Drachma Eq Whinge Thread

·4656 words·22 mins

Yes I’m whinging… so get over it… Druid are overpowered blah, blah, blah, why don’t you play one then… etc etc

Right… moving on…

Cloak of the Tainted Rose -0.0 +7 Mana, +2 Ma Regen, Container

Silken Shawl of Lolth -0.0 +30 Spell Bonus, +1 Ma Regen None

Shield of the Rose -0.0 +8 Mana, +1 Ma Regen SDr Shapeshifts

Boots of the Forest Walker -0.0 +1 Ma Regen, +5 Mana SM SC SNe

Stone Token -0.0 +30 Mana, +3 Ma Regen SDr 2x40 Shapeshifts

These are my only options to spend my drachma on for shapeshifting… which is what I do, how I play…

Token - Stupid, forge Ars

Boots - Negates my Dolphin Skin boots to get my -1ac bonus shifted and yes I could use thick leather belt -

gos who wants to run moria? crickets chirping

Shield of the Rose - +1 Ma Regen, whoopdie do…. I max at nearly 150 mana regens!

Shawl - Spellbonus I can’t use shifted… and a huge +1 mana regen

Cloak - More regens!  can’t shift -0.5 cloak :(

I don’t have anything decent to spend my drachma on… and for once, I actually have some!

So… cynics, flamers, board trollers… you tell me, how would you spend my drachma as druid prime 4x caster… if you solo shifted? I’m open to ideas.

Some more shift eq would definitely be nice. Atm the only remotely decent option is getting mana/regen eq, and that’s pretty much second rate for pure shift drachma spending.

On a side note, the option of using a thick belt instead of dolphin boots disappears when you make 5x40 and want a -12 piasa.

I at least always want to run Moria though :)

I don’t quite understand why there is such a high price placed on an item for being shapeshiftable. If an item had +dam or -ac on it, it should have a higher price. But the current drachma shop items just have +mana and +ma regen for the most part. They don’t directly help you fight any better, just stay shifted longer.

500 some drachma for +1 ma regen +8 is absolutely ridiculous, but for some reason when you add that the item is shapeshiftable it becomes reaonable. comparing to other items that seems like at least a 400 drachma price tag just for being shiftable. Other items are similar.

I’m not saying there shouldn’t be some cost for an item being shiftable, it just seems excessive. Its like a thief having to pay higher drachma for items worn in stab gear than in ac gear, i.e. a +dam item would cost more if the thief intended to stab with it, but the same item would cost less if he didn’t intend to stab with it. Druids shift, that’s what their supposed to do. Why large penalty for using an innate ability.

[quote:2szclkjt]On a side note, the option of using a thick belt instead of dolphin boots disappears when you make 5x40 and want a -12 piasa. [/quote:2szclkjt]

Oh this is a bunch of bull.. piasa’s get to be -12? Why aren’t they penalized like the rest of us and stuck at -11? Your argument that druids aren’t overpowered just went out the window

my 2 cents

Druid shift should be like supplication, the lower in classo it is the more restricted the forms are, ie only prime gets piasa.

Piasa should be -11 to be consistent with recent changes to AC.

Shiftable drach eq is overpriced, underpowered.

Shiftable spellbonus eq should be available for the various form blasts.

+1 Rub

I agree that +12 AC is very very nice benefit for druids. Maybe it is too nice, but I don’t think so and here’s why:

From role-play view, dragons and dragony things have high AC. From classo balance view, warrior should have highest AC, but when you shift you have turned into a lame, but very beefy warrior. Why lame? No parry, no rescue, no protect, no entrench, no deathblow, etc. etc. You’re beefy of course with the hp. I’m not saying druids need those skills, they don’t, I’m just saying I don’t think druid having high ac and hp threatens warrior class at all.

From slothmud view, when shifted you have become a single class character with the exception of a nice blast. You can’t debuff, grip, stab, or order followers(plants are absolutely worthless against any mob for which the difference between -12 and -11 would be noticeable).

I think -12AC is fair for druids.

Eeer, -12AC is very nice, not +12 :)

Your gonna open up a can of worms here…

comparing shift to supplication…if you do that then what stops summons/animates from being held to the same level?

Ive shifted to -11 before and I can say for a fact my dragon got hurt more than any -11 warrior; there is more to damage control than just a negative number.

shifts are essentialy mobs and we all know mobs aren’t held to the same standards as pcs; 8 attacks a round, -15 ac, multiple casts per round, healing self when blind.

leave the poor druids alone, shifting to kill one thing and regen 5 mins is hard enough, its not like they all run shifted for hours at a time.

Once again feel free to ignore me, its your choice, but if druids are so powerful why isn’t everyone playing them?

