I read that ealier, what is it with the rich killing themselves because they have too much money and just need some sleep, obviously money didnt buy them happiness, course if they would just oh i dunno read the directions on their pills maybe they would not be dying all over the place, guess its gods way of saying your acting sucked. you might look good on a horse in tight jeans or kissing another man, but take these pills do us all a favor! good bye cruel world…
I’m not a fan of Heath Ledger, for various reasons, most of those have nothing to do with his films, but yes commiserations to Heaths family and his loved ones.
It’s front page news here in Australia… I suspect we will be hearing about it daily for the next couple of weeks, from practically every media source.
I thought he was a pretty decent actor. I’m not really down with the gay shit
but BB Mtn was a poignant movie. The one where he was Sir William Fletcher
was decent too.
okay so he was not really that bad, but what is up with these celebs today! cant sleep down a bottle of pills tht will surely make you feel better, oh he is getting lots of rest now! wasn’t he just in a couple movies.. maybe there was something else going on.,.
I liked the “knights tale” and I’m looking forward to Batman. News reports talk about how he was really into his daughter, so suicide seems like an odd way out.
‘Course they also say he was having a really tough time dealing with the character of the Joker and the darkness surrounding the character.
Who can say for sure?
‘Course they also say he was having a really tough time dealing with the character of the Joker and the darkness surrounding the character.[/quote:2uekjcpe]
sad is sad… the spoiler pics of him as the Joker look pretty kickass, very well marked to classics like “The Killing Joke”. Then again, most likely the only reason Jack Nicholson didnt get bothered is because he was already insane….
Good actors will be missed…
Bad actors keep making trash, ie “Beastmaster”

You don’t worry about those kind of people Alberich, they will get there own. They often end up living there whole lives in this defensive vacuum of justification, to try and maintain this self imposed level of righteousness which only further negates most of the stuff in there life that they preach!
His death, has brought up a few interesting things. I’ve noticed on the radio, every 30mins when they talk about it they say “Australian Actor Heath Ledger.” It stuck me as odd, because everyone in Australia already knows he’s Australian… why the heck are they stating the obvious? Insecurity alert. For some stupid reason Australia always has something to prove with the US. It seems like they care more about the fact that he’s Australian than the fact that he’s now dead.
It’s kind of ironic how these things have happened of late… I remember when Princess Diana died Mother Teresa died around the same time. 1000’s turned up to Diana’s funeral… but millions turned up to Mother Teresa’s.
Recently Sir Edmund Hillary died, he spent his life doing charitable works in Nepal with the poor and the suppressed… and then Heath Ledger dies in what looks to be a drug related death. Millions may have heard about Heath Ledgers death, but many more, actually feel like they owe something to Sir Edmund Hillary.
It puts a few things in perspective.
Some die living for themselves and we remember it as tragic… some die doing things for others and we remember them as heroes.
Those Westboro baptist motherfuckers seriously need to get the bash. If the funeral
is here in NYC and there’s a bunch of Aussies there, they wont hesitate to beat the snot
out of those evil ‘baptists’. In fact if it’s in NYC, I might go along to pay my respects, and
then pay my disrespects to the unholy evil cult that call themselves Westboro baptists.
..although judging by the wording on that notice, and the fact it is hosted at an image-hosting
site and not the westboro closet homo baptist site, I think it’s a load of bollox.
update: ..oh ok, it IS true, these freaks really are planning on picketing Heath Ledger’s funeral.
It’s announced on their site [url:2ic0ilz7]http://www.godhatesfags.com/[/url:2ic0ilz7], although hard to get a
connect - probably undergoing a DOS attack.. lol, hate to be on a shared server with those assfuckers.
Hmm weren’t these clowns recently successfully sued for this crap? Would’ve thought that
meant they weren’t allowed to continue disturbing the peace this way, but clearly they still are.
If the law wont do anything, maybe the people will.
you guys need to learn how to use the carriage return key
It’s because of that big long link at the start of the thread, but I edited my post just for you.

