A radical group Barack Obama used to work for is committing voter-registration fraud in several states, ahead of the election. What does Obama know about this scam?

It’s a legitimate question to raise now that the FBI has raided the offices of the nonprofit Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now in Nevada and North Carolina, two states where Obama and John McCain are running neck-and-neck. ACORN has registered bogus voters in both states.

The group’s voter-registration fraud is rampant, and authorities plan a nationwide sweep of ACORN offices to collect records.

In Nevada, state officials say the fraudulent registrations included forms for the starting lineup of the Dallas Cowboys football team, including quarterback Tony Romo.

“Romo is not registered to vote in the state of Nevada,” Secretary of State Ross Miller said, “and anybody trying to pose as Terrell Owens won’t be able to cast a ballot on Nov. 4.”

While those names will be flagged on Election Day, felonious voters may have better luck using other cutouts. Nevada, along with several other key battleground states, requires no ID to vote.

In North Carolina, where Obama has been running nonstop ads, ACORN has registered a record number of new voters, many of them suspicious. Statewide, Democrats are doing better than the GOP in new converts — even in traditionally Republican counties.

There have been 218,749 newly registered Democrats in North Carolina since January — more than five times the 38,337 new Republicans, state records show.

The numbers show a startlingly close political battle even in Republican-dominated Union County, with 4,233 new voters registering as Democrats and 4,362 as Republicans. In previous election years, new Republicans have outnumbered Democrats 2-to-1 in the fast-growing Charlotte-area county.

In Missouri, one ACORN registrant named Monica Rays showed up on no less than eight forms, all bearing the same signature.

Suspicious election officials sent letters to some 5,000 ACORN registrants in St. Louis, asking the letter recipients to contact them.

Fewer than 40 responded.[/color:2ce3xojk]

In Kansas City, 15,000 registrations have been questioned, and last year four ACORN employees were indicted for fraud.

ACORN already has it’s grubby little paws out to get a nice little chunk of

change from the bailout. With regards to Sarah Palin, the ex-Brother In law in question has stated that he held no anomosity. Not that it would have mattered, he used a taser on his 10 year old son. Sarah Palin has a whopping 80% approval rating from her fellow Alaskan’s. NObama has between 30-40% in regards to Chicago.Funny how the DNC has nothing on Palin and McCain managed to make a fool out of them and waste time and effort that will lead nowhere.

Of course you realize the entire Palin investigation group was ‘relived of their duties’ and replaced with a bunch of liberal democrats, don’t you? This, much like Obama’s ACORN, is just more evidence of huge election fraud. In any other state that pig would have been kicked out of the force and probably had some jail time added on as well. Even he knows damn well he got off lightly, and that it was probably because of Palin that he is still a cop today.

Furthermore, if you think a Chicago politician like Obama hasn’t done ten times worse than what Palin is accused of, you’re blind as well as stupid. Fraudulent donations numbering well into the tens or hundreds of thousands, HUGE voter fraud by a supposedly non-partisan organization that consists of extreme leftist democrats, financially supported by Obama, so huge that in two areas now there are more registered voters than there are people living there! Strong ties to convicted socialist terrorists spanning years, constant completely unfounded accusations of racism (even for things as ridiculous as Palin wearing a white jacket one day), years of membership to socialist political organizations, ties to criminals like Rezko, abuse of position using local authorities to threaten citizens and organizations alike against speaking out against Obama, violation of basic Constitutional rights, long-term membership in an American-hating racist ‘church’ (and don’t dare tell me none of that sunk in after 20 years of ranting sermons), and much much more, and the MSM completely ignores it because they hate Bush so much, and Obama’s idiot followers fall over themselves just to lick his boots for no other reason than ‘he’s a great orator’ or some such sh*t..

WAKE THE FCUK UP.

If Obama wins and turns this country turns into a socialist regime and all you work for is worth nothing, I would take great pleasure in kicking each and every one of you who voted for this fcukwit right in the balls. Repeatedly.

I’m no longer amazed that so many Americans are stupid enough to repeatedly have the wool pulled over their eyes by politicians like Obama, and the reason I’m no longer amazed is that I’ve come to the realization that many Americans [i:1p87yyzu]are[/i:1p87yyzu] just plain stupid - that much is clear by the cult of Obama they are following.

BTW, I don’t think much at all of McCain, but Obama? Seriously, this is suicide for America, imo.

btw, if you missed it, there’s homeless guys now admitting that ACORN have been giving them cigarettes and cash to register over and over with different names and addresses supplied to them by ACORN staff. One guy that was interviewed said he had filled out 72 registration forms. There’s another video of an ACORN worker who didn’t realize he was being taped, and he’s sitting there altering a pile of (previously valid) registration forms that had been filled out already. Another video of a girl not even old enough to vote saying she is harassed into filling out registration forms up to 5 times every day by ACORN workers. When she tells then she’s already registered they just tell her to do it anyway and change the date of birth.

For each one of these registrations that gets accepted (which is almost all of them, clearly numbering in the high tens or hundreds of thousands by now nationally), an individual can go in and claim to be whatever that name is and then go vote, then go to another station and claim to be another name registered to vote there and go vote again, and again, and again, and again etc etc… the highest number discovered so far are all in the swing states (gee what a surprise). Oh, and of course the fraudulent forms identified so far are overwhelmingly democrat voters, in case you’re too stupid to have figured that out yet. This is Obama’s ACORN, Obama’s ex-employer, now financially supported by Obama. If you still don’t see what is happening right in front of your eyes, then you do not deserve to vote.

Are you irish weasel?

I’m a mongrel. I think a little bit of Irish, definitely Danish and some German blood, some Swedish, some French and some English. Some American and New Zealand too, but I consider both countries too young to really count as a bloodline..

I’m just pissed at the tiniest thing such as the color of Palin’s jacket being some major scandal, yet Obama’s ties with domestic terrorists, criminals and blatant election fraud seem to be of no concern to so many…

I remember now why I avoid talking politics here. Oh and I think you’re stupid too.

Laff.

You started a thread bashing Palin, yet don’t like the overwhelming negative info on NObama that can be backed up with facts VS your “speculation aka wishful thinking”. Stupid is that stupid does, sir.

[img:1afty2xx]http://images.starpulse.com/Photos/Previews/Forrest-Gump-p11.jpg[/img:1afty2xx]

I didn’t start a bashing anything. I posted an article and you can disagree all you like. I just don’t think “you’re stupid” is going to win you any arguments.

Weasel,

  1. Obama is not a terrorist.

  2. Palin is not qualified to be president of the United States.

  3. Critical reasoning is not your strong suit.

Weasel,

  1. Obama is not a terrorist.

  2. Palin is not qualified to be president of the United States.

  3. Critical reasoning is not your strong suit.[/quote:352ed4yz]

(1) I stated Obama has strong ties to domestic terrorists, criminals, and other fraudulent and socialist organizations, and have the facts to back it up. You claim he’s not a terrorist in response. Prove it.

(2) Palin is not running for President. Obama is. Palin has more executive experience than Obama. If you think Palin is not qualified to be president of the United States, then I presume you must certainly be voting against Obama, in which case I congratulate you on your insight and sensibilities.

(3) Judging by your other two responses, I think I’ll just mention something about throwing stones and glass houses…

Back to Palin, the investigation was “a partisan-led inquiry” run by supporters of Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama. [b:c8onazvu]The inquiry found that Monegan’s firing broke no law.[/b:c8onazvu]

Let me repeat that:

[b:c8onazvu]The inquiry found that Monegan’s firing broke no law.[/b:c8onazvu]

Gov. Palin was [b:c8onazvu]cleared[/b:c8onazvu] of the allegation of an improper firing, which is what this investigation was established to look into.

However the Legislature exceeded its mandate in finding an ethics violation. Lacking evidence to support the original allegation, the Legislative Council seriously overreached and effectively found that ‘Palin did nothing wrong, but we think she’s wrong anyway’.

The supposed ethics violation is a subjective conclusion and has no relationship to the actual inquiry.

Notice that the media is OF COURSE ignoring that Palin was found innocent of breaking any laws, and instead is saying Palin is guilty. What a surprise.

Once again, if you don’t see this for the Obama-promoting smear that it is, you’re.. wait for it.. stupid, which is just what Obama is betting on.

No-one has to prove anything to you.

Try to play and enjoy a slothmud game.

At this point neither side will care what comes out about either candidate. I will be glad when the election is over with so we can get back to ruining the country with deficit spending and more government.

I will be glad when the election is over with so we can get back to ruining the country with deficit spending and more government.[/quote:tzobzcwj]

LOL.. true that. :D

I just don’t think “you’re stupid” is going to win you any arguments.[/quote:2626er3f]

Fair enough, that was a bad call on my part. I’ll rephrase it: Obama thinks most Americans are stupid; don’t prove him right.

Already been proven…

edit: prove you aren’t.

Already been proven… [/quote:clmwdgiq]

Apparently so, judging by the fact he’s currently leading the polls.

edit: prove you aren’t.[/quote:20d08yy8]

LOL.. easy - I can see through Obama’s BS cultist personality and read the facts about him as they stand.

So whose winning the game… or is this just the first set?

Vote Broly, he won’t let you down.

This thread needs moar tits!

I deliver.

So what are you trying to say here - that Fox news [i:1miwyxsf]made[/i:1miwyxsf] Obama say that he’s going to redistribute your wealth to anyone who earns less than you? Is that it?

Had a look at Obama’s new ‘plan’ yet? It’s so flawed, one could almost believe it’s designed to bring America to its knees and behead it.

You read the financial press in the months since Bear Stearns? The Fed and Treasury don’t need any help from Obama to socialise the U.S. In a few short months, all the home mortgages have become U.S. government (read Chinese Government) funded, and all deposits insured.

That’s some beautiful socialism there.

(Not that I’m throwing stones from the glass house that is Australia. Just sayin . . . )

Ah yes, but that bailout vote was pushed by the Democrats through the House of Representatives and Senate - Bush does not just decide to make this stuff up and declare it law, all he does is sign it at the end once Congress have voted on it and decided it should be done. Congress (House and Senate) majority is Democrats, which is what Obama is. It was due to the ’no’ votes from Republicans that the first bill didn’t make it through.

Again, I’m not a McCain fan, but Obama is way worse, and Obama himself claimed he was integral to making the bailout bill happen.

In short, your argument that government is already socialist actually supports what I am saying, so cheers. :D

In short, you are a right wing nutjob, just like the people who have been ruining our country for the last 8 years.

Hello, typical white person here clinging to my gun and Bible. Still doubt NObama is a Marxist?

[url:10wbp3az]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CY4K23Y7Qas[/url:10wbp3az]

Why do you make people out to be black or white? Can’t they be a shade of grey?