On a side note bring back my eth summons….

Alias/Pooka

If you want to talk about available eq in shops the only thing shyla wants is mana regen and i have all the mana regen that her classo will allow her to have i have over 2k drachma on jacinda and not one more piece of drahma eq that will help out her regen at all. I would love it if they put better regen items in there. maybe a nice mana regen heal bonus item :)

and while we are pipe dreaming you can add a clasp for said item to give more mana :)

Love your local librarian

Shyla

Stryx and I have gone rounds over why druids get -12 ac shifted, because he had tons of hp and Toxis wasn’t even close… but, after many long debates, I finally realized DON’T MESS WITH DRUIDS. They already suck. They get 2 good things, and that’s mana regen and piasa.

When you shift you can’t do jack crap, and it’s so damn annoying when a spell falls and you have to switch back to fix it. I know, I played with my druid a lot and it’s annoying. And the lower shift forms (under dragon) really need beefed up a tad. They are so pathetic, it’s embarrasing. And put more skills to each form, give them an attack equal to a “kick” at least. I hate shifting and standing there beating down mobs unable to do ANYTHING, it’s soooo boring.

Put something else on the drachma eq other than mana and mana regen?

wings of the phoenix - worn on arms - shiftable to phoenix - 10% chance to fire bursts area for 1-100 damage every round

Just an idea to get some creative juices rollin.

-Toxis the Barbarian King of SlothMUD III

for those of you new to sloth let me explain one thing. mana regen is god! you can never have enough and any item you can get that will give you more get it and consider yourself lucky to have it.

jezer buy every piece of mana regen gear you can. as far as wearing it to shift, that’s what eq switches are for.

elwin the mana regen gear that is shiftable isn’t expensive because it shifts. the shield is the only one ingame that has mana regen. it’s an empty slot for every other class on mud except druid, same with boots and the few clerics lucky enough to have done the prime weekly ages ago. when no other item ingame gives somethin at that slot, expect it to be costly.

druids are some lucky bastards to be getting the type of mana regen that they are capable of.

and as far as drachma eq in general goes, there’s classes who have it a lot worse off than druids. try bein a thief, all of one good item for ya. that should liven things up.

peace out.

Nice post Toxis

The way I see it… Giant Bird/Dragon etc must have thicker skin in relation to its size, so -10/-11 is warrented imho. The extra -1 obviously comes from eq, much the same as a war horse is dressed up.

Druids dont suck! If used right, and with the right combination of classes, they can do a lot of things other classes cant.

Spells falling is quite annoying, but if you plan your runs out, it shouldnt happen on most spells at higher levels.

As for shifted skills such as kick, I would love to see this implemented. I cant see why a piasa cant have an attack such as wing beat/peck or even kick that drains moves instead of mana.

New drachma eq would be nice to, love the idea Toxis, but they would have to be in slots that dont affect current in game shiftable eq for druids, otherwise i cant see druids buying it.

The biggest thing I would like to see is something put in for prime druids only, to set them apart from druid 2nd - 4th. Even if its new drachma eq or skills in forms.

My only complaint really is:-

You raise your hands to the sky and slowly shift into a giant seadragon (Stryx).

You hold your breath… for now. :(

Ack! You just ran out of breath, you’re now breathing water! :?

Strider, I get the whole only item in game thing. It still doesn’t make much sense though. All or most the drachma shields are the only in game of their type. Also, they have the maximum stats or very close to it for any one item of any slot. ie +25 spell/+25 heal and the damage reduction and hand damage shields. I don’t know what the flail shield is now. They also have the highest available mana or hp for shield slot I believe. Compared to those shields I don’t see why a +3 ma regen +20ish mana shield for on the order of 1000 or so drachma is outrageous. +3 ma regen is the highest available for any slot, just like +25 bonus or +3 for hand dam.

And for all I care it can be available to all casters. I’m not saying just druids need the regen.

Really I would settle for rapid shift working though.

druids arent owerpowered

I’m quite surprised… I cast spectral shield on myself before I made that post!

I’ve noticed strider and shyla (older players) talk about mana regen, like it’s the holy grail, and look playing druid it’s really nice… but I think there argument is wrong.

I currently get about <50 mana regen shifted… the truth is though, I nearly always blast the mob down because yes we have high ac, but we get taken down fairly quickly.

I kill prongs, followers, milita, terracotta’s for xp… I don’t survive against those mobs without wraithform! I have to blast kill them before they kill me!!!… typically, my xp run is less than 2 ticks… Nearly every single run I did last night, wraithform was still up while I was regening for next run!!!