Jezer, I had a beef about that issue in the news when Di got all the press and Mother Teresa seemed to be nothing more than a blip on the spin machine. I’m seeing the same thing with Sir Edmund Hillary, lots of American glitz and glam for Ledger and not a single follow up story about Hillary. It’s damn hard to find good news.
Hey did you all see what caused his death?
He was informed that he was wanted to re-star in Brokeback Mountain 2!
Brokeback Mountain 2: Broke Harder?
It seems like none of the tests show far indicate purposeful drug abuse. It’s worth it to remember sometimes that people die from accidental deaths, and it may not be suicide at all.
A week or so ago an older lady in Michigan City died in her sleep, froze to death. The thermostat was turned all the way down, but the utilities were all connected, the pilot light was on. Police said the toilet water was frozen solid, and the windows were iced on the inside. Just an accidental death, no indications that she intended to kill herself.
Given the way utility companies are fleecing the public, those types of deaths are going to happen more often. The woman most likely couldnt afford the heating bill on social security income.
In Baltimore/Maryland electricity rates by June 2008 will have gone up 75.5% in the last 2 years. 70% hike last year, 5.5% this coming June. I set my thermostat to 50 degrees, and use energy efficent everything throught my 1200 sq/ft interior townhome. Sealed windows, you name it ive done it. My winter bills are still $300-400 a month minimum.
Its really sad, that elderly americans who have worked all their lives are rewarded by freezing to death in their own homes, so fat wealthy energy companies can maximize profits.
Exxon is about to post record profits once again…………………………..

You should have seen what it was like over here when Sir Edmund Hillary died, it was on the news (not to mention the tributes) every day between the day he died and the day of his state funeral.
Of course “over here” is close enough that I saw his body lying in state and watched the funeral procession, so I guess we’re biased.
I’ll start by saying I know nothing of the guy and very little of the circumstances of his death, only what I heard on the news, but I did find it very telling that on the day it was announced the number one search on google was ‘heath ledger’ shows many people knew of him felt connected to him in some way and cared about his death …. oh and the number two search on google was for ‘keith ledger’ …

I’m not sure what your point was but on a point of information about when Diana died. In this country millions lined the streets and the country came to a standstill, the funeral was the most watched event and the death the most reported news item of the decade far outstipping the death of anyone else including Mother Teresa by a long way. 10 years on and making even a tasteful joke about it (if there is such a thing) can ruin a comedians career, saying that you think Diana was less than perfect can be social suicide and the enquiry into her death still makes top billing on the news.
Now I’m not sure what my point is, perhaps its that we care more about how beautiful people are than how good they are … or perhaps that media hype can snowball and sometimes it sticks
Point taken Ryn, I live where Heath Ledger was born and went to school :)

