More Alignment / Supplicant nerfing

·3257 words·16 mins

As if it wasn’t bad enough having to spend 2-3 runs trying to get alignment good … hit one good mob and …

Winds of Flame pour from your hands, killing Lady Drea instantly.

Lady Drea has been banished to the ethereal plane!

You received 1041867 experience points.

You are buffeted by waves of remorse! … it passes.

Blastem`s eudaemon looks at you disapprovingly, and vanishes!

Blastem`s eudaemon stops following you.

Everything Lady Drea was carrying suddenly drops to the ground.

could maybe see if this had even dropped me to evil … but it just dropped me to the lower end of neutral….

I thought atonement was supposed to be the fix for having to hit a good mob… then after killing an evil mob.. and my alignment starts heading back up….. I get this:

<118hp 65ma 147mv>

cast ‘restoration’ blastem

Ok.

The cleansing fires of healing fill your body!

<314hp 4ma 147mv>

Revel in the completion of your journey to evil!

Guess we can’t even cast healing on ourselves without dropping alignment

Thanks for another great change.

Blastem

cast ‘firewind’

Ok.

Winds of Flame pour from your hands, killing a greenish kappa instantly.

A greenish kappa is dead! R.I.P.

You are buffeted by waves of remorse! … it passes.

Autolycos`s eudaemon looks at you disapprovingly, and vanishes!

Autolycos`s eudaemon stops following you.

Total exp for kill is 1865112.

Your blood freezes as you hear a greenish kappa’s death cry.

A kappa’s spirit breaks as its material form is destroyed, leaving a

unholy shriek in the room.

With this 1 mob I went from Good Example, to Bad Example…. And my rabbit goes POOF!

ok, i thought the whole alignment pissing match was finally over. So you FORCED us to pick a specific manner of playing, just so we can use our spells etc. Now since we finally get that all sorted out, and resume playing. You find that you have to go and screw shit up worse? So is there a specific reason behind poofing our supps, or do you really enjoy making people sick of your pointless modification things to non-existance. At some point your either going to have to take a break from OVER-ENGINEERING the same items, and quite possibly work on something different…

heh.. removed suplication and grace aliases from my client a while ago.. seemed an exercise in frustration trying to use them. I wonder if grace will fall off too once you go below -3 or -4 (grace actually stops allowing you to cast it around -3.5 evil rating previously, but didn’t drop off if you had it up already).

yeah, this pretty much makes me not even want supps at all..

Clerics still get followers sometimes?

I was running around mindlessly the other day and found my alignment to be particularly entertaining. Since it’ll be quite some time before either supplication or grace is useful to me and I don’t really feel like casting detect good and evil all the time, it’s fun to watch my alignment jump up and down in my new prompt. It’s even more fun with the cool new messages that highlight my moral issues. They may actually earn the honor of my first official gags in my new client.

One kill evil and key spells that randomly change alignment simply make alignment too troublesome to worry about. So I actually have to rest to regen again instead of just summoning a peri. Oh well.

In the space of an hour, I was full good and full evil several times. I’ve decided that I’m either psychotic or schizophrenic. Probably both. Very realistic since I’m basically a serial killer. What can I say? I need spellbooks and equipment. Since I have once again been granted the ability to worship Blaster, this is probably appropriate. Maybe when I have my vault installed I’ll put it in the asylum.

I’m wondering when the cool new features using alignment are going to start kicking in because right now it just looks like the admin are simply anally raping clerics for fun and profit. I could understand their bias if they were all altar boys as children, but I doubt this is the case.

So where where does the yellow brick road lead?

I have a suggestion to give variety to the types of supplicants and such in sloth other than basing it on alignment issues. Maybe it wouldn’t work, but what is the harm of a little wishful thinking.

I think it would be better to have things move more in the direction of prime skills/followers like the Juju for necros. I know clerics get more supplicants as prime based on number of levels and such. However, I think things could move more in that direction. Since this is a multi-class game, supplicants could also be based on second and possibly tert and quad classes. i.e. a cleric/thief would have a different set of supplicants than a cleric/mage. You could do the same with necros and possibly druid forms. I leave it to others imaginations to add ideas for other classes. That way classo decisions would be more involved and might open up some new classos that are currently not as fun to play. For non-prime clerics/necros/druids there would still be a basic set of followers/forms. Anyway, this would obviously be more involved than a few alignment tweaks, but I’d be interested to know what other people think.

I know you missed the original implementation of supplicants, but just to bring you up to speed…

Vanyel and a few other obsessive compulsives spent weeks playing Name the Supplicants so that we could summon them. We then spent a few more weeks playing What Level Are They? I’m not really sure we’re finished with that game. It’s now been months and we’re still playing What Do They Do? The immortals are considering playing Let’s Write A Help File but first they want to play Let’s Decide What Supplicants Do.