When you use 580 mana in < 2 ticks… I don’t care how much regen you got, you can’t make up 300 mana per tick on your feet and shifted! If you want xp, you just can’t do chop mobs with druid!!! I’ve worked out what is best xp … and believe me it’s blast!

Druids already have 130-140 mr while sleeping… and so why are we expected to buy a +1 mana regen piece of trash for 500 drachma? It might make a difference when your mana regen is 35… but when your mana regen is already 130!!! … I can make up that +1 in less than a r/l second… and you want to charge me 500 drachma for it? Bah!

What type of drachma eq do I want? My followers suck, my blasts do less than firewind, and I loose 80 mana changing forms when my stone skin drops, it can be hard to wear regen eq and keep the -1ac bonus we can get shifted… These are my real problems!!!

Drachma eq is meant to by valvable stuff. Mages spell damage, clerics heal bonus and regen, Warriors ac, monks hand dam, bards and necros… something a rather. But druids we have mana regen, we get ac somewhat through shift… I might as well buy moon aura books to keep the whinging low mana regen casters happy with me.

My only complaint really is:-

You raise your hands to the sky and slowly shift into a giant seadragon (Stryx).

You hold your breath… for now. :(

Ack! You just ran out of breath, you’re now breathing water! :?[/quote:tu89cc7n]

Now here is a practical solution!!!

Shield : Ancient Skin of the Dragon -0.2ac -5 to shift bugs!

I think that would sell like hotcakes… I’m still quaffing potions in INV while I’m shifted… kinda annoying when they are milky white…

Your gonna open up a can of worms here…

comparing shift to supplication…if you do that then what stops summons/animates from being held to the same level?

[/quote:329fmp8w]

They Should!

Elwin, there are basically two things in this game that are finite or at least have been for a very very very long time. damage and mana regen. you have to look at the historical context. there has never been a regen in shield slot till now, (except maybe 1 quest item) so expect to pay for it. i paid 2200 drachma for 2 dmg, and i’ld gladly do it again. because it is so rare and hard to come by. spellbonus and healbonus can be capped easily w/out those shields, mana, hps, and nearly anything else can be bought for xp. you find me some dmg and mana regen though and i will gladly pay all i can for it because i’m maxed out! it’s not always how useful somethin is that makes it valuable, but how rare it is.

Jezer, you’re showing just how spoiled druids are with their regen, 150 is good enough why bother buying the regen eq and adding another 5-6. like you said yourself, you use up an assload of mana. doesn’t it make sense then to get it back asap? i bet you don’t regen inside a lot, but since mana regen is so worthless to you you may as well start. you say you use 580 mana on a typical run, so anything over is wasted, may as well sacrafice a bit of mana for that extra regen. i hate to have to tell you this but invest in some ac and spelldmg eq, shifting isn’t the way to go for xp.

[quote:297bym1c]i hate to have to tell you this but invest in some ac and spelldmg eq, shifting isn’t the way to go for xp.[/quote:297bym1c]

There you have it! The reason why shifting is can be considered “underpowered” is because it’s an INEFFICIENT use of mana… We might regen mana, twice as fast, but we tend to waste it 3 times faster!

Regen is not the answer to our problems… An hence making druid drachma EQ mana regen, it’s a disappointment. It’s all about mana efficiency!

There are a few ways to improve mana efficency…

*More blast damage at the current cost

*Same blast damage as current, but give us more mana (hopefully we stay alive long enough to use it)

*Same blast damage as current, but make [b:297bym1c]SHIFTED[/b:297bym1c] forms regen faster (Somewhere between 20-50 mr more shifted)

These are the issue’s that special drachma eq for druids, should address (mana specifically - ac, clasps and perm spells aside for the moment)

So why not change the drachma eq to address the REAL problems with druid. We regen great! We don’t really need anymore!

Some of us actually want to run shifted, if we wanted to play mage, we would have picked mage prime! Most druids are 4 casters, I’m struggling to make -8 atm without a warrior class. I don’t want to run like a mage, I want to play druid, cause shifting is fun!

Once you near 130-140mr with ingame eq, you’ve done enough on that side of the game. Time to focus on other things.

No offence to long time old classo players, as I consider you legends of the game, but really talking about mana regen and druid is kinda silly, because it’s what we already got, we have other problems, and elite drachma eq, I think should address those. I can understand at some time mana regen was the holy grail, but as druids, it’s a non issue really.

Look, if you just curb your bloodthirsty urges and stop running around blasting the crap out of anything that moves, you’d have plenty of mana. It’s YOUR fault, so man up and take responsibility for it.

Cackle! :D

Intolerant, insensitive little rodent isn’t he!