I don’t trust Greys, they like forcing things up your bum.

[img:zja4o3sx]http://www.alienvideo.net/0702/img/alien_greys.jpg[/img:zja4o3sx]

Maybe you could label Obama a Marxist, but then what should we call the Republicans? The fascist party?

Even if you don’t like blacks or liberals, Obama is the better candidate. Even if McCain wins, he would have divided the country in such a way that would make it ungovernable.

Obama is uniquely qualified to lead this country with a mandate from the people and I fail to see how that could be a bad thing, whether Obama likes to read Marx or not.

And to repeat something someone has already pointed out; he couldn’t possibly socialize the country more than Bush’s administration just has.

edit: I hate grey people.

In short, you are a right wing nutjob, just like the people who have been ruining our country for the last 8 years.[/quote:2pr2hg4i]

LOL was wondering when you’d revert to that - always happens when libs can’t refute the facts about Obama.. either they get abusive, blame Bush, or they just flat-out lie :D ..FYI it was Clinton’s ’every American should have a home’ plan that removed market regulation, and forced Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac into lowering their mortgage requirements. Bush actually voted against that and tried to since, but democrats always overruled - best you educate yourself on the facts instead of reciting the liberal BS blame game.

Maybe you could label Obama a Marxist, but then what should we call the Republicans? The fascist party?[/quote:2pr2hg4i]

Again, Congress is democrat majority, and has been for the last 2 years. You want to blame someone for the ‘fascism’ - blame your democrats.

Even if you don’t like blacks or liberals, Obama is the better candidate. Even if McCain wins, he would have divided the country in such a way that would make it ungovernable. [/quote:2pr2hg4i]

Again another liberal defense: accusing people of racism if they don’t support Obama. Well Mr Racist, I don’t give a flying fcuk what color Obama is, I vote for what’s right for the country I live in - or in the case of this election, I will vote against what’s worse for this country. I’ve said before I’m not a McCain fan, so trying to use that as some sort of defense is futile.

Obama is uniquely qualified to lead this country with a mandate from the people and I fail to see how that could be a bad thing, whether Obama likes to read Marx or not.[/quote:2pr2hg4i]

Explain to me how Obama is qualified to lead this country again? Because you said so, is that your logic again? Great. You know, people have been asking that same question for months of how Obama is qualified, and I’ve yet to hear an answer, other than:

(a) because he’s a great orator.

(b) because he’s a black man.

(c) because I said so.

(d) shut up you’re a racist.

and often in that sequence, and you seem to have come pretty close to it too. Go figure.

And to repeat something someone has already pointed out; he couldn’t possibly socialize the country more than Bush’s administration just has.[/quote:2pr2hg4i]

And again to repeat something many people have said, Congress have approved these socialist measures, and Congress is a democrat majority.

You need to educate yourself about this person you are so convinced is right for the country, because you seem to know nothing about him.

Fact is, I’m sad to say the way things look, Obama will win this, and you will find out the hard way exactly what you’ve been blindly promoting without first educating yourself. I guess you’ll at first be happy with it if you’re one of these people who think they are entitled to have everything given to them and not have to work for it, which is so much the international stereotype of the fat lazy American. A few years down the line when those above get sick of working to support your lazy a$$, they’re going to stop working and demand handouts just like you, then you’re going to have second thoughts when the money’s all gone, but by then it will be too late.

Socialism has never worked anywhere. It keeps the poor poor, turns the middle class into poor also, and creates a very very small super elite political authority, who keep themselves in power through fraud and intimidation. If Obama gets in, I’ll be taking everything I can from this country - every possible grant, benefit and handout, and when the house of cards falls, I’ll leave you holding the bag, because that is, after all, what you wanted. Reap what you sew buddy, just a shame you won’t open your eyes while you still have a chance.

Who does one vote for, if you believe in some ideals of Capitalism and Socialism to certain degrees? You need balance!

You make it sound like Obama and McCain are poles apart… when they they probably stand in about the same place… leaning in different directions.

You could tell me 1000 differences… but really how does this effect your life directly? Bet it doesn’t. Certainly not worth drawing lines in the sand, and losing friends over it.

I appreciate your passions, but for what? I’ve never had a government make a direct effect on my life ever… and I guess I’m lucky in that regard… but honestly we have our “republicans” and “democrats” over here, and truth is, nothing changes for me when they swap and change.

I have the same job, the same car, same family, same everything. Same town council, same state council…. same same same! What ever government that is in, just follows the tides of world events and other governments just like everyone else. Our new government has been in almost a year now… different face on TV is all the change… my life hasn’t changed a single bit that you could ever tell.

This is like a war over +1 mana regen per tick… sure it’s nice, but it’s effect isn’t too much worth the hassle.

Yeah it’s weird J[b:33fntbwj]ezer[/b:33fntbwj]. When I came here from NZ I was laughing at the ’eww you’re a democrat’ ’eww you’re a republican’ bollox that goes on here. I mean seriously, people base their entire group of friends on their political affiliation, it’s really bizarre, I just couldn’t figure it out. I guess I’ve lived here long enough now that I’ve got sucked into it too, because it [i:33fntbwj]will[/i:33fntbwj] effect how we live, way more than it ever did when I lived in NZ. Thanks for the reminder of where I come from though - down under - and that’s where we’ll be heading when it really turns to custard here.

[b:33fntbwj]Juggleblood[/b:33fntbwj] (and anyone else), I’m willing to just drop the subject if you’ll not mention it either, it’s not like either of us can change it (no pun intended), and I guess what will be will be - it’s just Ka. When I say drop it, I really mean not a friggin word [i:33fntbwj]at all[/i:33fntbwj] on the subject. I made a similar agreement with Yasik a while back and we’ve both stuck to it, and it’s made slothmudding more enjoyable as a result.

What say you?

This is the single most important election that will occur in our lifetimes. What we are observing is a not just a political realignment of the parties, but a revaluing of our national priorities as a nation. Meanwhile we all hold our breath hoping the entire economic order doesn’t come crashing down on our heads.

It matters, and you’re wrong. In fact you’re so wrong I think you are mentally feeble and if I choose not to engage your ridiculous arguments directly, be assured I will continue to shine a light on your stupidity.

I don’t buy the argument that the harmony of the mud is affected by political bickering on the crier. I’ll gladly help anyone in game, regardless of the ignorant crap they spew on this forum.

Wow. I don’t appreciate having that olive branch shoved up my a$$ - what an arrogant a$$hole you are.

You have not refuted ONE SINGLE FACT, not a fcuking ONE, and still you stand here saying you’re right, without giving one scrap of evidence??? Says it all really. What a c[b:2menzgjb]u[/b:2menzgjb]nt. Go fcuk yourself.

There - that’s probably a response you can relate too huh, d[b:2menzgjb]i[/b:2menzgjb]ckhead.

ignorant crap they spew on this forum.[/quote:1ax8lil4]

No one mentioned my name in relation with that statement

A single small view of New Zealand… my day feels so much better already… I want to go back… but I want my job here in Australia :( Can I have my cake and eat it? No…. oh well…

Oh, and btw, we climb up those shingle screes on the side of the mountain and run down them… omg! So much fun, you have to run sideways to slow down, and you can’t stop or you get stuck in the ground! :D

Nice - Mount Cook I believe. :)

[img:2mz4xq5t]http://www.roflcat.com/images/cats/keyboard.jpg[/img:2mz4xq5t]

what an arrogant a$$hole you are.[/quote:3mh5fysb]

That’s just hilarious.

Yeah yeah whatever, make this about me then and call me racist and retarded if that helps you deny the issues with Obama. Still nobody has offered [b:21xhnla1]anything[/b:21xhnla1] to refute the facts about Obama, or to persuade me I’m wrong.

What Juggleblood did say (which I agree with), is that “What we are observing is a not just a political realignment of the parties, but a revaluing of our national priorities as a nation.” Very true. Apparently many want to welcome socialism as the new way, and a leader who has given every indication he will take you there. I assumed nobody would want that, and that’s been the basis of my arguments.

[b:21xhnla1]Listen, if you [i:21xhnla1]want[/i:21xhnla1] socialism, then just say so, and we’ll have nothing more to argue about.[/b:21xhnla1] That I can accept and respect. It’s the complete denial of facts that are right in front of your face that I’ve had a problem with.

You’re respect isn’t important to me. Neither is this discussion.

You’re respect isn’t important to me. Neither is this discussion.[/quote:w80do0wl]

So why are you responding? You’re contradicting yourself by doing so.

Guilty conscience perhaps?

Hi

The burden of proof is not on the skeptic.

If you wish to make claims about something, you must back it up with evidence.

I have not seen any evidence, just claims.

From both sides.

I do not have the time or energy to dig up evidence for or against your claims, so if you want to be taken seriously, back it up with some hard evidence.

Or at least a link to someone who has that evidence.

I have not seen any evidence, just claims.[/quote:1tkgv05c]

Congratulations Poggle on trying to draw out this thread, with more links to biased and opinionated newspapers and stupid “proof I’m right” pictures. I laugh so hard when I read these things. So lame and focusing on the smallest of details to make infinitely bigger points than they can hold.

[img:1tkgv05c]http://www.funxite.com/media/136-fighting-squirrels.jpg[/img:1tkgv05c]

Republican! Democrat! Socialism! Take that you scurvy dog!

My hope was simply to remove the stupid claims without real evidence, not make sure the stupid claims had stupid evidence to back them up.

To Weasel:

[quote:3h00kv0o]

Such a country would be more stable, Bush argued, and more prosperous. “America is a stronger country every single time a family moves into a home of their own,” he said in October 2004. To achieve his vision, Bush pushed new policies encouraging homeownership, like the “zero-down-payment initiative,” which was much as it sounds—a government-sponsored program that allowed people to get mortgages without a down payment. More exotic mortgages followed, including ones with no monthly payments for the first two years. Other mortgages required no documentation other than the say-so of the borrower. Absurd though these all were, they paled in comparison to the financial innovations that grew out of the mortgages—derivatives built on other derivatives, packaged and repackaged until no one could identify what they contained and how much they were, in fact, worth.[/quote:3h00kv0o]

Arnold Kling says that there is a huge divide between those who make the policies, and those who actually understand the policies. I doubt anyone in the house truly understood what they were passing. He calls it “suits vs. geeks.”

He also says that there is evidence that the geeks kept warning against these high risk mortgages (which were classified as low risk thanks to regulatory loopholes), but the suits ignored the information/didn’t get the information in the first place.

On a side note, take any politician, Republican or Democrat, and find one who would prefer to say “No, if you can’t afford a house, you shouldn’t be in one” vs “Every American family should own a house.”