In the meantime, most of us have decided it’s easier to just play Who Really Needs Supplicants Anyway?

So I think more supplicants would be a lot of fun.

Yes, I realize my ideas aren’t a quick fix. Maybe its more of a next generation of sloth type idea. However, I think there is still potential.

By way of clarification, my basic idea wasn’t just to add more supplicants though that may be involved. My base idea is to make the primary class more unique based on the following three classes. Another example would be a druid/thief differing from a druid/mage buy one unique prime form similar to supplicant example previously. I think the idea would add a lot more richness to the game if it were ever feasible. Classo would matter more. By giving the prime another skill or two based on subsequent classes, you could also do things like make a wa/th more desirable again as a tank in certain situations and a wa/mo better in others etc. etc. etc. Any other thoughts?

classo does already count for the vast majority of how one plays - supplication was intended to be a consolation prize to clerics for losing animate (at least that is how it was mostly explained), so having it dependant on anything other than cleric levels/position in classo doesn’t really make sense, imho.

This here is gay, why make changes like this ?

Soooo, has anyone seen the sky today? Talk about blue.

Well, my 2 cents.

  1. I’m cleric. Yes, I’m The One Who Uses Supplication. poke 12345 Supps are very helpful indeed, help me in soloing alot, bla-bla-bla. Those who can’t use it - my condolences.

  2. Fixing alignment for the big chars (yes, we are first to whine) is easy and is a matter of a run or two.

  3. Atonement spell is really tooooo long to wait for. Sucks.

  4. The stupid thing with supps leaving us after “wrong” kills is annoying. But I believe we’ll cope with it like we coped with strange perma-regen system, removed animates etc.

Heres my take,

Yes I am a cleric too. I rarely use supplicants. Occasionally if i am good enough, I will use the thunderbird to relocate myself. As far as fighting, I might use a eudaemon (if i happen to be good) but since I can’t kill hardly anything solo without the use of necro followers, I tend to be perm-evil. Just by summoning/animating necro followers, not even fighting anything, my alignment drops.

[quote:1txbt3oq]2. Fixing alignment for the big chars (yes, we are first to whine) is easy and is a matter of a run or two. [/quote:1txbt3oq]

Not for me. It can take an hour soloing without followers to get good. The easiest way for me to get good is to be in a group healing, other than that, without a backstab or deathgrip, I do not have a good lead. I guess i cold stay in town and give free heals long enough to change my alignment, but that would take a while too.

As far as attonement, I have the spell, but i have never casted it. It would not help me in any way with the way I have to solo.

One more comment on alignment, Clerics are mostly by nature good beings. It seems very odd to me that the cleric prime autoquest requires cycling a mob that is pure holy. Instantly decreasing your alignment to tainted with evil. It seems to me that more thought should have gone into the new alignment procdures before implementing them.

Madmax

If you think sitting in groups is the easiest way to change your alignment you really need to spend more time playing solo. It does take 1, maybe 2 runs for even a small avatar to change alignment by 10-15 points (and without stab - although mirrors do help) - you just need to learn more than “run oly, run tonys, run chicklings, run oly some more”.

I do also find it amusing that my thief (not-so-nice people, in theory) almost never has his alignment drop below +10, whereas my mage’s bounces all around.

I find supplicants unnecessarily complicated. Since it will be many billions of xp before I can summon anything useful, I really don’t care about using or not using them. This is sad.

I find that I do care about how they’ve been implemented. They’ve been treated as some grand quest that would be a boon to the cleric class if we could just become psychic and figure out how they work. After months, using them just seems to become more and more difficult. The gods have given very little assistance and a grand series of nerfs. I find this frustrating.

I’m also insanely low on sleep today and feeling more sarcastic than usual. If anyone feels offended, don’t be, it’s just me having a rough day.

i personally would like to see a ping pong match between Krok and 12345, maybe use jake as the ball, who knows. He could yell out vote everytime he gets whacked by a paddle, could be tons of fun. Or another good idea would be to make a supp that you could toss into mobs as an attack, like a midget or dwarf… that would be cool.

You know, now that i think about it… since we have all this data, server and files and such, how about we make a MUD? that would be cool.. we have most of the stuff to make one just laying about here on this Domain…

BOHICA to clerics as usual I see.

Frankly, I think supps should be a cleric prime thing.

Make supps a cleric prime thing, switch alignment back, give non-cleric-prime chars thier embalm drachma back, and FIX ALIGNMENT!

Qa

A ping pong match, yay-yay! :))

“run oly, run tonys, run chicklings, run oly some more”.

That’s what I was talking about… but… wait. Where’s oly? giggle

Ping pong match? Nah! ARENA!!!

p.s. 10 bucks on Krok, btw :D

Strangely enough, I find myself agreeing with QA, for once.

