Maybe someone needs to explain to me what the “General Chat” message board is for. I don’t know if this is directed towards me but I would hardly call anything I post to be racist or inflammatory. Yes I do post political articles and I am sorry if it hurts your feelings that some people don’t believe the Federal Government should be telling us what toilet paper to use. If this is not a message board for General Chat then change the name to “Only slothmud material board”.
Edit: The live info on on main page is not working. I checked it the night of the quest and it didn’t show a group so I figured the quest hadn’t started yet. Then I notice today it has the same info. Maybe we should care more about functionality and less about trying to squelch people’s opinions.

why are we catering to snot-nosed, whiny “my poor eyes can’t stand controversy” a55holes who don’t need to be here in the first place if they don’t like the conversational content on the crier? quit kindergartening and babying everyone. this game is not played by sheltered ninnies. if you are on the net at all, you will at some point get exposed to non-pretty thoughts and ideas. don’t sugarcoat the truth - it is a waste of time.
we are no different on the crier than ingame. what newbie won’t try a game out because of how players talk on forums? how are they to know the difference between actual players vs forum trolls when most players have multiple characters in a game and sometimes choose usernames on forums that are gasp NOT THE SAME AS THEIR CHARNAME! when i am checking out a website for a game that is new to me, i really don’t give a damn about the forums bullshite. it is just people’s opinions and they are entitled to express them. no one online expects us to be “please” “thank you” and “oh gosh.” no one is that deluded. so quit trying to be the thought police and let them see that we are like any other gaming community - some players will always disagree with each other.
if you’re going to take the unpleasant posts off the front page, then take down every single post of a hot chick in provocative poses and next to no clothing too…..oh wait THOSE are okay. it’s okay to let surfers see that we are posting some form of porn but not okay to let them see us argue about politics. give me a fu k k ing break. what new player won’t come to the game just because we hurl insults at each other on the forums? get real and quit nerfing EVERYTHING. leave the crier alone - fix the real problems that people WANT fixed (cough heal self while blind cough) rather than wasting time on something that isn’t broken.

We were getting a lot of new players and at the time there was a lot of negativity right on the home page of the website. Normally if I log onto a place and see that sort of negative comments about the game, I become uninterested and look for a better place to go. I just don’t like seeing that much negativity, and it gets people thinking maybe the mud is really screwed. It’s not screwed, people are just very strong emotioned about things and we’ve known each other for quite some time.
We decided that all that negativity right there on the front page was a bad thing. And I support that 100%. Now, Splork has mentioned that he is planning on bringing back the “new since last” link, but put it in a place that’s not going to be right out there on the home page.
There’s plenty to fix and do up here, so we thank you for all the patience you can muster.

Bring the “new since last” link back? It’s still right there under “town crier” on that menu to the left. I’ve been using it since the new posts left the homepage.
There’s actually a customizable menu on this site, and I use it and have done for a long time. It puts an additional menu box on the lower left hand side, and you can put whatever links in it you like, including external links. I have links directly to the chopping block, eq list, main maps page, and voting sites from there.
The way you set it up is click on the ‘home’ link that’s on the top left menu right now, then on resulting page on the lower right you will see a box titled ‘main menu’. Click on the link titled ‘my account’ in that box. On the resulting page, click on the link with a picture of a house above it, titled “Edit your home page”.
Now just check the “Enable your personal menu block”, and then write in HTML all the links you want to appear, for example:

Save changes, and you’re done. On the left hand side of any page from now on, there will be a new block of links that are all yours. Kewl huh.

If I were a newbie and read half the stuff the handful of majority posters post I wouldn’t play, or even log on. Yes most newbies will be subjected to the same personalities online, but how’s about we give them a chance to like the game and judge the asses after that rather than making them think everyone who plays is an ass and not even log on.
If you people really dont want newbies coming and want to run off anyone who might carry on Slothmud for another generation, then we can most assuredly shut it down and save you the grief, griping, bitching, and moaning. Why experience a slow death? Just end it with a single bullet….
Sheesh, I’ve been around 15 years, immortal for 5 (7 counting my previous stint on sloth2), and Ive never seen so many people take this fun game and turn it into something comparable to a job that is miserable and can find nothing better to do than bitch.

I think some of you guys take these discussions too seriously. I try to bring serious debate and not nonsense and personal attacks. However that doesn’t mean I let ex clan members run their mouths. I seem to help plenty of new players in game. If my actions on this message board greatly outweigh my actions in game then someone needs to tell me. BTW Dave its nothing personal I still sac to yah.
No worries, I think discussion is great, and political discourse is fine too. We are (most of us anyway) complex and thinking individuals. I’d much rather these sort of discussions here than on in-game gossip, that’s for damn sure (not that I’m free of sin when it came to the pre-election frenzy). But if we want to expand the player base, the way the index page is now is a good way to do it.. rope them noobies in with the access links:

Speaking of hating, I want to apologize to someone. A week or two ago I was getting very frustrated with stupid non-popping mobs, and was trying to get the sash commander to load using Ferret (Ferret does not care about trivial things like honor). I logged Ferret off for a moment to get something with Weasel, and of course just my luck the sash reappeared and loaded during that time, and someone else was killing him when I arrived to check him. I think it was Xamak or someone like that? Anyway sorry for abusing you and tossing you into the wall dude. You got the pop anyway, and it loaded for me the next day.

stipulating I don’t play nearly as much as I used to, the past couple times I’ve been around there’s been on average 6-7 people? At least with the crier threads on the front page new players know there actually is some kind of community, even if it is an occasionally dysfunctional one that has a healthy interest in the human form (you can post beefcake Reb, noone will complain I don’t think).
This is pretty much exactly why I dont want this thread on the front page of our website. Our numbers may be lower than we are used to but they have never averaged 7 or 8 during a boot up.
While I know everyone here and am used to this type of banter, I hardly think a new person visiting our website would give us two seconds of their time if they thought we had an average of 8 players on who constantly bickered and bitched like these threads show.

Holy bat-flaps grandma, the crier gets taken off the main page for like a couple weeks and all of a sudden I’m behind! I had to read the whole string of posts on this subject, and all I come up with is…. Hilarious… honestly… As for Tap being a hater… Eh, he’s as much of a hater as Yasukz is a pron freak :)… Another thing is, Racism, isn’t that like everywhere? Some people are racist some aren’t the fact is EVERYONE is prejudice, everyone looks at someone and thinks something about them… WHO CARES?! No one knew Yasik was a porn freak before he posted on the crier or opened his mouth on the gossip channel.
When it comes down to it if you miss a couple posts on the crier its only a better reason to hop on the soap box and write a little longer of a post, no big deal :twisted:
And on the subject of it no longer being on the home page, oh well, Rick took care of it, take an extra second click the town crier button on the left of your page and click general chat and all of a sudden you can catch right back up :)
EDIT: And just because some people rant on here more than they play the game doesn’t mean they make productive time out of the time they’re logged on to the game, Medi is a new player and got quite some new eq stuff that could be helpful to most newbies, mainly because I have a soft spot for new cleric primes! But still, you cant judge how people play the game by the way they post on the crier…