Not all banks “participated” but more than enough gave in to loans that shouldn’t have to avoid negative publicity ala “that bank is racist” blah, blah, blah. It’s a proven fact that the government had policies that penalized banks and pulled funding if said bank didn’t “approve” certain loans.

[quote:259tyflz]On a side note, take any politician, Republican or Democrat, and find one who would prefer to say “No, if you can’t afford a house, you shouldn’t be in one” vs “Every American family should own a house.”[/quote:259tyflz]

Every family should have the opportunity to own a home. But they should earn it and not have their hand held out and cry boo-hoo. I can’t tolerate people who try to get by in life without having anything to contribute.

Poggle, it is hard to prove something. I find it almost impossible to prove that a man who sat in church for 20 years while the pastor bashed America and said AIDS was invented to kill the black man did not in fact know that such speeches took place in services. I also find it impossible for a man to not be associated with a terrorist who claims that “hey, I was 8 at the time, I didn’t know” to not have 1, just 1, person pull them to the side and suggest that hrm…this guy bombed the Pentagon and a police station and isn’t remorseful. I have to wonder about a person who doesn’t have someone to have their back or give them a heads-up when something isn’t quite right.Hell, Charles Manson could be paroled tommorow. I wasn’t even born when those people were killed. Guess what, I wouldn’t associate myself with him at all. A third point of many..I especially would find it hard to prove that a man was in fact well aware of who and what ACORN is/does. So what if I worked for them at one time. So what if I gave them a couple 100 grand for “services” So what, I tried to get them an additional 25 billion dollars from the recent 750 billion dollar. So what if ACORN registered untold numbers of “votes” on my behalf. I don’t know anything about ACORN. And you can’t prove otherwise.

GMAFB

“The National Homeownership Strategy: Partners in the American Dream” is a Clinton-era document. The National Homeownership Strategy began in 1994 when Clinton directed HUD Secretary Henry Cisneros to come up with a plan, and Cisneros convened what HUD called a “historic meeting” of private and public housing-industry organizations in August 1994. His administration went to ridiculous lengths to increase the national homeownership rate - it promoted paper-thin downpayments and pushed for ways to get lenders to give mortgage loans to first-time buyers with shaky financing and incomes. It’s clear now that the erosion of lending standards pushed prices up by increasing demand, and later led to waves of defaults by people who never should have bought a home in the first place."

There’s heaps of links, and you’re not going to read them all if I post them, but what has this got to do with Obama? I mentioned it before because I get sick of democrats always blaming Bush for everything, when they’ve had the majority in Senate and House for the last 2 years and have done nothing about it.

Just look on the internet, all Obama’s connections are clearly documented, what is the point of getting me to repeat them again - you have absolutely no intention of checking them out for yourself or you would have done so already. The point is moot - Obama supporters think Obama is not a socialist and refuse to even check out his shady background for yourself, and nothing anyone says or does and no amount of proof will convince you otherwise, even when Obama says it himself! That much has been clearly and repeatedly demonstrated here already. That is how a cult members respond when presented with evidence counter to their claims too, strangely enough.

I wish I was wrong about Obama, because it looks like he’s going to win, but all the evidence and HIS OWN WORDS say otherwise. The USA and the freedoms and Constitution it is based on are soon to cease to exist. You vote for the socialist republic of america, that’s what you’re going to get. As for Obama’s tax plan, it’s a ill-conceived welfare plan:

How about Obamas 95% tax break? Or is it… have a read:

Obama is promoting a 90day foreclosure moratorium. Hillary Clinton proposed the same thing last January, and Obama said it would be disastrous.

<LINK_TEXT text=“http://agonist.org/tina/20080221/hillar … e_remedies”>http://agonist.org/tina/20080221/hillary_vs_obama_foreclosure_remedies</LINK_TEXT>

and what happens on day91? Nothing’s changed, it’s just free rent for 3 months for irresponsible people.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. Obama wants to eliminate the 401(k) withdrawal penalty for 2 years! People borrowed against the equity in their houses to fund things they couldn’t afford and look what happened. Now Obama wants them to do the same with their 401(k)? This will wreck their retirement savings in the long term, and those who are responsible and don’t draw on it will end up subsidizing the others (spread the wealth, remember), and additionally a mass of people withdrawing on 401(k) will force a mass stock sell-off, which again will send the markets and the economy into a nosedive. Again, the responsible people will be left to pay for it.

This is all socialism 101. You are rewarded for not working and being irresponsible, and penalized for working hard, saving, and being successful. It has been tried many times in world history, and failed every time. But you want to vote for it.

Go look up Obama’s associations yourself, I’m too disgusted to read through that again. I don’t see much point continuing with this. It will not matter what proof you have, you will continue to deny it. That much is blatantly clear from Juggleblood’s responses.

Freedom from being wiretapped w/o a warrant?

Freedom from being put away w/o a trial?

Freedom to make my own choices about my body?

Freedom to carry my handgun for personal protection? -

oh wait already lost those…

Got pulled over the other day and first thing I told the cop was I have a permit for personal protection and my weapon was in my center console of the car. Before I could blink I was jerked out of my vehicle and searched by one officer while another went through my car looking for “stuff”. After not finding any “stuff”, other than my glock, I was asked to produce my permit and on doing so was given a warning for running a yellow light and told to have a nice day.

[b:i7olmdzp]Listen, if you [i:i7olmdzp]want[/i:i7olmdzp] socialism, then just say so, and we’ll have nothing more to argue about.[/b:i7olmdzp] That I can accept and respect. It’s the complete denial of facts that are right in front of your face that I’ve had a problem with.[/quote:i7olmdzp]

Do I want this thing weasel calls socialism? No. I want this thing Obama calls democracy.

My feeling toward the government is that it should work. And it should leave me the hell alone as long as I’m out here working my butt off and feeding my kids. I’m not giving Obama a green light to implement some kind of ideology that requires my participation in any way. If anything, they need to be helping my ass, getting houses fixed up and insulated. If they want anything from me, they know where to find me. I’m here in my house with my gun and my dog.

I just want you to admit that the Republican party is a joke and so is candidate McCain and Palin.

Edit: I feel your pain Todd. This summer I was accused of stealing gutters, of stealing copper, and questioned in the disappearance of my roommate who had only been missing 8 hours. My best friend was accosted in a canoe and searched even tho he had a fishing license and life jacket. You are guilty until proven innocent in Indiana.

And what would that achieve? It wont change what Obama represents. McCain has almost destroyed the Republican party, and again I will say I am no McCain fan - I don’t think I have said otherwise. If I had a choice, it would be neither McCain nor Obama, but realistically that is all there is to choose from. For me this is not a matter of choosing the best candidate, but eliminating the worst of the two candidates. That would be Obama in my book.

Sorry, but Obama is for [i:gkobmdmx]bigger[/i:gkobmdmx] government, so don’t count on them leaving you alone. I won’t go into detail, but about that gun - Obama rarely gives a straight answer to any question, and his stance on gun control is no exception. His past voting shows he is against gun ownership (despite it being a Constitutional Right). He [i:gkobmdmx]does[/i:gkobmdmx] give some fluff about making sure there are areas (national parks?) set aside for hunters (and anglers too), but he is against any guns within city limits, and unclear beyond that - I’m guessing he’s against guns anywhere if he wont give a straight answer. It’s not a big issue to me, but it may be for you since you mentioned it. This is not meant as an insult, but you actually sound like a Republican in that paragraph, strangely enough. If I had read that and nothing else from you, I would’ve assumed you were voting against Obama. Go figure.

Here’s a link on his gun control policies, see if you can figure out how it effects you.

[url:gkobmdmx]http://www.ontheissues.org/Celeb/Barack_Obama_Gun_Control.htm[/url:gkobmdmx]

Yeah, but where do you get your information about what Obama represents? Do you really believe Fox News is fair and balanced? Do you really think people like Lou Dobbs on CNN are real journalists? Your commie pinko rhetoric that you like to paint Obama with is just silly.

Just edited my last comment, including adding a link if that helps. As for the media.. wouldn’t trust them as far as I could spit ’em most of the time. The bulk of the MSM is clearly pro-Obama, with a few exceptions who find going against the tide equals controversy and therefor bigger ratings. Generally speaking, their motivation is neither truth nor responsible reporting, but whatever generates the most attention. That’s just my opinion though.

I try to look at various sources and look for hard evidence or at least corroboration from more trustworthy sources. Also voting records are good, professional interpretations of policies from non-partisan sources etc. Even professional affiliations I have like the AICPA often prove a good source.

Weasel you give the Bush Administration a free pass on its socialst actions, so your argument about Obama being one goes no-where.

Other than hating democrats I dont see your point. If you really hated socialism, you would be showing disgust to both parties. Including recent socialist actions taken by the Bush Administration on banks and bailouts. Corporate welfare. Its free market capitalism and deregulation….oh until the rich banking buddies need a government bailout at taxpayer expense. To hell with that.

So really you wore out liberal, so now you use socialist.

Turn of Rush Limbaugh and think for yourself. Limbaugh is total poison. That is no way means like and vote for Obama. But damit you dont make much sense other than spouting right-wing trash talking points.

I used to enjoy being a fiscal moderate Republican. Those days are gone. I registered Independent now. The Republican party has gone hard right, and left the moderates to fend for themselves. Neo-Conservatives dominate the party policies.

Thus you are seeing why McCain is getting his ass kicked in the polls. You cant win a major election without the centrist/moderate voters. There are not enough votes on the right or the left. Obama has done a better job of connecting with moderates, and thus is getting their support across the entire country. Obama gets my vote this year. Good luck cleaning up Bush’s mess.

so what do you think obama is going to to socialize the country?

nationalize the banks? oh wait done already.

nationalize health care system? oh wait both parties support that

nationalize the housing market? nope, that’s the McCain plan, to bailout the mortgage loans directly.

create work programs? I hope so.

nationalize education? Bush already pinned school funding to school performance and doubled the size of the dept of education

make college available for all? we already give out student loans to anyone who wants one.

make military service mandatory? doubt it. good luck with that.

increase welfare handouts? probably, but we’ll probably be in double digit inflation after this 2.2 trillion dollars of bad debt the gov is buying. Any increase in welfare is going to be less than the inflated cost of living.

Shrink military spending? I hope so.

A good first start by any government would be to confiscate pooka’s glock. Do you trust a necro with a hand gun?… I sure don’t. That’s got Socibamacainrepdem stamped all over it… and we know what that means… no almonds in the fridge.

