So, running on the flavor of ‘Post a Random Picture’ and ‘Post a Random Video’, I thought I’d kick off a new thread devoted to those sites we’ve come across that impress, humor, scare, etc.
I thought about this when a buddy of mine pointed out a really great website http://www.stumbleupon.com, it loads a randomizer into your search browser and loads up pages according to preferences you set. I’ve found some fantastic sites this way.
I figure the best way to do this is to include a link to the site (use the URL button) but to also include a brief description of why you’re including the link in the thread and why you thought it was worth posting.
Why Can’t I Own a Canadian?
This was really funny to me and the clip from West Wing is just icing on the cake. If you listen to Dr. Laura, you’ve probably got something invested in this link.

omg, that is a great site!
[url:1u0d9gym]http://www.digitalblasphemy.com[/url:1u0d9gym]
I think half of us visit this site on a regular basis. This link is for the other half.
The Order of the Stick - Even though we all wait for ’the meat shield’ to get raised, there are still the archives to go through. I’ve found Erfworld entertaining, but not loaded frequently enough.
[url:1jib7m6l]http://www.giantitp.com/index.html[/url:1jib7m6l]
There was another site that had you running a helicopter through a maze but I prefer this site for the music, theme and updated graphics. It’s not as addictive as Slothmud (No stabbity or followers to order around), but I’m sure an extra game in your arsenal is never a bad thing.
Privet!

Someone please tell me what they are saying!
Oh those russians….
I posted a game before, but this site offers some really decent things to eat up any time you’re NOT on Sloth or trolling its boards.

Fun and challenging, but I eventually learned the course and got my score -12 under par.

ok so this isn’t exactly random, but 3 cool new things folks might find useful
[url:15xdjy9k]http://goosh.org[/url:15xdjy9k] - shell-like interface to google (and you can use it to replace your searchbar in firefox!). It’s fun to play with and is already greatly speeding up some of my searches for things.

realtime NASDAQ securities in google finance, hopefully with more to come!
and last but not least the latest nifty bit in googlemaps - you can view historical traffic data for major interstates - pretty sweet if you’re wondering exactly how miserable your commute will be if you move a mile or so away.
(also if you haven’t noticed by now, they also tied googlemaps in with wikipedia and some fotosharing site (not flikr) to expand some of the streetview functionality - great timesink at work)

Not sure which of you out there as into ‘up there’ as I am, but I thought this site had some fantastic photos and a good place to pick up things to look at anytime you look up.

The orbit diagrams page give each a java-powered animated visualization.. pretty groovy.

Heh, the modem is the one my father-in-law used until last year. That thing was sweet, way better than my 1200 baud that lies in my Ibm ps1 that takes up residence in my closet.
this is a fun little quiz from Richard Bartle (one of the guys who invented MUDs) about your gamer personality in online games
I’m an EKAS
EKAS players might be descibed as living by slogan: see the world, meet interesting people…and kill them. Immersion within the world is important to these players, because they love finding new things to explore–but they also enjoy the thrill of the hunt and finding other players within the world to fight.
Breakdown: Achiever 46.67%, Explorer 80.00%, Killer 53.33%, Socializer 20.00%
have fun, post your results if you want :)

Best Question: Would you rather: Hear what someone has to say?
Show them the sharp blade of your axe?
KEAS
KEAS players are often individuals who like to feel immersed in a virtual worlds and see themselves as a great villain or crusader within that world. They seek out challenges against other players, but they are going to find all the areas of that world. They’ll often know about the best hiding places and ambush points.
Breakdown: Achiever 40.00%, Explorer 60.00%, Killer 73.33%, Socializer 26.67%
Best Question: Would you rather be Feared or Loved? (I’d prefer people who were afraid of how much they love me.) - the office
AESK
AESK players are interested in the player-versus-environment aspect of the game more than anything else. They are often soloists who want to achieve and see what the world has to offer. Often, they find groups cumbersome and PVP to be more an annoyance than a feature.
Breakdown: Achiever 66.67%, Explorer 53.33%, Killer 33.33%, Socializer 46.67%
Best Question: Whats worse: To be without friends, or to be without power.
Powerless friends are pretty bad too I spose eh? :)
AKSE
AKSE players like to be the best-of-the-best at everything the game has to offer. They like to be high on the ladders of whatever metrics the game uses, including PVP. They like the best gear, the most power, and they love being the ‘first’ at something. Their prowess in PVP is generally supported by a large degree of understanding and posession of the best equipment and skills.
Breakdown: Achiever 66.67%, Explorer 26.67%, Killer 66.67%, Socializer 40.00%

Enter your questions in the right text box. Maybe it could offer some advice on the future of sloth mud.
calling her a whore didn’t get me anywhere.
Human: was a smelly bloke by the name of weasel recently along?
ALICE: I can’t say “yes” or “no”.
Human: did he call you a whore?
ALICE: Suppose he did.
Human: how did that make you feel?
ALICE: Carefully.
Human: I apologise for him ok?
ALICE: OK. Why?: Apprentice said he apologise for him.
Human: because he is mean and no one likes him
ALICE: Interesting explanation. I see. mean and no one likes him is he?
Human: yes
ALICE: Dude!
oh, I see where I went wrong.. I should have said crack-whore.

KAES
KAES players tends to enjoy the PVP aspect most of all, but also likes to pit themself against all the challenges of the PVE environment as well–although the latter is often a means to an end. This type of player will often enjoy PVP that focuses on their skill as an individual contributor (duels, and so forth) more than team-based PVP.
Breakdown: Achiever 60.00%, Explorer 53.33%, Killer 66.67%, Socializer 20.00%
Oh yes, they have very stupid questions/options like “a wizard to IDENTIFY items” (instead of “a wizard to burn everything that moves”). Also, in a question about what’s worse to be w/o friends or w/o power - i chose w/o friends in my own meaning “friends” = “more or less organized horde”. Zerg tactics, baby.
some of the questions were ’n/a’, but otherwise…very cool…

I finally decided to do the stupid survey…
Breakdown: Achiever 73.33%, Explorer 86.67%, Killer 20.00%, Socializer 26.67%
No surprises… given my more “how things work” approach to gaming. I would say the explorer percentage is probably a little high. Socializer a little low as well… but I’m not one for grouping…
how cute
