone in the front line is going to take hits. So being crunchy and unable to rush up to the front line in emergencies is kinda blah imho. Its nice to know you can run up and save the front line if the need arises.

-Weasel I don’t know how you know that frenzy doesn’t help broadside. I dunno how many imms could even answer that. I have no clue. Broadside was changed in our favor to work on all humanoids and has possibility of stunning the mob and possibility of critical hit. It’s kinda hard to complain about warrior skills anymore, specially with 2nd wind. Neway, I thought warrior rocked, and still does, but I already played it to 5x40, so time for something new. If they ever unlock it….

edit: btw the new command to move to the front row, manuever up, can be abbreviated “man up” which makes me chuckle.

The front row is about to collapse!

Medios – ‘one of you clerics in the back man up!’

Whoever coded frenzy and associated effects told me.. can’t remember which immort is was offhand.. Kjartan maybe?, but it’s on these forums somewhere as well (I posted about it back then obviously).

Heck it may not even exist now for all I know.

“man up”. lmao, classic.

I remember too, Weasel, it was posted that it didn’t affect those.

Someone post something… I’m getting bored. :)~

-Tox

something.

better now?

Do you have your perfect classo set now Brad?

No! I’m at a loss of what classo to play. How long do you think it’d take to level 8 chars each of a different prime up to 9x40? :)~

Uhg, no way!

I’m only playing one character this time around. It will be a cleric prime because I like to heal, clerics make the best leaders right next to bards. I’m going to do the cl dr thing so I can shapeshift to solo probably. The classes that follow are completely at a loss to me. I have no idea what’s gonna work in the new game or how they’ve redesigned things. I’d love to hear other people’s thoughts on this subject from what they’ve learned from the Beta version so far.

-Tox

I’m going to experiment with a mage prime because I’m a little curious about the changes. For one thing, every class has had its really important prime only spells/skills, and some get a whole bunch of them, but all mages get is frostbolt (aside from mirror and reflection, which were already there to begin with). Maybe they made frostbolt significantly stronger or something? I’ll find out. Most people on Beta weren’t very keen on playing mage primes anyway.

Clueless about the secondary as well - either druid or cleric. Also clueless about every other class that follows. That’s all just personal preference anyway, not basing it on any theory.

I agree brad I am going to work only 1 character as well, and again I want to say this looks very interesting, thanks Imms I’ll try not to be too big a pain in the back side

I’m only playing one character this time around.[/quote:emgpxipl]

:D :D :D

I mean - we have another 12 or 17 years ahead, which means…

I’m going to play ne then probably cl … a wa prime has got to win the race to 1x40 and will probably progress faster from there, but having played all classes (except monk … I kinda hate monks) in III and got av’s as wa ne and th primes I’ve found I enjoyed playing with pets far more than anything else. I’d rather pick something I think is going to be more fun than something that’s going to be more powerful or progress faster for a first char.

After that well quite a few of you will beat me to 2x40 so I’ll pump you for advice then :)

just my tuppence worth on classo choices.

I’m torn, I’m sure I’ll go wa prime, just not sure about second, likely either dr or cl although since cl primes are the only ones that get restoration, dr may be better for regen (assuming things havent changed too much). Then there’s also ne (which I’m assuming probably needed a lot of changes due to level requirements for pets). Ug.

Probably I’ll start Xander mo/wa while I consider rr.

ug. either way, I dont have the time I used to have and probably should only have one char, just not sure what route to go.

You can only pick one class on character creation now.

You’ll need to level in your secondary to be eligible to get stats. The next time you level in prime (level 8 or higher) you’ll get stats.

Thanks!

Only Cl prime get restoration? Really? Ok.. so that means even [i:yoo1ud5c]more[/i:yoo1ud5c] time spent in sleep regen for Warriors running solo?

Sure it will push grouping.. but if you can’t commit to long periods of time for grouping or constant attention, you’re going to be pretty bored sleeping all the time to regen..

