Sloth Playerbase In Demise?

·2441 words·12 mins

Is it just me, or are there half as much players level 20 and under these days than there was logged on, say 2 years ago?

I don’t even see many DoW (1 or 2) and Fire&Ice (none at all) clan members these days either?!?

Do you think Epics, has killed xp groups as people tend to log on there higher level players?

Just interested to know your thoughts. Discuss…

Loosing so much ground on TMC hasn’t been good for the newbie supply.

Does it really matter if people that have been here for years are playing newbs or tards? In the end we constantly need new players to replace people that retire, just like any other game.

Specifically about the epics, they seem to have actually increased online numbers. A lot of the people who run in the honor groups weren’t playing newbs before epic mobs, they just weren’t playing at all (I think, based on what i know of people’s alts).

True new players are more work than Avatars playing new characters.

Avatar New Players…

*Mostly get there own spellbooks, unless shyla is offering :p

*Have high level eq for when there new characters make level

*Know how to play the game… ask less questions

I feel that even the few level 20 players we have on at the moment don’t appear to be new players… The newbie channel is real quite these days.

So I guess I’m saying… where is the new blood these days? Am I right in thinking things have really dropped off?

Like Rynq said, we’re ranked 9 on TMC. If you want to see fresh players, rally the vote.

Yup - epics have appeared to increase grouping and online players imho, but mostly higher level. Voting us up on TMC worked previously..

I think you are imagining the playerbase decline. I took a 6 month break from the game and I came back and now see lots of newer motivated chars hovering right around 3x40.

Epics have unquestioningly increased interest and enthusiasm for the game. We just have to remember to continue to go out of our way to make the game fun for newcomers(n00bs).

  1. Epics are for skilled players - I think real newbies don’t join very often for honor hunting due to low exp.

  2. So with adding honor system sloth became more difficult for real newbies. It harder to start leading because you usually want at leat 1 good tank (at least tard tank with -11ac) for exp group, even for BH exp group. But all tard tanks are engaged in honor hunting yet. I haven’t seen non-lyme eq groups last month or so.

  3. In other hand that make game more interesting because newbie can run exp/eq with lowbie tank but should pay attention and not just sponge behind huge tard’s arse.

  4. I personaly play my newbie necro most of the time and switch to my tard for honor and drachma or to my vociferous bard for good desert group. I enjoy playing newbie very much.

  5. I don’t care about playerbase.

Exactly.

For me it breaks down like this. For quite some time my clan members have been leaving to bigger and better games. This leaves me with little, if any, support for small tasks. I try to be fair and honest about my groups and can’t remember glocking drachma/honor/quest groups. I have even led groups and not called any mobs, just to help others(not my clannies either). With rising honor caps for each consecutive increase the easier mobs (Tasha, Vouhx, etc) are being locked down by small elite groups. On a 4k honor mob, if you cap at 2k you can just be an ass and 2 run it 2 man. Of course anyone wanting to join with be refused due to cycling rules. I for one refuse to help people gain honor so that they can later turn their back on me. I was working very hard leading honor mobs until I found out that it is not about honor at all. It is about greed. There is nothing honorable in the least about asking for my help when you need, then excluding me when not needed. I would rather never play sloth ever again than to be turned down for quest/honor groups. I get on this website and sometimes check the gwho. I am glad that a few people are still leading in my absence. I checked out WoW and decided its not for me but I still don’t know if I am ready for more bots, afkrs and @ssholes.

Fight the good fight Mikey!!!

That’s one thing I have noticed in the (very) few honor groups I have been involved in… When it’s doesn’t go right hitting the mob, there is quite a lot of small resentments coming out against other players. Sometimes I get the impression people are grouping with people, they would not want to group with if they had a choice. It’s kind of like epics are holding them together… but at any point some one is ready to storm off in a hissy fit.

There is no doubt epics have brought back more tards… but in a few cases I sense those that it brought back, seem to be getting frustrated by the same reasons why they probably left in the first place?

I ’d like to see more new players… voting is good… but we have fewer people to do it! Most times when I play at the moment there is less than 7 people on. Generally 5 people in an epic group, 1 or 2 on vk and myself.

pretty much deadon. groups suck, but are neccessary for some mobs. how is this a bad thing?