I made a mistake blurring my point talking about the sizes of funerals… but I was basically saying, the media seem to pay more attention to “tragic” deaths then they do true heroes who rose from nothing, died with nothing but lived a life helping others. At least Widow got it! :)
[quote:33hs8ups]
HEATH Ledger was reportedly told to seek professional help for his personal problems while filming The Dark Knight.
The late Australian actor - who tragically died from an accidental prescription drugs overdose in January - was reportedly warned he had become too obsessed with his portrayal of iconic Batman villain The Joker in the upcoming blockbuster.
A source told FOX News: “Heath refused to talk to anyone out of character.
“If you tried to communicate with him normally instead of The Joker, he would just ignore you.
“He would often come to the set to hang out even on his days off, freaking everyone out. Towards the end of filming, he was warned by people that he had gone too far, but it was almost like he couldn’t connect with those who cared for him anymore.”
Ledger reportedly locked himself in an apartment for an entire month before playing The Joker, who he described as a “psychotic, mass-murdering clown”.
Ledger also admitted he had such trouble sleeping while shooting the film he resorted to taking the prescription drug Ambien.
Sources on the set of The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus - the movie Ledger was filming when he died - also claimed the actor could not “snap out” of character and seemed to have “lost sense” of who he was.[/quote:33hs8ups]
If you seek evil, it will eventually overcome you…
Nah, that sounds like a symptom rather than a cause.
See, Heath never came across to me as a method actor. You don’t see James Woods goin’ all psycho anytime he has a bad guy role. Then again, he didn’t have to play the Joker.
Well, look at Jack Nicholson. He never went all psycho and he’s played all kind of cookie characters. Wasn’t a big fan of Ledger and don’t care to comment, nor am I competent, on his life and ‘habit’s. Sucks that it happened . On a previous post about size of funerals etc etc, that also doesn’t impress me. Most people only show up to put on airs and try to steal of the spotlight for their own petty lives. Not intentionally comparing apples and oranges, but Mother Theresa and Diana? Are you kidding me?Don’t know alot about Mother Theresa. I know she self-sacrificed alot to help others even when, allegedly, she had doubts. What did Diana do? Marry a prince. yawn
What you seek in life, you are bound to find… and where you choose to go will end up defining you.
Take Autolycos for example… he investigates the paranormal… and as a result of his actions, he finds it from time to time… As a result of his investigations, I bet it is defining who he is, and what he believes.
Take for example the person who doesn’t believe in the paranormal… he will never find it, because he does not believe or choose to look.
It’s no different for anyone… And I guess what I am suggesting about Heath… the guy was straight and he plays a gay cowboy, the guy plays the joker and now he can’t sleep, he suddenly withdraws into himself and has trouble relating to others, it seems to me, he lost who he really was, playing out the lives of others. Maybe he made a choice to go… too deep.
Tinct may be right, it could just be a symptom of something deeper… but widow is also right, he didn’t have to take the role…
Life is pretty much all about choice… you start life neutral… what ever draws you in, defines who you are…
Morality is like a magnetic force, and which ever side your on, draws you slowly deeper, unless you choose to pull against it.
Take for example TV Documentaries about native shaman’s out in the jungles of PNG or something like that… One thing that always sticks out to me is the shamans are like “degenerating” mutilating themselves etc etc, and then the documentary crosses over to a picture of some kids, and they still have light in there eyes, and they smile and look happy. It’s at that point you realise the shaman has actually “degenerated” from where he was at as a child… he sort something, and it pulled him in, and it’s about ready to take him over…
There are many lights in this world, all seeking to draw us in like insects. Some are artifical based on there own truth, and when you get close they zap you, like bug zappers. However, no light outshines the son.
Umm…step away from the keyboard and breathe…slowly
lay off the bong for a while Jezer..
Well, look at Jack Nicholson. He never went all psycho and he’s played all kind of cookie characters. [/quote:2d8tjn0k]

I think there’s something in a personality that results in a weakness to addictive behavior. Call it a penalty to saves vs addiction, whatever.
I really think that those people who become addicted to drugs, video games, role-playing games, etc have something in common. Of course I don’t have any psych degree, so this is just a guess.
I’m addicted to my imagination. It’s Fred Roger’s fault!
I post a lot here, while I’m at work… cause my job is wearing me down, and I need to escape… 7 years doing the same thing now… I need a sea change. When I get home, I play sloth… to forget I have work again in 15hrs.
Call it an addiction to cover up unhappiness…
I wasn’t on pot when I wrote my last post, it was more the fact that, it was a distraction from work… and if you break it down and think about it at a deeper level, I think it’s true… Whatever you seek, whatever you let inside of you, you end up becoming… somethings are fake and hurt, others are good.

