I’m wondering how many people would actually like a wipe.

My vote is YES for player wipe.

-Toxis

my wife would probally like it cause I would be done, I on the other wouldn’t.

I’ve first entered ‘yes’, but here are my few thoughts. I’d like a pwipe only if Sloth4 will be something really different and new for us all, and not that it gonna happen anytime soon I guess. But I like the idea, really. New classes, new mobs, new abilities, new races or remorts? mmmm! :) Maybe in a couple years, huh?

I think a lot of us like the one or two chars we’ve built up, and I doubt everyone is going to like the idea of starting from scratch again.

Not to mention shrinking the player base just as Sloth is crawling back towards #1 on TMC again :)

I haven’t been playing very long, but I finally got my stats together and left VK. I’d definately play another MUD if I got wiped.

yeah

it would put everyone on even footing again and ya could add the class-professions

I think this sloth is more different than sloth when it started than sloth III was from sloth II

Why does this topic come up again and again every few months? The end result is always the same - the overwhelming majority definitely do NOT want a full pwipe, and many people say they would use a pwipe as a reason to quit altogether, or at least would drastically reduce their time dedicated to SlothMUD (I’m one of the latter - most likely I’d use it as an excuse to concentrate on some other games, and once I’d got involved in those, there’d be no coming back - not that my individual presense here or lack thereof would make any difference) - all in all the final result would most likely be the death of SlothMUD.

If you are one of the few who DO want a wipe, then I’m sure Splork would be more than happy to oblige and wipe your personal character(s) for you without having to take everyone else down.

My personal vote is no. Firmly. Things are well on sloth, new things are always coming in, and ppl have spent far too much time building what the have gotten to this point.

Ummmm Not just no but Hell Mother F%@$#^& no….that would blow…so many people dont get to play that often as it is….the only justifiable reason for taking everything someone has worked for away would be because its BETTER for the majority of the mud and or the Game in general….(which is NOT the case) Splork and the other immorts are smoking some really good stuff and coming up with EVER increasing COOL SHIT…..

Dont Punish people because they have planned long and hard for thier chars and or clans…..

The haves…..are not responsibile for the have nots…feeling of inadequecies (SP)

The Economy of the mud is JUST FINE…..and the immorts are doin an amazing job….far better than in the old days…..

LET IT BE!!!!

M

(this is Mine and Cynix’s Vote)

i agree with Weasel

unless i hear from no less than Creator - i will ignore all stuff about wipe

yo know what differs Sloth from all others online games like Lineage etc?

my characters\vaults\etc are SAFE and no shit will happens with them

and this makes me return back again and again

stability rocks

We are extremely happy with Sloth. As most players are well aware, our game is as fresh as ever. We continue to add player’s ideas along with our own. Matter of fact, the next few weeks we have some amazing gifts for our players both ingame and out. Don’t forget the upcoming “quest of the century”!

We have no plans to pwipe. This topic does crop up every few months and we continue to say the same thing

Enjoy,

Splork

Erm, why would we want a wipe? To even the playing field?

It seems to me that the strong characters tend to be owned by strong players, who work with intelligence and patience on their characters. A wipe would even things for a while, but pretty soon those same players would build their characters back up, to end up with the same balance. Are there any other arguments in favor of a wipe?

Having so many avatars does cause some eq inflation.

No need for a wipe though.

Just take Youth potions out of the game and increase the penalties for age.

-Rub

No. If a person wants to wipe his/her char - ask an imm and get free.

As for eq inflation - dunno, may be it is not a big deal, but personally

i do not like inftaltion.

I see few ways to reduce inftaltion:

  • newcomers, who will buy your eq with pleasure ( votevotevote! )

  • new powerful high-end forges requiring a lot of high-end forges. ( dont like thsi idea much tho :x )

  • crafting , yeah, i would be happy if we had crafting.

we could have classic crafting that allow players ( who is mastered in art of smithing )

create nice items from hard-to-get resources ( miners, woodcutters, herbalists have to work hard to get enough resources )

and players master-mages could imbue those items with crystals of magic power

apparently we could have wild crafting, someting like

“bring 10 runed onyx bracelets to a forger and with some success chance you will get Runed Onyx Bracelet

with affects higher rather than standard item has, say 0ac 10healbonus 15sd”.