Full nonsense to surrender because of I have locked group, have stumbled on a stone and have receded in a shadow? I don’t believe it! Nonsense… I shall not be justified, this my right to close or not groups…

P.S. Shit happens…

Bazlus the Crazy Python

It’s not nonsense Baz. It’s horseshit that you would lock Mike out.

The reason Sloth doesn’t have as many players as it once did is

simple. They brought in faster rats. Text games simply cannot

compete with something as immersive as WoW. For me, Sloth

became boring. A lot of my clanmates left, Sloth continued to

be a text game and I just got tired of running the same old shit

over and over. There have been a lot of great additions to the

game over the last two years, but we’re talking about a 13-year

addiction here. I need better drugs, bigger doses simply don’t

do it for me anymore.

You can find me and the DoW on the Dragonmaw PVP server on WoW.

I’m ingame as Karkus usually if you want to hit me up.

P.S. - I love PVP.

I think Mike does make a fair point here. In the future when more people have higher rank and their caps rise, theres going to be a growing desire to reduce the number of groupmembers in an epic group.

This is really the same problem the mud ran into when there were weekly forges. There was a scarce resource on the mud and players started competing for it.

I don’t see it as too much of a problem now, but I see some potential for future conflict.

At us at all the point of view, was the reason why the group has been closed. For Mike it one, for me another. The improper moment for Mike. Consider that I greedy and I think only of myself. +) At all the strangenesses. I do not love when climb without demand. And if mob already on ph/awful condition that what for still someone… Yes I greedy…

P.S. And i told he can join after kill, but i’am gonna leave… :) So up to you.

Bazilus the Crazy Python

Oh, Aaron, you guys are playing WoW? :) What are your chars? Yes, I’m lazy to check US armory.

Hey Eudaemon!

How are you!?

I have a 35 troll hunter who is BM spec, a 30 rogue, an 18 druid, Krodar, who is the GM. roll a newb on dragonmaw kroka, nabster did :)

Frankly, I’m disappointed with Weasel, it’s around about this time he posts a lol cat…. Where the heck is it?!?!

I’m with juggleblood on this, epics are making a few people a bit tense, but then again with some people, if it’s not epics… it’s something else… I’m for epics! But it’s changed how people play the game, maybe a bit too much? Or maybe it’s just new… needs time to settle down or something… shrug

Ok, over to weasel, hit us with it….

Oh so now the mob was awful?

Heh, no comment. I am pretty sure there was other people there at the time and they know the condition of the mob. Go ahead and try to defend yourself. I never mentioned any names.

A sloth character worth $500?!?!?!

Any chance of doing, a score, a prac, balance, and an eq and pasting the results in this thread. I am not interested in buying, but I am interested in finding out what the heck is so good about cocaine!

“Cocaine is a hell of a drug” 8)

Cocaine is God’s way of saying you’re making too much money. (Robin Williams)

I would never do crack… I would never do a drug named after a part of my own ass, okay? (Denis Leary)

I am not confused about which cocaine I meant… but at $500… maybe 13 is… :)

I’d roll a noob, Aa, but you guys are playing an American version of WoW, while mine is European. Yeah yeah, it sucks.

Free server?

what language does euro WoW use

So yeah, the demise of the sloth player base… Interesting…

Some disagreed with me… but now we have people offering to sell characters in this thread… and talk of WoW, heh…

I guess some things answer themselves in time.

i wasnt really offering to sell, but 500 bucks…damn

what language does euro WoW use[/quote:3ggbyjbi]

It uses european language of cause :)

which would be italian german russian french spanish and english?

how does that work?

screwy english i suppose

it works fine :P

No, it’s not a free server. It’s one of Blizzard European servers. They use English by default, but there are some German, French and Spanish servers. Russian ones are going to be introduced soon.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, what Gaming character is worth $.01? It’s a game. Part of the fun of a game, IMHO, is starting where everybody else did. Otherwise, you can’t truly compare your achievments against anything except the green stuff you paid for the character.

Oh, and if you remember me, you definitely have too much time on your hands and probably have at least one original character that you made from level 1.