Right, because CNN and Pravda cite their sources with the same rigor as wikipedia.
This sort of argument to attack wikipedia is just plain dumb.
The wiki article for Darwin lists some 200 citations and references for their information. If you don’t believe the content on wikipedia, you could always refer to those sources for more information.
Some people will always try to interpret facts to support their own beliefs. I guess I won’t point out specific groups, because everyone does this to some extent.
As much as I may regret this later…
Wiki, is just plain dodgey… You don’t have to look far… On the discussion page, one click away… someone is asking why the Charles Darwin entry is biased? See for yourself…
My bet is one day it’s edited by stubborn atheist evolutionists, and the next day self righteous creationists.
There has been a war going between evolutionists and creationists ever since Darwin came up with his ideas. It’s all about whose right and whose wrong… so in another words… it’s all about how good THEY are… no one really gives a stuff about Darwin. The whole argument is about really about arrogance and pride, and both sides seem to go to new levels in it everyday. Hardened Hearts, Blinded eyes the lot of them.
(Evolutonist) The white bucket is pink! (Creationist) No the white bucket is blue! Rar, Rar, Rar…
People will believe what they want to believe… and just because you believe it doesn’t mean that it is the truth! That goes for everything!
This is why I believe that there must be truth outside of mankind, because mankind obviously has no clue, if it can’t even believe the same stupid thing!
I’m pretty sure the argument is more about a rather important point in understanding the history of our planet(and species).
Without entering into the debate of the ages, belief isn’t really a factor. No one should “believe” in evolution, it’s a theory, either you think the evidence sufficiently supports the theory, or you don’t. Belief implies some kind of loyalty to the theory, and I’m sure no one needs to be told how that can end up.
Obviously belief is a major factor on the creationism side of the fence, and therein lies the crux of the problem. Belief verses evidence is an impossible battle, evidence can not sway those who believe something the evidence contradicts, and the beliefs of others will not sway those who weigh the evidence.
Just for the record, I’m not an atheist, and I don’t believe in creationism, so everyone can take all that however they want. Just my two cents :)
Top post Jo
yes, yes, I know it [i:1t93wv9r]looks[/i:1t93wv9r] like a one dollar note, and the serial number on it indeed is that of a registered US Treasury one dollar note, and the denomination states one dollar, and it has a picture of George Washington on it, and it even says “in God we trust” right above the word “one”, however I [i:1t93wv9r]believe[/i:1t93wv9r] and trust and therefore [i:1t93wv9r]know[/i:1t93wv9r] that it is in fact a one million dollar note, and insist you accept it as payment for your house, your car, your sister, and what’s left in that bag of chips you’re eating. Not that I have any empirical evidence whatsoever.
kthx.
Not sure what weasel just said… translation?
I try and separate the words “truth” and “fact/belief.” I think there needs to be a separation, the dictionary may not back my thoughts, as truth has a bunch of different meanings which confuses everything…
*Truth to me, is something beyond the natural. (It’s spiritual, not locked by time and matter, always existed and never changes) Ether
*Fact/beliefs are something that exist in the natural realm… often debated by man whether they are true or false.
Money exists, it’s value is agreed by man. I would stop short of calling it’s value “the truth,” but rather refer to it as being a fact or a belief. (It’s only by common agreement money is worth anything…)
Truth to me, is a word I try to reserve for spiritual things beyond time, space and matter. Sometimes the English language is too generic…
[quote:1wzrs11q]Not sure what weasel just said… translation? [/quote:1wzrs11q]
Its basically that you’re engaging in nonsense solipsism that while very fun for Philosophy 101, doesn’t exactly give you useful predictive models that explain things.
Jezer, I’m being generous when I’m telling you you just aren’t equipped to have this debate. You are engaging in epistimilogical wankery rather than arguing any points. In terms of actual evidence, there simply isn’t anything convincing for any creationist model. The best you can come up with is some superfluous intelligent design agent that would do everything that evolution does except its ‘intelligent.’
Now if you actually have objections to the theory of evolution, why it doesn’t satisfy as a model, we might actually have something to discuss. But you don’t. Further if you have a more satisfactory model for explaining origin of species that accounts for the fossil evidence, we certainly have something to discuss. But again, you dont.
Spiritualism is all fine and well for you to dwell on, but its useless for creating models. Whats the origin of the Empire State building? Now according to all the evidence that we have, photographs, construction debris, and very old workers who claimed to helped construct it, I’d say it was an engineered artifact of human civilization. Now I’m going to create some alternative creationist model that basically declares ‘God Made It’ in 1950, right when he made the rest of the universe complete with an illusionary history. Who’s to say I’m wrong? You weren’t there, and even if you think you were these are just illusionary memories made by ‘God’
This solipsist excursion is a fun way of imagining nothing really exists, but its a bloody awful way to actually operate.
[quote:1wzrs11q]My bet is one day it’s edited by stubborn atheist evolutionists, and the next day self righteous creationists. [/quote:1wzrs11q]
If you actually read the thread you posted you’d realize it was brought up by someone wholly ignorant of what scientific theory actually is.
Creationists are at best ignorant, and at worst very smart about making sure they don’t think too hard about some things.
Tell you what, for fun, since you seem to enjoy the whole sky daddy concept: Supposing God exists, either God is an asshole, an idiot, or a wimp.
Not sure what weasel just said… translation?[/quote:2b10uruo]

