Here I am at -11.1…

Are we missing anything?

No obsidian great helm, that’s temp.

Helm of the Sky Kings, -1.4, 600drachma.

Olthoi helm isn’t ingame, sadly, or I’d buy it.

molten guards are -0.7 (guards of maul titans are -0.8 +max str), so any guards get you -0.1, Hiddenite drachma guards get you -0.2 (however I think Epaulets are better).

I think using light for .4 AC is a mistake. If I were tank I’d have a max AC mode for group, but would focus on a solo mixed AC/damage for my more elite mode.

Yeah, point taken. Idea is to start at Max AC and then start stripping back or sacrificing AC to allow for secondary and tertiary requirements to be combined into a better functioning mode. For example sacrificing a little ac for damage or spellsaves/spell dam is always on the cards, but easier to do so with an understanding of what the max ac eq is first.

You might have also noticed the “Hooked fauchard” is listed, as it has ac… but obviously this is a terrible and unpractical weapon to actually use.

Making the adjustments Taron pointed out which was +0.2ac and -0.1ac it would seem -14.5 is max without drugs.

Obviously in subsequent rebirths a wa/mo you should be able to Max their DEX and add another point bringing it to -15.5 plus. Add Goblet… so about -17.5 with crack. Josiah also points out there was a rare potion that give your char -10ac for a very short period, however he also suggested that there is a hard cap of -20ac… I don’t know how he knows this stuff without access to the source code or maybe he has important “friends.”

Furthermore, it appears that most people consider that a group tank should at least make -13 before it’s kind of seen as “acceptable” as a group primary. That’s actually a fairly high requirement and a non avatar warrior will almost certainly require some crack to get even close.

I’ve learned almost nothing from “friends”. I do have a few suspicions from assisting with bug fixes over the years. I don’t ask questions about hidden game mechanics. Instead, I poke and prod within the game to figure out how it works.

I still feel like my greatest success was my newbie warrior who never trained double attack. When he turned on parry, he had zero attacks and so could tank while invisible. He tanked for an awesome lowbie-only autoquest before that game mechanic was fixed. We try things.

AC cap is easy to demonstrate:

Get your AC below -10

shapeshift armadillo

curl (form unique ability granting -10.0 AC in exchange for large damage penalty)

quickly unshift before the affect wears off

Strong mobs can get in a few hits when you’re -20, but its a pretty impressive level of protection.

I calculate maximum possible hooked-fauchard-type AC to be -15.0 for a 9x40 remort warrior wearing a rumored -.3 honor clasp (that briefly appeared in the official eq list). The remort bonus seems to be .2 AC, I’m not sure if there is any hidden bonus.

15 + goblet + 4 speed potions = -18.9 (neck swap)

A wa/th or wa/ba has a higher dex cap, and could reach -19.4.

This… will almost certainly never happen, and even if someday a decade from now someone pulls it off, they would still be well served by sacrificing some of that AC and equipping a weapon and increasing hp and dr.

Gorka, ac is not limited to high avatars. It is limited to warriors, who spend their time on getting eq, rather than fighting in the coliseum.

At around 6x40 I started working on my ac, moved up an 1ac point or two and started tanking half of my own groups. If I had started leading eq groups earlier, I could have had -12 ac at 4-5x40 instead of 6x40. A pretty low level avatar, if you ask me. Up until 9x40 I’ve had around -12.5.

Making a rhodo definitely helped, but it doesn’t happen if you don’t group. *didn’t. Now you can pop t3 gems solo.

Though, to be fair, whenver War or Josiah joined with better ac, I let/made them tank which was not illogical.