“bring 10 war greaves and if you lucky enough you may get -1.8 War Greaves” :P

/falsra

Just thoughts , but i always have strange thoughts on Mondays….

not only no, but HELL no. i don’t want a motherfuckingcocksuckingcuntlicking pwipe. forget it. i don’t want to hear any bullshit about “even footing”. we are all on even footing here…it’s only as hard or as easy as anyone wants to make it. lots of us have worked for years to get where we are - bank accounts, vaults, homes, castles, eq sets, stats, clans, friends. this is a community, a home. sure, there are some who can get 5x40 in 5 months….those players know who to group with, know where the coins runs are and know where the fat ass solo exps are. know what i say to that? HELL YEAH! your knowledge and skill SHOULD be rewarded with quick levelling. me, i am an eternal n00b and it has taken me almost 5 YEARS to get firebrand where she is right now. i am HAPPY with that because i have earned every single exp she has earned. i value her BECAUSE it has taken me so damn long to get her where she is. there will NEVER be such a thing as a level playing field. that is because the players are not on a level gaming field. we don’t all have the same eq, connections, or amount of time to be able to dedicate to playing. if you want a pwipe so goddamned bad, we will be glad to pwipe YOU. level your own damn playing field….keep making newbies. i will still lead groups and help your newbies get levs because that is what i enjoy doing. i think it is bullshit that the whines of the few think they can dictate the wants/needs of the many - and i will stop there before i get into political/religious crap

rebs

p.s. i wholeheartedly vote HELL NO on this

Just take Youth potions out of the game and increase the penalties for age.

-Rub[/quote:gsnbf9im]

errr.. I don’t think so - penalize players for working hard on their characters? Exactly what sort of incentive does that give players to log on? None.

Regardless of the outcome of this voting we aren’t doing a pwipe in the forseeable future. I think the only reason to ever do a pwipe is when the game rules have just undergone a change so drastic that the old characters just don’t make any sense any more; also when you can afford to lose half of your players. We try not to make such big changes in Sloth - basically, if a change would require a pwipe, we won’t do it.

If there is an economic problem with inflation or eq-hoarding or something like that, there are better solutions than a pwipe. I can just picture the Fed saying “inflation is too high; our prime rate controls don’t seem to be helping; we’re just going to have to kill everybody and start over.”

Sloth needs an enima. Let’s start with Krok. :x

I can just picture the Fed saying “inflation is too high; our prime rate controls don’t seem to be helping; we’re just going to have to kill everybody and start over.”[/quote:1zkgcjdi]

ROFL - don’t give the political moonbats any more conspiracy theories, they’re bad enough as it is.

I don’t think you could fix inflation by killing people, inflation tends to skyrocket during wars, genocides, etc..

Although it might work on homelessness or unemployment.

I can see the headlines:

     Bush Declares War on Poverty

pussies.

Some of us can’t stay home and mud all day Aa :p

even if you could you wouldn’t do it right

Ya know whats funny.

People bitch about pwipes, because it destroys invested time in nothingness.

A: That time is invested in nothing that actualy exists. Sure it exists in the

fabric of time which is the internet. But thats not really there either. Is it?

It exisists solely in fiber optic lands. In the mind of computers, which will

inevitably kill us all one day anyway.

B: People have a phobia of loosing virtual possessions. I worked for it,

there for it must be illegal to loose it?

My Track Record.

Ive seen this from both sides, having inevitably wiping 4 and 2/3rd’s muds

so far.

I wiped Soul Cypher (1.66 times) The 1st was an accident during a Halloween

quest. I thought I had the files backed up, (I did have the equipment, just

not the char files). So when I restored from running an avatar quest, the

only characters who got to keep their junk were those named A-F. The

2nd time was full to move on and fix pfiles.

I wiped Soul Cypher II.

I wiped Shankara.

I wiped Dogma. Though this one wouldnt have happened had the host

not been lost.

Its a time of fun. Rebuilding. Rediscovery.

Invariably. Those who played and were wiped, almost* ALWAYS returned

to play again. The names may have changed due to the wipe, but they still

played again. They still learned again. They still grouped and soloed

again. They still popped equipment again.

  • almost only counts in hand grenades, I know.

More over, I found this to be respectable. Because instead of bitching and

whining about the loss, they simply moved on, accepted the loss, and

rebuilt them selves back up each and every time.

Because each and every time they would achieve again and again.

I watched characters perma death their roughneck avatar’s during quests

and groups. Watched a 6x40 +28 avatar do this. He still turned around

and made another character, the exact same that VERY night. Actualy it

was me who killed him in a mob.

Whats funny, is I still have all the player files.

The game should be played for love of the game.

Not a self centered love of a character.

Remember this much.

All worlds die. Its the nature of the universe.

In the end, there is only void.

–agreed

To those who use the phrase ’even the playing field’: even what? do you

even know what the expression means or do you say it because its a

popular gripe? We’ve been there, we’ve done that–and the people that

sucked, still suck.(the good experienced players are still good, and the

good INexperienced players learned quickly and GOT good!)

[quote:14irovgd]That time is invested in nothing that actualy exists. Sure it exists in the fabric of time which is the internet. But thats not really there either. [/quote:14irovgd]

–As a 10yr IT proffessional, I know its there(until you dont want it to

be)…I can move the data, hold it in my hand, and erase it…I can burn a

tree to nothing, and have my car recycled back to its base, so did they

exist at all?

Time is something you only get once, and if you spend it

doing something that is important to you you dont want it to be

wasted, no matter what the task. Maybe priorities change over time,

and maybe to some its not as important as it is to others; but thats per

individual.

Starting over once is annoying enough, but I know for sure that even the

good players will get burnt on doing that crap over and over; and those

are the ones that you want to stick around.