..or was this whole thread a figment of my imagination? Perhaps it was a figment of [i:2b10uruo]your[/i:2b10uruo] imagination, and I am only a part of that imagination, and therefore would cease to exist beyond your perception of reality should you cease to stop imagining me.. and does this, therefore, make you the omnipotent Creator, and my own perceived conscious a complete myth, supported only by a few synapses in your brain? Do you even have a brain? Perhaps you are actually a bowl of petunias?

I’ll end this creation versus evolution debate right now:
Kjartan and his pals created SlothMud. After that it has evolved.
So you are both right. That is all.
:D
The Gods have spoken.
I’d say if you’re interested in these things, you might enjoy some philosophy classes / books. They get into these questions in detail, what is knowledge, how do we prove things, etc. Truth as a word in general use can mean a lot of things sure, but in certain discussions you can pretty narrowly define what you mean by the word so other people do understand. At least the basic philosophy classes might be interesting.
Creationism is pretty scary. If you haven’t seen it, Frontline discussed creationism and the legal debates that are ongoing in primary education. It’s pretty clear that some people follow and believe in creationism just because they are ‘followers’ and they aren’t interested in any reason. The more scary aspect is those people who invented creationism, publicize it, and publish the textbooks. To them, it’s a calculated way to introduce their religious beliefs into the public school system.
Of course I’m sharing some of my personal bias here, so I’ll just wrap up this comment. :)
Is it really that scary tho? Seems like the smart kids eventually see thru the masquerade anyway. And the dumb ones, well…. If we could only figure out a way to keep them from voting…. hold elections during the Indy 500 maybe?
What’s scary is that you people are still beating a dead Heath, horse I mean.
:o
I like what Zukt says but I think it is wholly ignorant to dismiss other dimensions and or parallel universes. We cannot comprehend more than 4 dimensions, what if our sun is an electron for another world. It seems egotistical to think we are the most powerful beings in the realm. If life can so easily self-form then there should be plenty of other worlds with much more time to cook.
To argue that all matter came into existence with the big bang is along the same lines are arguing about God. If matter and energy are interchangeable and matter cannot be created nor destroyed then the amount of energy/matter in this universe has to remain constant. If God cannot exist because of some scientific method then where did this matter/energy come from. It always existed? That sounds like what they say about God. So either
God always existed and created life.
Matter/energy always existed and created life.
Wow striking differences!!!
Where is the hatred coming from. If scientists quit sticking their noses up every time an ignorant citizen posed a question then maybe they could gain some ground. But as long as “educated” people talk down to everyone then I say stay bitter and stick to your guns and religion.