Weasel you give the Bush Administration a free pass on its socialst actions, so your argument about Obama being one goes no-where. [/quote:30ftjoqi]

Are you serious? For a start, Bush will be gone shortly, so ranting about him is pointless. AGAIN you conveniently forget that the Senate and House have been Democrat majority for the last 2 years. All these bailouts are sponsored by Democrats, pushed through by Democrats, and approved by the Democrats in a Congress that is a Democrat majority. If you want to [i:30ftjoqi]blame[/i:30ftjoqi] someone for these socialist bailouts, then put the blame where it belongs - with the Democrats. What part of that is so hard to understand? The evidence could not be more clear.

This is not a case of wearing out liberal and using socialist instead.. damn is that the only argument you could come up with? Really grasping at straws in your denial. Democrat party is liberal, that is what it calls itself. Obama is socialist, that is what I call him and so do many others, because he clearly is. I call it how I see it. If you can’t even get past that, then there is little point continuing.

FYI I have not watched or heard Rush Limbaugh for at least 6 months, and before that very rarely. I just don’t. Sorry if I don’t fit your stereotype. ONCE AGAIN I am having to explain to you that I am not pro McCain. WHY IS THIS SO HARD FOR YOU TO UNDERSTAND? Actually I know why. You keep trying to classify me as some right-wing nut so you can feel happy saying “Oh, he’s just some far right-wing trash” and then you can go on happily ignoring the socialist facts about Obama. Clearly it bothers you that I don’t fit in that cubbyhole since I am not pro McCain, and that is what makes you so angry. God forbid you should actually look at the facts and think for yourself though.

This is pointless.

I’m going to try very hard not to respond to this thread any more. I can’t guarantee I wont, but I’ll try. The reason is simple: futility. I’ve tried to present what is wrong with Obama. You have failed to refute those points or barely even address them, but rather just ignore and deflect onto Bush or call me names or go on some other tangent - anything rather than deal with the issues. I sincerely hope things don’t turn out the way I fear they will with Obama as POTUS, but I’m not holding my breath on that one. If that’s the bed you want to sleep in without at least checking it out for bugs first, then good luck to you. Just don’t say you weren’t warned.

Dude, yes it is futile to try to change people’s minds if they’re set on something.

…which is why I have only participated in this thread to the extent of correcting things that were obviously false or flawed.

I suppose it seems like I’m in opposition to you, but it’s really only that you post the most by far….and you don’t seem to fact check much.

When you are referring to these democrat sponsored bailouts…are you referring to the Paulson Plan (aka original bailout bill, aka EESA) by any chance?

The Republican Secretary of the Treasury Henry Paulson?

(he’s a very democrat)

by the way, hi

Rebog has the best post in this in thread.

Unfortunately, this is become a recurring theme in the not-so-distant future. You will have 4-5 officers show up at YOUR HOME and ask to practice a random search of it for guns. Should you refuse, you will give just cause and they will procurr a warrant and search it anyways, possibly arresting you in the process. Yeah, i’m an Alex Jones junkie.

Overall, while I am an optimist, the next 10-15 years are rather bleak. And that’s at best, I get depressed when I think about how bad it “can”

get. Fortunately, we do love in a great country and should any one person

should try to “impose” a total new way of life for all..well..I’m sure someone will step up to the plate and “correct” the problem. These things have a way of working themselves out.

Trouble is, it’s not only one person. Democracy only protects freedom until you get the first fascist in power, then good luck using a vote to maintain (or restore) your civil liberties.

They’re already preparing to use the military to respond to whatever the president decides to define as “terrorism”. And you can be sure they’ll go through the confiscation (after registration of course) of firearms before suppression of civil liberties becomes overt enough to push a significant fraction of the population to believe that direct resistance is needed.

It’s hard to imagine somewhere like the US turning into the next in a long line of fascist states. But all the signs point to a government determined to slowly increase its grip on the lives and freedoms of its people. There’s no reason to assume they want anything less than total control.

There will be no outside influences to stop it either, the UN won’t stand up to the US and the UK is even further down this road, along with the other potential world powers.

In the end, power does corrupt. And IMO very, very few leaders wouldn’t create a totalitarian state if they thought they could get away with it.

First of all a car and a home are 2 totally different birds. The cops can pretty much do anything they want to you while you are in your car. Your home is another thing all together. There is no way under the current law that they will be able to obtain a just warrant for a home search refusal. Especially random. They will have to make up a bogus domestic call to your home or possibly a fake burglary in progress. Or they can just get DNR to send a forest ranger to your home for supposed poaching. One of these 3 things will allow them to come in to your home for “probable cause”. However they aren’t going to be able to make up bogus claims for everyone.

The problem lies with this. Many people don’t take lightly to anyone, including the cops, just busting into their homes. Cops will get shot which will do one of two things. If successful they will use the media to portray guns as the horrible things and try to make these decent homeowners look like vile criminals. If they get that done then guns go away. Otherwise people start to get wary of the law and the govt. They start tightening their belts and getting ready for their house to be next. Then the govt has a big problem. There might be plenty of tax revenue but there is no way in hell they have enough people to enforce something like this.

The only way I see it as a possibility is this scenario. President declares martial law due to some “terrorist” or otherwise incident. Martial law would allow the military to be used against civilians. Systematically they go through the cities first, leaving the country side for last. Then eventually you got a war like Afghanistan except its a redneck in the smoky mountains that just wants to keep his pistol.

You make valid points however,

With the current database of gunowners..once you are ordered to surrender your weapons within a given time frame, you then go onto a separate list. Most people are sheep and will gladly( and out of fear) turn in their weapons under a false promise of being returned later. Those who don’t give up so easily, who are now on a second list, will in fact, have officers coming to their place of residence and demand for said gun owner to comply immediately or be arrested. If homeowner states gun has been stolen etc..he must immediately have home searched. This has already been loosely passed within past few years. Too tired tonite to list sources but give me a few days..I’ll gladly post links.

[quote:jilhqvw4]Then eventually you got a war like Afghanistan except its a redneck in the smoky mountains that just wants to keep his pistol.[/quote:jilhqvw4]

Well, not only. I don’t even own a gun although I do have a license…If NObama wins the election then I most definitely will be making my first purchase. Oh.. and I live surburbs of Atlanta.

hmm. Your word against half a dozen cops saying you gave probable cause for entry.. sorry, you lose. And don’t think the president doesn’t have the power to ’temporarily’ waive Constitutional Rights - we’ve already seen it with the Patriot Act.

Think.

I’ve never been an “American Basher” (I’m still not) in fact I’ve been pro America when it’s come to world politics and stuff. But I’m sorry to say, after analysing this thread, your countries ideals are a sorry pile of crap. It seems everyone is trying to exercise there free right to do anything they want (within reason), and they wonder why the heck they hack so many people off in the process. Go figure…

Maybe if you addressed the real issues of selfishness and greed… people wouldn’t feel they had to exercise there rights all the time… and less people would get hacked off… You talk about your RIGHTS? That’s exactly whats making the problems worse! You’ve all become so divided cause your all acting in your own RIGHTS and self interest, which always rips someone else off, and it’s tearing your country apart. It’s a vicious cycle!

One man steals,

Another man puts him in jail,

So the other man arms himself,

So another man arms himself against those armed…

It just goes on and on and on… all because selfish people believe in exercising there rights. It’s a question of morality… and that’s your real problem… Until people are prepared to put others first, and it starts with you as an individual - exercising your rights only adds to problems. You can’t have a free America when your all exercising your rights on everyone else.

[img:12hheb3c]http://www.bloops.org/images/weasel_stfu_1.jpg[/img:12hheb3c]

[img:2upq3e7f]http://revistes.upc.es/wiki/images/f/f2/Rofl-mao.jpg[/img:2upq3e7f]

Oh of course, all the problems are caused by the fact that people have rights. Everything would work so much better if people would just stop going on about “freedom of expression”, “habeas corpus”, “right to self-defence” and all the other silly little things enshrined in the foundation laws of free nations.

I’m sure there are plenty of examples of nations throughout history that restricted actions and speech to maintain perfect order. United under the flag of progress and equality, where no one was selfish or greedy enough to want to gain more than anyone else, and the people who decided what was acceptable and what wasn’t were incorruptible and perfect. Oh wait…

[/sarcasm]

Yeah my comment was idealistic… but just because idealism is unobtainable is no excuse to settle for the “lowest common denominator” crap.

And exercising rights over people works at all levels… In America people might be able to do it over each other by law in situations… in China the government does it over it’s people… and in that way they have things in common… greed and selfishness seeking to dominate others through control. Its the same monster with a different head.

The monster isn’t “rights” as such, but that can be a symptom… the real monster is selfishness, control and greed. More rights won’t stop it, because man’s greed and selfishness will always abuse it. Whether it be governments, people or organization at any level.

The only thing that properly counters greed, selfishness and control is actually morality… Rights is about Power, Morality is about love for one another… And any man with a brain can surely figure out that love is often about giving up your rights your the betterment of others.

I’m sure the people of North Korea would disagree. I don’t think they had a choice of giving up their rights for the betterment of their fellow man. It was “coaxed” out of them . Better to die standing than living on your knees.

Point of View… Tap…

In there case it’s the government that’s not giving up there rights to control and manipulate things. Sure it’s not working, the general population made the sacrifice of there rights, however, the power that comes from laying down there rights has been collected and abused by a corrupt few in government.

Sure the people are worse off, [b:2fxfx5mu]but it’s because an elite few running the country did not make the same sacrifice.[/b:2fxfx5mu] So once again it’s greed and selfishness at the base of the problem.

In communism greed and power works out in totalitarianism, in capitalism it works out through rights and legislation. Both systems become corrupted by greed and selfishness, but the out workings are different.

Power and Love (concern for your others) are opposites… there is a saying, he who loves the least, has the most power. Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Communism is idealistic, and so anyone who is selfish and greedy can abuse the morality given to him by those not exercising there power. It’s why communism can so easily be corrupted, yet idealistically is morally perfect.

It’s a case of sliding measures. Communism/Capitalism they fall down because of people’s greed and selfishness. There needs to be a balance struck that can only be achieved by EVERYONE saying, I will put the interests of my fellow man first. (Moralism) If everyone had that “attitude” … end of problems. Idealistic… never going to happen… but hey just illustrating the point the real failings of humanity is how he treats others… and he is far too concerned with himself.

And we see this in America in a different way, by how everyone is concerned with THERE rights, before giving a crap about anyone elses. Iraq, Oil, Human rights… I don’t need to go on.