Really this new setup sounds great for grouping, and encourages everyone to be there with the front line / back line setup, which is great (botters used to really annoy me), but solo sounds like it’s going to be significantly tougher.. then again, what would I know, I haven’t logged on since the pwipe.. still deciding if I will.. all those restrings I saved up, I was half way thru writing a new Grand Palace and had 350mil in the bank. Almost had perfect stats and wanted to work on buying weapon damage.. doh.

can we finally all see inventory inherently or do we still have to wait till we get bard, druid or thief class (with glance skill) to be able to see inventory?

i don’t understand why we can’t all inherently see it when forge/trade mobs want the items IN YOUR INVENTORY.

i also am hoping that heal no longer cures blindness, that when a char -is- blind that they are able to HEAL THEMSELVES instead of seeing that completely inappropriate message:

c ‘heal’

Sorry, no one around answers to that name (or whatever the words were)

pleasepleaseplease quit insulting our intelligence. quit telling us that we became amnesiac just because we are blinded!

“Sorry, Venkman, I’m terrified beyond the capacity for rational thought.” -dr. egon spengler –> ghostbusters

I do not know for sure, but since spells, now not targeted go directly to the caster, I think you can heal self while blind.

cast ‘cure minor’ (heal caster)

cast ‘cure minor’ firebrand (heals firebrand)

We will have to wait and see.

Madmax

I think the new start has gone pretty well so far. I enjoyed playing yesterday… I also liked the feeling of “being all in it together” that the wipe created. I’m surprised how well the majority have taken there old characters being wiped. I’m kind of ok with it as well, although I doubt I will ever go through the experience of getting my old eq back, and will somewhat be a binge/casual player.

I think the new grouping thing is pretty cool. The first 10 levels at least as a prime caster sucked badly with hitroll, but I think that’s all behind me now. Group coins isn’t very good, but I’ve killed a few hunting tigers in my spare time.

Classo is a hard one to figure. I’m taking a new approach from Apprentice who was a pure mana bag. I’m trying to build a great “damage reduction/regen” class. I’ll have my aegis, shield of thorns, fludity stacking with my high monk dam reduction, along with the very nice mana regen. I’ll also have eventually 6 unarmed attacks after a fairly good deathgrip, not to mention swordwraiths as buffers. (Although you could argue we all have this now to various degrees)

The Jury is going to be out on shapeshifting. At the moment shifting drake has been good. The 3 attacks and better hit roll allow me to actually solo some vk mobs that I can’t do unshifted. We will be stuck with dragon form from 3x40 till 8x40/8. Unshifted at < 3x40 I expect to be better than my dragon form. I guess I expect to find that shifting is almost a complete waste of time between 3x40~8x40/32. Maybe druid (something) can be looked at to get through this period, as I doubt shifting will be viable at all for that entire year of getting to avatar… that’s to say I’ll be playing my druid as a monk.

4x40 ~ 8x40 is going to be very interesting. Spending billions of xp on my useless thief class, is going to be hard. Large Groups will be good, if you live in America or can catch the time window when they play. It would be nice is lyme cap is removed, and chopping is viable.

So enjoying it at the moment, pondering life after 4x40 though.

if anyone wants to know, exp 5th 160k, 6th 240k, 7th 480k, 8th 640k

and for level 2 respectively for 5-8 is: 320k, 480k, 960k, and 1.28 mil

[code:1lmud0hm]You charge and bash into a hunched ghoul.

A hunched ghoul is knocked off his feet!

A hunched ghoul panics, and attempts to flee.

A hunched ghoul leaves south.

[/code:1lmud0hm]

seems bash not helps to catch mob..

mabbe it was in solth3 too, no clue

For those who still don’t know, here’s a summary of how rerolls work now.

Tri tokens get you stats very similar to the 5 sets of stats you get when you hit lvl 8. The amount of stat points you can have caps at 75, and there’s a minimum as well (70, was it?)

Hexes and octs have a wider range, but doesn’t guarantee you’ll get a better stat than rolling with a tri. In other words, you can choose to live with playable stats with the tris, or if you wanna risk it for godlike stats, you may go back to reroll hell for a while with hexes and octs.

Single sided die still does the same - minimum 10 of every stat.

so I guess its save up hex / octs .. roll for keepers .. but have a backup tri in case of a disasterous series of rolls.

Its not a lack of reroll hell … just a different version …

It’s not a total different game as well… just a different version of great old one.

:)