[quote:14irovgd]I think the only reason to ever do a pwipe is when the game rules have just undergone a change so drastic that the old characters just don’t make any sense any more[/quote:14irovgd]

I dont support the evening the playing field theorum.

A good game will have an even playing field, the only difference remaining

is the difference between hardcore and casual gamers.

I’ve always been anti-stagnation.

If the pond is covered in slime and gunk, the pond needs to have a

river attached to it to keep all the algea and fungus and shit from growing

so the pond can support life. A stagnant portion of water will support no life.

You can move the data with a keyboard and a mouse: wordpad, vi, vim,

excel, sql, pico, edit.exe. you can print the data on a piece of paper for a

hard copy, or burn it to a cd.

If a persons house burns down, they start over, and build a new house, or

buy a new house (or their insurance does), and fill it up with more stuff and

more junk, until they have to buy a shed (vault) to hold all their crap in.

George Carlin has a funny stand up set on ‘stuff’.

If a persons car gets wrecked, they buy a new car (or their insurance does)

When an upper atnospheric EMP hits one of these days, the data will be

gone, but the tree, the house, and the car will still be there. The data on a

computer wont. (the car wont work if it was built > 91 though). The house

and the tree will still work. There will how ever, be a shortage on gas,

since most pumps work off electrical switching, which will has on the emp.

Thats the difference in tangibility.

But in the end, its all dead anyway.

Ya know whats funny.

 i never thought i would ever quote diazz… but this is one of the the only two important things listed in this thread.

the other of course would be.

This thread was started by[i:291w8k2f][b:291w8k2f] Brad[/b:291w8k2f][/i:291w8k2f].. who has no life and only plays sloth.. he has 45% of the chars ingame anyway. he would truly be the only one to benefit since it would be ridding him of a whole bunch of shit chars. So take his opinions with the same importance as you would a burping dog.

 If you take this thread seriously, then you really should seek professional help. Some people (myself included) just like to stir things up which is all this is. The Imm’s wouldnt do it without a major problem or general consensus anyway. And do you really think they want to hear all that bitching? [i:291w8k2f]“it is just a game” [/i:291w8k2f]

I agree with Mr. Six Dragons. Data is there. Just because you can’t feel it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Try ignoring your corporate backups for a few months, you’ll find out pretty quickly how much it’s worth. We’ve had atmospheric EMP bursts already. Things can be disrupted for a short time, but if you think there will never be a functional laptop again afterward I’d guess you’re wrong. Human society did not end the last time we had an EMP burst.

Then, and I know this isn’t related:

[quote:232poh9t]If the pond is covered in slime and gunk, the pond needs to have a

river attached to it to keep all the algea and fungus and shit from growing

so the pond can support life.[/quote:232poh9t]

You’d make a terrible druid. Algae and fungus is alive, so the pond is still “supporting life”…even if it’s not life that you approve of.

[quote:1t6uj1vo]We’ve had atmospheric EMP bursts already.[/quote:1t6uj1vo]

Not a big one. :)

[quote:1t6uj1vo]You’d make a terrible druid. Algae and fungus is alive, so the pond is still “supporting life”…even if it’s not life that you approve of.[/quote:1t6uj1vo]

I see, so to a druid, red-tide would be a good thing?

oh jeez

lock this fucking thread already..

why lock it?

just delete it and dock Brad 20 levs for starting it.

I’ve played many games where I didn’t care a bit if there was a player wipe… oddly, no one seemed to believe that until I decided to show that a competent player could level 60 times in 8 hours on their game (100 levels max). Suddenly everyone wanted to know where I learned to play… and I think Sloth II got a few more hits that day.

Sloth isn’t as easy. Yes, you can make a character that can level to 3x40 in xx time. I know a few tricks for making mad xp myself. There is still a considerable amount of time invested in any character. Type score sometime and look how much real life time you have invested in ONE character. Brad probably has the better part of his life invested in this game.

The good players know who they are. There’s quite a few of them. If you want a challenge, see if you can get the imms to issue hardcore chars. Characters that come with a limited number of allowed raises (or none) and some kind of natural bonus. Maybe make the requirement for starting one the deletion of an Avatar level character w/ equipment. You can get some newbie with whatever stats your sacrificed avatar had, the same learned list, and maybe something like the avatar light that gifts you with a couple bonuses for being a hardcore.

Or maybe I’m daydreaming again :)

We need professions IMHO, not remorts. Although the remort/hardcore

character idea is cool in its own right too. Characters need at least two

choices for each class they pick. An either or thing, like heals or buffs;

hp or dmg reduction.

I think professions are already addressed by attunement. Those could also be addressed by eq.

..not to mention you need a pretty large playerbase to support that level of specialization (ie: large playerbase so there are multiple groups running 24/7, or else many specialized chars can become useless and potential players just logoff).

Humms a subtle tune

[quote:19tu060r]I think professions are already addressed by attunement.[/quote:19tu060r]

Not even close.
