Coming upto the 24hour mark … last time this happened (and I only remember one such time) they re-opened SlothII for us to have a play on.

pfile backups are good till almost 1am lastnight. Jake suspects hard drive failure, hopefully not much longer for the hosting company to fix.

I think your right alias… although it’s obvious that certain lags on the hour are backups, I think some of the inbetween lags I’ve noticed the past few days will probably be fixed.
It’s a little more serious than just a disk but is recoverable.

This is really exciting….it’s more than morning now…it’s afternoon right? not that i can complain….

I have to admit, I must be a sloth addict… I’ve found it really hard to come home from work and to not be able to play sloth. It’s my “me time” for the day, and I really look forward to it. I read old posts on the crier, I studied the eq list… It’s all been really quite sad.
I tried to figure out from crier posts, why most of the DoW clan members seem to have a chip on there shoulder about something that happened with some old player 8 years ago… and who the heck are Alberich and 13, and who do they currently play at all? Why is autolycos such a nasty piece of work, or is he just a faker, and is he in fact married to weasel? Where the heck is splork? If blaster went back to the army for 3 years in 2005, isn’t he out now? Oh my goodness… the crier is a regular gossip magazine.
I even checked out DSL and MUME to try and figure out why people vote for those MUD’s… I honestly have no idea… maybe there is something I’m not seeing in them… But I thought they were… :!:

It’d be nice if the rest of the world wasn’t also being dragged down by your governments weak managment of the economy, but then I suppose its unavoidable with the US being the only world super power right now. Im currently working on the process of winning a audition with an orchestra in Japan. The U.S. orchestra jobs are rough, and with house, stocks and everything else. I can make more money and have a better life in a foriegn country as it is right now. And i see it only getting better earning Yen as time goes on with the current economy.
I tried playing DSL, logged in made a char. They stick you in this room with a rope, and it instructs you to pull it every 30 seconds until an immortal lets you enter the game and start playing. I waited and pulled the rope about 10 mins before I quit.
I have no idea why 92 people who were lucky enough to be allowed on playing it, the screen sucked as it was. Sloth 3 should seriously advertise or something.

Bouncing back and foorth through all the muds i have played in the past, tried out DSL, not very newbie friendly, where is the Deb of all chars in muds! i Miss my sloth! The 3 hours i have spent i am level 3 with over 300k in xp, in most muds that would be lvl 10 or higher, sometimes lower, makes you wonder how a mud like that makes the number one spot, no one talks to newbies, or even offers help…

Sorry for all of the delays First there was a Hard Drive crash, then to restore the OS, we chose Fedora 8. As it turns out, Fedora 8 doesn’t work so well with the slightly older server hardware we have - it would lock up and have all sorts of problems.
At the moment, I’m copying all of the data back out to the server, which is no longer running Fedora 8. This will take some time because the copy has to go across the internet. I’ll try to provide more frequent updates.

I didn’t expect it to take nearly this long to recover, so I apologize for that. In the 14+ years I’ve been an admin on Sloth, this is in the top 3 worst downtime events we’ve had.
Time estimates? Ugh, if you asked me for a time estimate when it first went down, I would have said 3 hours! So let me say 1-2 hours, but that’s just a guess at this point. If anyone has the energy to do some easy math. 2GB@98KB/second

No, fortunately it was only those characters that start with ’no’. All others should be fine.
Apparently player names with T to Z are ok… apparently there is some doubt about those that start with N though. Apparently, all there drachma totals got corrupted, or so someone told me.

You might not lead like Shyla, you may not Tank like Tremble, you may not get the xp of Vaire, but if you truely were willing to sacrifice your char for everyone else to be ok… like I think you were believing… you’ve got something more precious than all of them… it’s called character.