[img:1oloa8mt]http://www.punchlinemagazine.com/uploads/images/comedians/Ron%20White/RonWhite_Mid.jpg[/img:1oloa8mt]

Having “rights” and being greedy and/or mean to other people are totally unrelated. Was Martin Luther King Jr. showing love or anger when he protested for blacks to receive the same “rights” as whites? Your looking at this all backwards. You fail to understand that the common denominator in corrupt governments is currency and the military power the currency gives to said leaders. All forms of government have positive and negative aspects. There can never be a perfect system as long as humans are involved.

That being said. The problem with America is not the idea of a federal republic with a vote for all. The problem is with the big business(oil, bank, pharmaceuticals) corrupting the law with money. It is not capitalism per say, but the loopholes that allow money to control everything. You need to remember that many politicians were first lawyers. They work ways to trick us into rooting for something that they know in the end will hurt us. Meanwhile they make profits.

Now I am not against making profits, but when your profiteering is breaking the backs of everyone else then yes it is wrong. But there is nothing wrong with wanting to work hard and having something nice for yourself. If you give to someone who doesn’t work as hard, or can’t work as hard that is your business. If you want to work an extra 5 hours a week to support a homeless person then go right ahead. The problem is that the politicians that are in favor of taking your money and giving it to someone else have created tax loopholes and things like trusts to hide their millions. So they don’t care about spending your money, but you damn sure know they don’t want you touching theirs.

Rights are not the problem. Ignorance is. America has been very short sighted in the last 30 years. We don’t teach our kids the values your talking of. It has all become about who can get the most. I personally don’t live this way, but I never had it easy. Working for me is just something I have to do to support my family. I am not worried whether or not the Mercedes is going to get repo’d because I wouldn’t want one if I could afford it. I bought a 50k house even though the bank said I could borrow up to 200k. My fixed mortgage never fluctuated during the bank crisis. All the good decisions that I make are swept under the table by the government helping the bastard people who live on credit. The government is now bailing these people out. Positive reinforcement for people to be dependent. The governments position is clear. Make us dependent.

BTW I am damn sick of having to relog in after 5 min writing a post.

There was an interesting book by a reputable historian a while back called the Triumph of Conservatism in which he demonstrated that early in the history of corporate america, it was the companies themselves clamoring to be regulated and sponsoring major legislation. But one can see now where this eventually ends up, when the companies get too accustomed to writing their own rules.

Yeah, what I’ve said about rights has been quite confusing because rights is amoral… Rights can be good AND bad… so it’s confuses what I’ve said.

What I’ve been trying to point out is that some rights and freedoms people are asking for, just seem to be a license for being even more self centered and greedy. You begin to sense an attitude of selfishness when people start talking about there rights all the time. Makes me think… hey is this just for you mate, or are you thinking of everyone else. There’s a huge difference between the man who fights for his own rights and the man that fights for the rights of others, and by the means he employees to get those rights.

I wouldn’t say it’s just money that corrupts politicians, I’d call it greed. Some people want power over others just as much as money. You could argue that money IS power over others… but still even say at your work… there are always those people that like to have power over other people. Insecure and controlling types. I think at the root of power is often greed… and it manifests in multiple forms.

I like to think true power is actually the opposite of how we see it in the world… it’s in words such as grace, humbleness, meekness, tolerance… stuff like that… You can’t fake it, and it’s a far harder journey to achieve.

I don’t think human beings are any more or less greedy than they were 10k years ago.

The right likes to say that this mess was caused by greed, when in reality it was poor leadership and short-sighted thinking.

I don’t think human beings are any more or less greedy than they were 10k years ago.[/quote:21lfm2fy]

I think this a bit short sighted. I see progress in every generation. Whether the progress is against racism, sexism, bigotry or greed. Sure we go through bad phases and yes it is a direct result of weak leadership. However overall people have evolved quite a bit in the last 10k years. The main problem is that the government teaches us to be dependent, which is exclusive of a free society.

I’m no US-citizen, nor am i pro or anti USA.

however, I think most of the problems if american society is the misconstrued idea of “rights”. Blame the smarty pants who decided to name that silly document the “bill of rights”. ok before you start slagging me off, I’m not bashing anyone.

People need to differentiate between “rights” and “privileges”. I think the only rights human beings have is the right to equality, and the right to survive. Owning a handgun isn’t a right, it’s a privilege. Being able to speak freely without fear of persecuation is a right. Being able to live without fear of oppression is a right. Beating the crap out of anyone who calls your mom isn’t a right.

People may argue that most crimes are committed with illegal firearms anyway. I won’ta rgue with the fact. Why stop at firearms then? hell give us all a nuclear warhead so we can nuke the adjacent neighborhood full of junkies.

I admire the panache with which most of you argue about domestic politics. I only wish half the people in my country had that much passion about the government. I guess that’s the difference between our cultures. We sacrifice our own liberties/privileges for a comfortable life, as opposed to sacrificing rights of others so that you can boast to be a proud american.

So should the government make guns illegal? How about knives? How about self defense? Should Kung Fu be illegal? Someone could use it to hurt someone else…

honestly at this point, whether or not society has guns makes no difference

the culture of solving problems via violence and the “bigger man wins” mentality has negated any form of social etiquette or social being.

I don’t even want to argue about it anymore…it’s ironic that the US government gets their pubes in a bunch when other countries arm themselves….

until people can see that arming civilians is hardly a solution to unlawfulness, then society can go to hell

Ok, if you insist.

Privileges? A privilege is something given to you by someone who has control over your life, and by extension, your freedom. A child is given privileges by their parents. An adult human doesn’t need to be given the “privilege” of freedom.

It’s impossible to regulate the ability to commit a crime. Without actual mind control, no one can ever stop someone who is determined to do so. Say one person (secretly) intends to murder another, it simply isn’t possible to stop them attempting it, no matter what objects you deny them possession of.

The ongoing problem of crime is merely a smokescreen to use as an excuse for ever tightening controls on our day to day lives.

[b:146tyjl4]Why stop at firearms then? hell give us all a nuclear warhead so we can nuke the adjacent neighborhood full of junkies.[/b:146tyjl4]

I admire the panache with which most of you argue about domestic politics. I only wish half the people in my country had that much passion about the government. I guess that’s the difference between our cultures. We sacrifice our own liberties/privileges for a comfortable life, as opposed to sacrificing rights of others so that you can boast to be a proud american.[/quote:146tyjl4]

So should the government make guns illegal? How about knives? How about self defense? Should Kung Fu be illegal? Someone could use it to hurt someone else…[/quote:146tyjl4]

Technological development will one day reach the point where it would be technically and economically feasible for significant portions of the private population to purchase or fund the creation of their own private nuclear weapons, provided that the right to do so is not restricted by government.

Given that the constitutional argument against gun control refers to an amendment that gives the people the unqualified right to “keep and bear arms”, it seems as though anyone using that amendment as their argument must either accept that nuclear weapons should also be legal for unrestricted private use, or qualify their interpretation of that amendment with some guiding principle that distinguishes nuclear weapons from firearms.

I think it’s pretty safe to conclude that the line should be drawn somewhere.

Bringing nuclear weapons into a discussion over the second amendment (and equivalent laws) is a clear strawman argument.

No one is saying that we should be able to buy any of the other weapons with no use outside of the battlefield either. There’s landmines, cluster bombs, mortars, missiles armed with conventional warheads, anti-missile weapons, and more, have you ever heard an advocate for gun-owner’s rights demand the public sale of any of those things?

if freedom is a fundamental right, etc etc, then there really isn’t a need for a “bill of rights” is there?

since it pretty much “limits” your rights

Every man, no matter the nationality, should have the right to defend themselves. Think of all the killings that have occurred because someone didn’t have a right to protect themselves. I live by a simple rule, don’t Fck with anyone - don’t take no sht from anyone. Live and let live for all you kiddies out there.I would agree that their should be a limit of what type of gun one should be allowed to have according to the times at hand. I would not want my neighbor owning a machine gun BUT should the time come when he needed it.. I would be glad he had one to help protect me and vice-versa. I dunno…in these trying time and the way everything seems to be going to shit at an ever=increasing rate, I am both saddened and somewhat comforted that just perhaps…the good Lord is getting ready to make an appearance.

Somewhere around Nov. 14, the U.S. and several other countries are meeting to discuss the impending global financial crisis. Already, most are calling for a new 1 world global currency to help reset the problem.

Bringing nuclear weapons into a discussion over the second amendment (and equivalent laws) is a clear strawman argument.

You’re right there, I misunderstood your meaning. I guess I’ve heard the similar-sounding argument that uses nuclear weapons as an shot against the right to keep weapons in general one too many times to take it objectively.

As for an actual answer to your question, I don’t have a definitive one. The only thing I can think to say here is that this kind of question is why we need governments that we can trust to not try to slowly strip away our freedoms. If it is even possible for one to exist.

it is. just requires constant vigilance. I wish our system had more mechanisms by which the legislative branch could constrain the power of the executive.

Edit: what do you guys think will happen to the Republican party? I’m thinking it’s going to fracture as the moderate fiscal conservatives pull away from the religious fundamentalists. This might pave the way for a real multi-party system, instead of the existing 2 party paradigm. It’ll be so surreal to see a unified democratic government and a fractured multi-party right. Who woulda thunk it.

I’m reminded of the story of the woman who helped a snake across the river and later was bit and as she was dying asked,“Why did you bite me?” to which the snake replied," I’m a snake, what did you expect?"

Ultimately, I don’t think that Obama winning will be the end of the world. I do however think anything that happens to him while in office will result in a powder keg that will set this country back 100 years. I also foresee alot more protesting going on that will ultimately be squelched by teh Fairness Doctrine to keep the bulk of the country unaware of what exactly is going on. With the press having it’s head up Obama’s ass, it will be easy to keep the facts away from the popluation with mis-propaganda.

Oh…if Obama somehow receives a head wound and manages to make a miraculous recovery that “WOW’s the world…..then…ahh nvm

Yeah, I reckon if Obama gets taken out by some one while he’s president we will see scenes like the LA riots all over again, and this time throughout the entire country. There will be burning, looting and murder. The world will stand by and marvel at the hypocrisy of what America stood for, and what happens in there own back yard. There is a keg, and it’s only a matter of time before somehow it explodes… all it needs is some event, some ignition point… KABOOM!

if Obama gets elected and shot it will make Detroit and Oakland in the 60s

While this might be true the sad fact is that they will burn down their own neighborhoods, then cry about not being able to eat because the store is in rubble. Mobs and riots have never proved anything except that the government needs stronger measures against said riots…. This will only speed up the current nanny state mentality.

Let ’em riot - heck, Philly just had riots complete with overturned and burned out vehicles, because they [i:1v4sk0w4]won[/i:1v4sk0w4] the world series. Classy town. Any excuse.

I heard 2 overturned vehicles. Didn’t hear about the fire. As far as riots go, I’m unimpressed.