Ping pong sounds like fun. If she wants to slaughter me in the arena, that might be good for a laugh too. I can taunt her mercilessly as she’s winding me. TYSMIHA!

I’ve decided to try not to think about supplicants and alignment today and concentrate on something more important… like how nice Krok’s hair smells after a shower.

That’s a very nice thing to say.

Are you a supplican or a supplicant?

I often ask my friend Sped the eudaemon that while we’re fishing, Sped just looks at me. havn’t really had that big of a problem with alignment or supplicants. I run around with a gaggle of undeads and Sped most of time. Good, bad…. bleh, I’m just here to kill monsters. And it seems that killing big monsters with all these new skills and powers is easier then ever before. That supplicant book will be a godsend… don’t make it heavy! If Sped disappears after I murder Little Red Riding Hood, I just atone myself and summon him right back.

 brand

I’ve got an idea for a new area. Brand’s mind. You’ll have to find Brand fishing somewhere and crawl into his skull to get there. The area will have only 2 mobs, each one a single braincell running around the other one. Together, they will summon the craziest shit you’ve ever seen to kick your ass and/or confuse the shit out of you. Things like supplicans, supplicants, long hard rods, Charlie the Tuna and god knows what else.

Apparently I’m feeling sarcastic again. Sorry.

Having alignment oriented familiar/supplicants/…. is 100% RPG. Is SlothMud a RPG place or a “kill them all” one ? The answer is up to the mud owners what they want to achieve or not.

In my case, if i have to be “good” aligned to get my peri and hold her while running around, I have no problem since I do like this “RPG” side. Same thing for being a necro, I do think that necro should have an “evil”-aligned side for their undead followers.

2nd thing: I still can`t find the “search” book. If anyone knows where to find the search book, it will be great, thanks. A general hint would be the welcome.

Last thing: i found a “fusing rod” on VK that seems to be part of some quest or cps though i dont know what to do with it and i wouldnt like to leave VK while missing this one, its a personal equip. Any "hints" about what to do with the fusing rod ? (I did search the equip list: nothing). (This feature i dont like though…running around with something you don`t know what to do with and no mobs (?) will tell you about so far. If the questers could give some hints about any quest cps that would be great).

Thanks.

Argeos

maybe these should have been posted under newbie questions?

the fusing rod is a cp for an old autoquest that was never fully implemented, but the cps are still set to load randomly - maybe someday someone will come back and revisit this

search? uhmm… there is no skill/spell called ‘search’, so far as I know… maybe you are thinking of something else?

Ah, I don’t think the search book has been made yet, it should be in in the next few days. The skill uses something else that isn’t in-game yet and will probably come in gradually over time, so don’t feel there’s an urgent need to learn it. The book will be in the guilds, as it’s a lvl 1 skill.

The fusing rod was once part of an old quest… There’s 3 items total, the glowing magical rod of fusing, the hilt of blue flame and whatever the blade was called.

Yes the code seems to have been fixed to they will all pop again. As to the quest, I am trying to tie these items into my quest area so they will be used in time I guess you could say. As for having several sets of the cps, it is useless since you only need one set.[/quote:1f236dg2]

I think it should have been fixed in-game rather than having to read forums.

If there is a list of current “bugs” or whatever, it would be great to know.

Thanks

I think I kind of disagree with people assuming that a necro character is going to be evil, or assigning negative alignment to all the necro spells. All these years, people can think of their cleric characters as good or evil. Representatives of good or evil gods, and even supplication increases those options. You can supp for good or evil mobs, depending on how you want to play your character. Necromancers should have similar capability to choose how to play their character and which alignment they want to be. Most undead should be mindless automatons, more neutral than evil, who don’t even take any actions unless they have been commanded too. Necromancers should come in all three flavors, good / neutral / evil - most doctors don’t become evil when they perform autopsies.

I still would like to see some neutral supplication forms too, come on, give neutral a chance!

I think it should have been fixed in-game rather than having to read forums.

Since you consider quests to be bugs and we can’t discuss quests, that’s not possible.

A bunch of cps were made available in game again. They are intended to be incorporated into a Quest Area that’s not finished yet. Since B just joined the army, it may be a while before it’s done.

It’s not a bug and it’s not broken. It is considered a quest item so it’s not listed in the eq list. As far as being fixed in-game, Blaster has been working on that quest area for quite some time. It’s hardly an overnight job.

The necro spells don’t make you evil because casting them is morally wrong; they make you evil like the One Ring makes you evil, because there is a stratum from which necromantic magic is drawn and there’s something evil there that is spewing corruption along with the magic. There’s an opposed effect for the same reason in the healing spells. You can read ‘help strata’ for more details (I think).

Well, ignore me then :)

Let’s have a quest where we kill off that evil corrupting presence.

:)