So weasel, looking like Obama’s won… Any comment…? I want to see what kind of a sore loser you are… Maybe his bags are already packed to head back to NZ!

(Bracing for the inevitable flames)

Now that it looks like Osama … err Obama has won, better get ready to say goodbye to the 2nd amendment. Also, get ready to say hello to higher crime rates and as funny as it sounds animal overpopulation, leading to more animal attacks on people and more property damage. Because when our guns get taken away, there goes a big part of our capacity to control predatory animals and animals such as deer that love to wander onto the highway and cause accidents.

And before anyone comments, no I don’t own a gun, but I firmly believe it is every American’s right to own one if they choose.

OK I’ve had my $ .02 worth, flame away

If you can’t have a gun… and they can’t have a gun either… how do you get shot?

First off I didn’t say criminals would have guns, there’s all kinds of crimes that are prevented by potential victims having guns and their attackers not.

Second, if it became a crime to have a gun, law abiding citizens would turn in their guns, but criminals wouldn’t. Hence the saying, “If it becomes criminal to have a gun, only criminals will have guns.”

The more you give into fear, the more it overtakes you.

So you buy a gun… but what if the other guy has a minigun… what if yours jams? where does it stop? The argument that everyone having guns makes for a safer society is complete nonsense… If no one had guns, no one can get shot. The gun argument only has logic because of fear…

If you haven’t noticed… every country wants nuke’s these days, because another country can nuke them… where does it end? Find some peace in your self. It’s a vicious cycle dude… jump off the merry go round.

What makes me kinda think about the country we live in, is everyone is saying

Black this, black that. Did everyone forget he is also 1/2 white? What

if he was only 1/4 black? Would this country still say he is the first black

this and that? Its really sad that ppl think that way.

All I say is, who cares. Bush already pucked this country and guess what …

he is WHITE!!!

So weasel, looking like Obama’s won… Any comment…? I want to see what kind of a sore loser you are… Maybe his bags are already packed to head back to NZ![/quote:t20dewi5]

It’s been looking like he was going to win from the start. I was hoping it wouldn’t happen, but it did. I don’t think it will be safe to make comments against Obama in the future, and perhaps I should go and delete all my previous comments for that reason? Congrats to those who support him, the margins he won by look like they exceed all the fraudulent votes, so he’s in at the will of the people.. or at the will of the media more accurately LOL. I guess time will reward you appropriately. Good luck.

If you can’t have a gun… and they can’t have a gun either… how do you get shot?[/quote:17ys1i9q]

LOL come live in NYC where guns are illegal. Almost every criminal has one anyway, and the only difference is that law-abiding people have no means to defend themselves.

So when you pull a gun on a crook, you don’t get shot and he puts his weapon down right?

Don’t use this recent trend of universal ‘political correctness’ as an excuse to asuage your constitutional rights, INCLUDING the right to protect yourself with a firearm. Everyone who just voted for this guy basically bent over and gave their asses away–and thats what he will do to the first country that wants to take it! As far as the right to bear arms, I dont need a piece of paper to tell me its common sense to keep someone else from causing me physical harm or worse! Get real, do you HONESTLY think the police are going to be there for you at a moments notice? Do you think they are your personal body guards with NOTHING to do but make sure no one attacks you?

“Do you live in fear? Are you afraid of trouble?”

No, I live in common sense. I’m also NOT afraid that my house will burn down, but I have several fire extinguishers in my house–and they are loaded too!

If I were worried about REAL trouble, I’d carry a bazooka..

I’m really tired of this ‘punish the whole class for one screw up’ mentality.

I don’t care how ‘modern’ or cutting-edge you believe your thoughts are, or how politically correct it would be, or how your hollow empty idealistic expectations ‘fit’ into a corporate scenario….stop handing your freedoms over(all of them, not just the 2nd amendment) in the hopes that it will get ‘better’…its not, and those who just put this guy in office will have their jaws hitting the floor in about 6 months, when he pulls one over on us…

As far as personal protection, remember this:

When SECONDS count…the cops are only MINUTES away…

Well, as Mencken said, Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard.

Get ready for some Democracy folks, it’s best to just lie back and try to enjoy it…

So, if someone doesn’t believe that people having weapons with which to defend themselves reduces crime, but also isn’t naive enough to believe that outlawing guns will stop criminals having them, what reason do they have to back gun control?

Apparently those of us who want to defend ourselves do it out of fear. But I’d be more inclined to say that gun control advocates hold their views out of a general fear of guns. At least that is the only reason I can come up with that doesn’t involve direct insults to their intelligence.

And just because I can’t resist addressing some comments someone further down the thread made, even if we pretend that Arnold Schwarzenegger films accurately portray reality and ignore the fact that miniguns are not hand held weapons (perhaps it was an exaggeration to make a point), I’d rather have a normal small weapon to defend myself than nothing.

Chances are your gun won’t jam at the very moment that it can save your life by firing. Unless the cartridge misfires you’re pretty much guaranteed one shot, and you can always get a revolver or breach loading rifle/shotgun if you’re really worried.

Finally, in general, the world is a safer place for many nations having nuclear weapons. If only one has them, you have an invincible world power. If two have them, you end up with more instances of the Cold War. Although even in the Cold War they were useful, without nuclear weapons to give both sides a compelling reason to avoid open conflict, it would have likely been a lot worse. Obviously the best situation in the long run would probably be no one having any, but that just isn’t going to happen.

Yes, the sheeple have spoken.

From a republican perspective, one positive thing about this election is finally democrats will only have themselves to blame for the next four years. And I imagine with Barrack’s policies, there will be a lot of blaming going on.

Sad thing is, most people I know who voted for Barrack did so because he stands for “hope, change, and not Bush!”. Barrack’s people certainly get A’s for their marketing campaign.

I wonder when people will realize that Barrack can’t walk on water…

Yeah, weapons have definitely made the world a safer place. You’ve convinced me, actually, I might start carrying grenades now… I mean have to look out for number one and all, and because I’m right who gives a stuff about anyone else… I’m just so glad we have invented all these thousands of new ways to kill each other to make the world safer. Maybe if we invent an even bigger killer, yeah, the world will be definitely safer, cause man has shown so much responsibility to use these things wisely… I mean these people deserved it. We were just protecting ourselves… and we were right don’t forget… Unfortunate that they got in the way, but who really gives a stuff.

You make me really angry… I’m in half a mind to do a weasel.

My opinions:

Violence, murder, armed robbery - these things aren’t going to go away by banning firearms. What you really need is violence control.

You reduce violence by restricting gun sales to criminals or the mentally ill, and punishing those who inflict harm on others.

You don’t punish people if they haven’t performed a crime, and don’t plan to. Restricting sales of firearms makes sense, banning firearms does not.

I’m not a doctor, but the people in those images don’t look like they were wounded by firearms.

I really do fail to see how burns victims relate to gun control, or the lack of.

Edit: Thought to check the filenames.

The first is linked from a page that in turn links the image to a news page about looting in Iraq. The image doesn’t appear on the linked page and it seems to be without context on the page it’s pulled from.

The second image seems to be of someone exposed to white phosphorus, hardly a consumer self-defence weapon.

The third one appears to be a victim of radiation burns after the Hiroshima bombing. Must every conversation about gun control eventually involve nuclear weapons?

Arguments that rely on provoking an emotional response rarely hold water.

Oh that’s just lame! All violence is from the same prevailing attitude in man.

I’m out of this argument, you know you can’t win when you get lame come backs like that. Humanity couldn’t give a stuff about these people enough to let them live… so he wasn’t shot by a gun… grow a heart. It’s ignorant and careless attitudes like that, that let these things happen, all the while making the lamest selfish excuses.

Well, we’re willing to think about it, at least.

I own guns, but I didn’t shoot any of those people. I’ve never shot any person, or animal. So, should someone take away my guns because someone out there has radiation burns? Should I take away someone else’s rights because I don’t like to see people hurt either?

So there is looting in Iraq, and people are being shot. What can we do to protect those people? Give up our guns and send in unarmed soldiers?

It’s not a perfect world, we just do the best we can.

Speaking of lame=

[quote:p7y7c9vh]What makes me kinda think about the country we live in, is everyone is saying Black this, black that. Did everyone forget he is also 1/2 white?[/quote:p7y7c9vh]

Odd…the only person bringing up race is Osama and his co-horts.

More lameness=

[quote:p7y7c9vh]So when you pull a gun on a crook, you don’t get shot and he puts his weapon down right?[/quote:p7y7c9vh]

No..Mr. Crook knowing that there is NOT a gun ban might think twice before doing a home invasion. Now, home invasions happen all the time..it’s just nice knowing that if someone(s) is looking to come thugging in the middle of the night, I don’t have to rely on a butter knife to protect my righteous ass..and as pointed…if it’s 2 against 1 then I am pretty much f*cked

And now a remark regarding Joe the Weasel=

[quote:p7y7c9vh]I don’t think it will be safe to make comments against Obama in the future[/quote:p7y7c9vh]

He is already doing that and before he was elected…only now he is going to set up a network of spies to “rat” on opponents. Isn’t Socialism great?

BTW, his name is Osama.

Back to more lameness from Jezer=

[quote:p7y7c9vh]so he wasn’t shot by a gun… grow a heart. It’s ignorant and careless attitudes like that, that let these things happen, all the while making the lamest selfish excuses.[/quote:p7y7c9vh]

Hrm..You try to make an anti-gun argument using pics NOT involving gun injuries blah blah? Hrm Jezer..why don’t we ban bridges while we are at it, you know..people still jump off them.

I’ll agree with Alberich, best to sit back and watch what happens. I don’t own a gun yet but I’ve already selected several to try out and next paycheck, I’ll be making my first purchase. I hope I never have to use it, I hope that I am wrong and everyone else that Osama won’t try to ban guns even though he has suggested as much in the past. Heck, just because he said it doesn’t mean he means it…that’s democrat thinking anyways…on that train of thought I hope all those radical associtations of his are really nice people and we can all sit aroound in a circle and sing Koom-ba-Yah…it could happen..I doubt it but who knows

I think everyone understands, and very likely agrees with, the position that the world would be a better place without violence, war, and so on.

To be honest, everything you say on this subject seems to centre around the general statement that “violence is bad”. Do you really, seriously think that people who want to own weapons disagree with that statement?

Assuming that we’re more talking about their use as a means of self-defence than their use in various sports, I’m going to create a hypothetical example.

Say a murder is about to be committed by a criminal wielding a knife (not a gun). The victim is cornered, they can’t escape, and no one else is nearby. In this scenario someone is going to be killed. Would you seriously argue that if the victim were to produce a weapon and defend themselves with lethal force, they would be “not giving a stuff” or being selfish?

That isn’t rhetorical, I’m actually curious what you think.

Yes, short retirement…

But rynquald just proved my point… Once again… justification of owning weapons based solely on projected fears. Do you want to live your life under that weight? I choose not too.

There is no point owning guns, if there is no use for them. And for the gun collectors in my own extended family… I look at there lives and I see why they collect guns… sure they aren’t collected for protection or to kill others… but they too have fear in there lives… I sense insecurity and a need to be in control… owning a gun is giving this too them, it gives them there fix of importance and power.

I’m sorry but I don’t fully understand the meaning of the “short retirement” comment.

But from the next paragraph. Your argument is that any preparation for being in a situation where you need to physically defend yourself is based solely on projected fear?

These situations exist every day. While it is relatively unlikely that any given person will ever need to protect their life or the lives of their family, thousands of people are murdered or raped every year.

Of course I don’t want to live under the weight that any of this could happen to me. But the possibility exists, having the ability and the right to defend myself does not increase the chances.

In one post you complain about all the violence and death that occurs every day, while in the next you accuse the people who are concerned about it happening to them of being unduly fearful.

In one post you complain about all the violence and death that occurs every day, while in the next you accuse the people who are concerned about it happening to them of being unduly fearful.[/quote:lgduckso]

I see that “Fear is too the mind, what violence is to the body.” Both are tools that seek to bring down humanity. Same source, different out workings.

A man commiting violence acts out of fear, the man who fears opens himself up to commit violence. I don’t want either.

So maybe to put this in terms you understand. I’m stuck in a room with a man with a weapon, and he wants to hurt me… what am I saying I would do? I can’t answer that question, I could do anything, I may even “snap” - this is human… however how I would hope…

I would do all that I could to preserve my survival, while keeping the integrity of what I believe is right… there is a saying I quite like, and that I like to live by… “Don’t let me become the man, that I say that I despise.” I hope I can make it to the end of life’s journey keeping that.

I think I understand where Jezer is coming from, he wants to ban people.

:P

You do make a certain sense, and definitely have principles. I hope the same, that I can get through life without harming others.

I don’t think anyone would argue that you’re not free to make this decision for yourself, and we would respect you for standing up for these ethics.

The disagreement comes later, when we’re talking about the rights of other people. Do they have the right to make their own decision? Should we use a law to take away that right? I think, for myself to take away someone else’s ability to make decisions is to harm them. I’m content to let them make their own decisions, as long as that person doesn’t interfere with my rights.

Well I think we’ve boiled this down beyond gun politics.

If I’m getting this right, you wouldn’t use significant force to defend yourself unless you “snapped”. While on the other hand, I would.

I think people with our two viewpoints can get along, they always have before. I’m not about to criticise you for not wanting to physically protect yourself, or even for wanting to put the fact that the world isn’t a safe place out of your mind for the betterment of your life. Just don’t attempt to stop me and others from being prepared and living life our way.

I think that is the conclusion I have come to… and Avatar has eluded to as well… although we have strong viewpoints about what we think is right, and we are not afraid to point these out… we can’t justify some of the means by which our former counterparts, whose fanaticism for the same ideals, seems to have lead them to do the very type’s of things that they said they despised or out of the same heart. Hypocrisy is never far. But seems to keep it’s distance from the humble.

But rynquald just proved my point… Once again… justification of owning weapons based solely on projected fears. Do you want to live your life under that weight? I choose not too.[/quote:11r2kofg]

So I presume you recommend people should not wear a seatbelts while driving a car, because that is clearly an action based on projected fear.

Shall I continue?

LOL.

There is a point when safety becomes fear… I don’t think those things you suggested crosses the lines… although it’s a fine line. I have a strange urge to talk about Obama, why is that?

Who? What? Where?

Sorry Jezer, but no matter what your viewpoint is as far as gun control is or mine for that matter, it should send off warning bells when someone who is capable of disarming you starts making preparations to do so. If your content to try to reason with your attacker and hope for the best, good luck..I’m pretty certain it won’t pan out like you would hope. Criminals get off on fear, if they sense a weakness, they will use that to their advantage.

But beyond gun control as far as Osama is concerned, it’s just not gun control that bothers millions, count that, MILLIONS of Americans. A far number from being the “minority”. He has 5-6 quick action plans that is going to turn America on it’s head. Separately, they could be examined and debated. However as things are shaping up, the so-called “checks and balances” will go out the window…maybe not immediately but with some conservatives retiring soon…it’s going to be up in the air…Now worse case scenario, You are going to have a President with the major support of the Senate “forcing” the citizens to comply with new rules and regulations or face dire consequences. You can make the case that I am fear mongering and my only response would be..hear for yourself from Osama’s own mouth. Watch who he puts into power and see the 90 degree turn in the direction of the country…..one quick example..Osama touts he is for energy independence…then he makes a follow-up statement that while he won’t prevent companies from mining coal to convert to energy, he is going to tax them so much that they will go bankrupt.Big-mouth Biden follows up with the citizens facing the fact that all will have to pay a sharp increase in their power bill… jokes on you..where is this money going to go? Overseas

Ok, let’s look at it a different way that will maybe make more sense to you.

If you live in certain major cities, then having a gun for self-defense is a legitimate and reasonable safety precaution. If you live in some small town in the middle of nowhere and have not even needed to lock your front door for years, having a gun for self-defense reasons would probably be an indication of unreasonable fear as you said, not reasonable safety (unless there were large wild animals roaming around that had a history of attacking humans or something).

I can only assume you either don’t understand this or have not thought of this because you don’t live in an environment where the chances of being faced with violent crime is just an everyday part of life, as much as carrying an umbrella is if you live somewhere where it rains a lot. It’s not a matter of fear, it’s a matter of fact.

Your opinion is likely quite valid for your situation (whatever it may be), but you should not project that opinion on others who do not live in the same environment. Some might even consider your opinion reckless.

I can only assume you either don’t understand this or have not thought of this because you don’t live in an environment where the chances of being faced with violent crime is just an everyday part of life, as much as carrying an umbrella is if you live somewhere where it rains a lot. It’s not a matter of fear, it’s a matter of fact.[/quote:3clo3ky4]

Here we are back to the beginning… a statement eluding to the fact violent crime happens… because people have guns… and here in Australia where there are far less more guns on the street we have less violent crime as proved by some statistics I posted earlier… So why do you think carrying a gun makes it safer, that just pure stupidity! It’s because people have them it’s unsafe!

So get rid of your guns, if no one has one, no firearm crime, no need to have one, it’s really very simple.

And for the record, I’ve been assaulted twice by people demanding my watch/money. Both times without firearms, although one person faked having a knife. I haven’t armed myself just in case it happens again, although safety sense says, I’ll walk a different way, or walk with someone next time if I am in those areas.

Living with threats is life, letting it effect you, is a choice.

Hrm..you make the case as far as geography. We can all agree on that. I’d even say you were lucky that your two altercations only managed to bang you up. Personally, while we do have different points of view on gun control, I’d also be against forcing everyone to own a gun. The issue, you shouldn’t have anything “forced” on you. Forcing someone to own/not own a gun is slavery..giving them an option (with guidelines/rules) is freedom. As someone who realises just how little freedom I have, my gut feeling is even those I might be deluded into thinking I have, well maybe not so much. I’ll say it again, it’s one thing to hear it on talk radio but when you hear straight from the horses mouth, hell how can you ignore it?

:?:

So get rid of your guns, if no one has one, no firearm crime, no need to have one, it’s really very simple.[/quote:o40xbroz]

And that’s the problem. You outlaw guns [i:o40xbroz]here[/i:o40xbroz], the people who would otherwise own guns responsibly will not own them, but the criminal element who misuse guns will still have them. IF there were NO guns here whatsoever, then sure, there would be no problem and no need, but the FACT is there are guns here already, and if you outlaw them, you are (again) only taking them out of the hands of those who act responsibly, not the ones who would misuse them. You’re dealing with ideals, I’m dealing with reality. I wish things were the way you want, but they aren’t - at least not in my neck of the woods.

After saying all that, I personally do not own a gun as I have no experience with them, because I spent most of my life living in NZ where the situation is very very different, and is more like Aussie. I thought the same as you do when I lived there. I now live here, and have to adjust my attitude accordingly. We can agree to disagree if you wish, but you are projecting your values appropriate to your environment onto others where it may well be inappropriate ..weren’t you earlier speaking [i:o40xbroz]against[/i:o40xbroz] projecting?

And yes, as Tap says, gun ownership should not be a [i:o40xbroz]requirement[/i:o40xbroz], but it should remain a choice here, and that choice should remain for [i:o40xbroz]all[/i:o40xbroz], not just those who would misuse guns, which is effectively what you’d achieve by outlawing them here. The guns are already in circulation here, it’s too late to ban them.

[quote:24rhjc84]

I think I understand where Jezer is coming from, he wants to ban people.

Oh weasel :( Once again… fear of what might be… your chasing your tail, and your going around in a circle. People think the only way to solve the issue is to be like the ‘baddies’ and have guns too… it doesn’t work… you can’t kill people for morality. You can’t fart for pleasant smells.

Even on the radio at lunch… with the US Missile shield… Russia making threats, and counter arrangements, as a result of building the missile shield… to solve the problem… someone!… somewhere!… has to back down!

Idealistic? Yes!

Probably Going to happen? No!

The Right thing to do? You bet!

This seems like a good time to point out that pretty much every freedom we still have was won by people that refused to back down even when it was going to cost lives.

People think the only way to solve the issue is to be like the ‘baddies’ and have guns too…[/quote:6pjehfhb]

That statement relies on the assertion that the initial bearers of arms are “baddies” and everyone that comes after is simply being reactionary. A gun is a tool, an inanimate object, possessing one has no bearing on any moral state.

Would you have a free nation bow down to a fascist neighbour’s demands to save a war? How about if the Americans had backed down from war with the British to save lives? The American Civil War? What about the Allies in World War Two? The French resistance? And countless other wars of independence and revolutions against oppression.

Armed conflict is brutal and at the border of what we know as humanity, but it can serve a purpose. Without the willingness to kill or die for our nations and freedoms, we would at best be living in primitive anarchy, and at worst under oppressors the likes of which real history has never known.

Oh weasel :( Once again… fear of what might be… [/quote:38m1y2zu]

Dude you do not live here, I do. This is not what [i:38m1y2zu]might be[/i:38m1y2zu], this is what is. It doesn’t bother me, I don’t [i:38m1y2zu]fear[/i:38m1y2zu] it, it is what it is and I accept it as part of life and living safely - I’m not walking around in denial. If you insist on telling someone they are wrong about the place they live in, when you’ve never been there, then that is just plain ignorance or arrogance, take your pick.

“Oh Weasel..”

Keep the moral superiority tone out of it please. If you can’t handle this reality, that’s your problem.

[quote:2p6hx77i]someone!… somewhere!… has to back down![/quote:2p6hx77i]

I wonder what the world would be had everyone backed down from Hitler?

Is this your ideal Jezer?

jezer, one of our “problems” is that too many people like you think that all laws are “for our own good” without taking the time to stop and ask “when did this become a problem and why am i letting someone else think for me?”

i was born and raised right here in southeast texas - MAJOR redneck country. i was taught how to use firearms almost as soon as i was steady enough on my feet to point them at the target in my back yard. it wasn’t because i needed to “defend myself”. my family wanted me to know how to safely and properly handle a firearm. they are not only used to kill/protect other humans. we also use them to go hunting - for food.

you are not only asking me to give up a way to defend myself, my peace of mind that the gun is there in case i need it, but also a way to feed myself and my family if the need ever arose. thanks, but no thanks.

it’s closed-minded, unyielding, “government-knows-best” people like YOU, jezer, that are the threat here. not because you are breaking into my home. not because you disagree with me. it is because you are content to sit back and do nothing, thinking that the laws will protect you while you are getting robbed. i am sure that that intruder is going to wait for you to grab your phone, open it, dial 911, wait for the operator to answer, get your name and address, wait for you to state your problem and describe your intruder. HELL NO! he’s going to blow your hand off (at the least) trying to get that phone away from you. now what, dumbass? now you have no phone, you are wounded and the intruder is STILL THERE. where’s the cops then? where is your help? where is your laws to protect you? get your head out of the sand and look around you, jezer. the world is not a pretty little kindergarten classroom that eats their milk and cookies and takes a nap because teacher says so.

“now a real killer, when he picked up the zf-1, would’ve immediately asked about the little red button on the bottom of the gun.” - zorg –> the fifth element

Laws like rules only apply to those who choose to obey them or those who get caught violating them.

Obama to use executive orders for immediate impact

By STEPHEN OHLEMACHER, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON – President-elect Obama plans to use his executive powers to make an immediate impact when he takes office.John Podesta, Obama’s transition chief, said Sunday the president can use such orders to move quickly on his own.

“There’s a lot that the president can do using his executive authority without waiting for congressional action, and I think we’ll see the president do that,” Podesta said.

“Obama’s advantage of course is he’ll have the House and the Senate working with him, and that makes it easier,” said Carl Tobias, a law professor at the University of Richmond. Executive orders “have the power of law and they can cover just about anything,” Tobias said in a telephone interview.

In a completely non-related question, I will be making my first gun purchase this coming Friday. Not because I think a gun ban will soon take effect or anything, that would never happen, but I am curious as too what type of handgun I should go with. I’ve looked over a .38 special, a 9mm, a 9mm x18 which is a 9mm with a smaller bullet, and something else..just curious if anyone have one and would recommend it over another…for the record..it is strictly for defense..

Weasel your post is again jaded and flawed.

Never heard a peep out of you about Bush. You hate Obama we all get that already.[/quote:3v5gy93w]

You realize I’m quoting Tap’s post don’t you, which is a quote from AP, which is a quote from one of Obama’s own people? Yes? Anything that went through over Bush’s term had to be approved by Congress as you well know, and for the last couple of years that was a democrat majority Congress. Obama will have their backing anyway, but even if he doesn’t, he apparently intends to override them anyway. Yes Bush vetoed some, and Congress blocked some of his plans too, but he wasn’t a law unto himself. It seems Obama has different ideas about that.

I really don’t understand why you have to attack me about details that come from Obama’s own people. Seriously, there’s something wrong with that. Do you deny Obama stating he intends to establish a huge domestic security force more powerful than the entire US military, and better equipped too? For DOMESTIC use? That doesn’t make you pause even for a moment? Or that Biden has warned you that they are going to do something that Americans will be very unhappy with, and that Americans (that’s you and me) will tell them they are wrong - but they’re going to do it anyway, whatever ‘it’ is. So much for representing the people.

I sincerely hope I am wrong about Obama, but unfortunately we may all have to find out the hard way. If attacking me for stating what has come from Obama and his people helps you manage your guilt or denial or whatever it is, so be it. (hehe, that should get a reaction). I don’t hate Obama - I don’t even know the guy - I just don’t like his apparent socialist leanings, and don’t believe he should be president. I am still free to express that opinion - at least for now.

Some quick points and then I’m going back to bed.

Bush didn’t go into office with a “cult leader” fascination. Any president and I’m sure all have used executive privileges soon AFTER taking office. It’s like any business, the new guy always turn over rocks to make an impression which can either be a good thing or a bad thing. Osama has clearly stated on setting up his “volunteer” force that will rival the military which you man shrug off however, as Weasel was alluding too…today you can voice an opposition..in 1-2 years, they could come lock you up. I’ve already heard and can find sources later to show how schools will question your kids to determine if the parent is teaching “hate at home” and if determined to be the case, DEFACS will get involved. In an further measure, you can be arrested by such “thought police” just on the suspicion so that if anyone one has a grudge on you they can claim that you hate Osama blah blah and guess what? It’s bye-bye for you as you get “re-educated”. It’s already happened here once. Right now, thanks to good ole California, they are trying to make it so that a Church can only teach certain things out of the Bible and certain topics will be considered “hate speech” in which case the Church will lose it’s tax-status and be labled as a “Hate Orginization”.

Whats the biggest issue? Churches that preach against homosexuals?

Didn’t Cali just outlaw gay marriage? It’s hard for me to imagine the government taking on the churches in the way you say. Obama going to take on Rev. Wright and similar churches? Seems unlikely to me.

I was in Kentucky last weekend and I was shocked by how scared people down there were. The Republicans still think Obama is a secret Muslim/Commie and many Democrats think Bush is going to declare martial law and stay in office.

I read the story tap mentioned. He forgot to mention that Obama plans on using executive orders to UNDO Bush’s executive orders.

Not just homosexuality but other issues as well..such as creationism for example. Darwinism isn’t necessary making a comeback, it’s just the few trying to force their belief on the many. Cali outlaw gay marries? Yeah and in the same breath, the gay community is going to petition the court to OVERRULE the wish of the people. With Schwartzenegger advocating also it’s not going to be a shock to anyone if said election is thrown out…same shit different day.

[quote:7xra94tk]The Republicans still think Obama is a secret Muslim/Commie and many Democrats think Bush is going to declare martial law and stay in office.

[/quote:7xra94tk]

I couldn’t say if that was the case at all. I don’t know if Osama is a secret muslim…he certainly isn’t a secret Commie..he’s been pretty straightforward about that. I also don’t think Democrats believe Bush is going to decalre martial law to stay in office? Don’t know about that…I don’t think that the masses, on both side of the fences, would stand idly by and allow that to happen. Where Osama has went wrong in causing the mistrust is the associations he has along with the backlash against anyone who has voiced any opposition towards him. He has definitely been straightforward in his way of thinking ( for the most part ) but his method of delivery leaves much to be desired. He also seems to be falling into believing the hype surrounding him. It’s not pre-madonna, it’s pre-osama!!!

I sincerely hope I am wrong about Obama[/quote:c2kgarlk]

What a load of crap… You have both a perception AND an attitude problem. He’s not even president yet and your still hacking away at him with your sharp little teeth. If you sincerely believed that, you’d give the guy a chance…

I try to not find fault with you J, it’s probably not your fault with the internet filter that you are stuck with so perhaps you don’t have the access to information that we Americans do. Australian web filter to block 10,000 internet sites

Jennifer Dudley-Nicholson

Australian Herald Sun

Thursday, November 13, 2008[/color:3artr7cl]

FLASHBACK: Australia To Enforce Mandatory Chinese-Style Internet Censorship

AUSTRALIA’S mandatory net filter is being primed to block 10,000 websites as part of a blacklist of unspecified “unwanted content”.

Some 1300 websites have already been identified by the Australian Communications and Media Authority.

Communications Minister Senator Conroy revealed details of the Rudd Government’s proposed web filter as he called for expressions of interest from internet service providers (ISPs) for a live trial of the technology, the Courier-Mail reports.

ISPs will test ways to filter the web using volunteer subscribers. The trial will start before Christmas and is expected to last six weeks.

“The pilot will specifically test filtering against the ACMA blacklist of prohibited content, which is mostly child pornography, as well as filtering of other unwanted content,” Senator Conroy told Parliament today.

“While the ACMA blacklist is currently around 1300 URLs, the pilot will test against this list - as well as filtering for a range of URLs to around 10,000 - so that the impacts on network performance of a larger blacklist can be examined.”

Electronic Frontiers Australia board member Colin Jacobs said his civil liberties group was concerned at what would be deemed “unwanted content”.

“Conroy said the list would contain illegal and unwanted content but we still have to see what would end up on that list.

Gosh, again I’m agreeing with Jezer?!

It’s really incredible that there’s this much fear about Obama after all that Bush has done over the last 8 years. All the stuff our Justice department did? Alberto Gonzales? “I don’t recall” All the censoring of scientists? Appointing Mike Brown as the director of FEMA, which even being generous could only be called a political appointment of someone with no previous experience with disaster management. The patriot act? Domestic wiretapping? You’re going to criticize now about “thought police” after you’ve been spied on, illegally, for the last few years? You want to give corporations immunity for illegally wiretapping your phones and internet connections? Torture? Abu Ghraib? Guantanamo?

The president doesn’t need executive privelege to exercise the power of his position. The people he appoints have huge amounts of authority. Now I guess there’s a lot of positions to fill for a new president, but I’ve got to believe that we’ll do better in the future.

For Pete’s sake, people on Fox are criticizing the 7 page questionnaire that Obama’s released for cabinet appointees. This is a huge step in the right direction! Someone SHOULD investigate these people that might be appointed!

I guess I’m just surprised that there’s all this fear of Obama after what we’ve all experienced with Bush. At least wait until Obama actually DOES something evil, then post THAT.

It’s one thing to have the same opinion… but it’s a whole totally different thing to agree with Jezer… Are you MADDD!

Welcome to my group. Forms on the left, uniforms on the right…

Osama standing on the Senate floor, ON 4 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS, making the case for denying medical attention to newborn babies that managed to survive an abortion so as not to make the mother second guess her decision isn’t evil enough for you? Setting aside any opinion on abortion itself, to take a living, breathing baby and deny it the care it needed to survive is about as evil as you can get.

Funny you should mention that. irony is a fickle bitch indeed. Osama would fail miserably on his own questionnaire.