But he’s got a point… we could always not use any mana at all! Buy the +5 WoW shield at the weaver instead like Krok and Mikie… hehe

hmmm takes me about 3 minutes to go through my 620 mana…alas, I regen a lot slower than you…but my lites are longer. once you get 7 tick lites, you’ll be able to run, regen and run again in one lite.

well as an awful old class character player, i can tell you that druids can blast while shifted for absolutely free, no mana cost, none whatsoever. figure that one out and you might run a bit longer. enjoy. find the right mobs and you can do just fine shifted.

But he’s got a point… we could always not use any mana at all! Buy the +5 WoW shield at the weaver instead like Krok and Mikie… hehe

(Yes, I can’t figure out how to make a quote.)

Ouch, someone remembers my name.

Btw, why shift if you have a necro in your classo? It’s not that you are playing druid/druid/druid/druid… Druid’s regen is insane combined with the right classes and the right usage. It’s a pity Aleksey doesn’t play anymore, he’d tell ya about the druid’s overpowered regen and how it affects the non-stop crazy xp runs.

But maybe I suck since I don’t play anymore etc.

But maybe I suck since I don’t play anymore etc.[/quote:3dimol9x]

Of coure you do, traitor! But we still love you!

I think that saying druids dont need extra regen is like say warriors dont need ac. Of course if you have +1regen it wont affect you much, same as if you have -11.1 ac, but if you work hard enough to get more mreg, like -12 ac, you will see much difference. My point is that you will never get eq that will fix your weak side, this is all about balance. If you choose benefits from one classo, you will get all disadvantages for it. Druids can regen much faster then some warrior type, but they will get hit more. Warriors can stay alive long enough but that is all they can do… etc etc

Imho druids should ask imms to revision plants, this should help more, then whine about “sucky” regen and shifted forms.

[quote:o4wlktbf]If you choose benefits from one classo, you will get all disadvantages for it. [/quote:o4wlktbf]

How true.

If i’m being honest, Druids have go to be lucky in the fact that they can run blast areas unshifted good enough, take down very big mobs shifted good enough. We can even run stab/grip mobs.. although not that well.

So, definition of druid for me… very good all rounder. How many warriors can run blast areas, how many mages can run very big mobs. I think the balance in druid as it stands is pretty much spot on. If i got more dam/a.c. etc, sure it would be nice, but whats the point in playing a game where you can just run around and splat anything easily. If I want to run high exp, then I would just have to make a thief. Or, find a thief on lyme to stab/blast with. I think the biggest cause for whinging about any classo, is the simple fact that people do not know the mud very well. So take what you’ve made and go explore, hit a mob… get hit and recall, learn what you can kill with your classo and what you can’t. If you do manage to get yourself killed in the process, I would say 90% of the day, there will be someone around to bail you out of a mess.

The only change i’d like to see is more variation in shiftable eq, but not to exceed the maximum limits that are currently set.

All 5x40 serious druids are going to be dressed in the same eq because of the lack of variety. But, having said that, its not really a big deal for me.

I agree with the last two posts, the druid is an all rounder! It can kind of do a bit of everything, but it is not really elite at any one thing besides regen. I think the druid class is fairly well balanced compared to the other classes.

However I still do think, that druids should have as many special drachma items as the other classes do. Isn’t this the point of drachma, special class rewards for hard work? I think in that respect it’s hard to argue we are not being let down.

The eq issue aside, Stryx is right, the success of how you play druid falls back on the player. Being a younger player it’s something I try to deal with but it’s not always easy, and most steps forward tend to be learned from a couple of steps backwards.

I dont see the pleantiful eq in the drachma shops for cleric. After the healbonus shield it gets thin.

If you dont like the way druid is, stop playing it and make a new char.

Druids should be lucky to shift with eq on at all. I think the amount of stuff already shiftable is pretty good.

I love to take a crack at those ‘junk’ ma regen drachma boots anytime. Please change the restricts on them since druids find them to be junk. Id love to be able to use them on my cleric.

For the most part I dont really understand your post on Druids. Other than you are bored so the whole class needs an upgrade type of mentality.

Every class can always use some love. That hope will never end.

Judging by that post…

  • Your probably a member of DoW

  • You probably put up resistance when new classo was introduced

  • You haven’t play druid, or you don’t play shifted

  • You never read the entire post

How many out of 4? :D

I love playing druid! 8)

go hug a tree, I’m sure you’ll feel much better for it.

silly drooids.

[quote:nhca00vw]silly drooids[/quote:nhca00vw]

Says the Perm Shifted Ferret! :D

Go back to your ON FIRE room! (X ) ( x)

You sure complain alot  but in any case I must say that I dont see a problem with druids as is I run as one in my cleric all the time when solo’ing I also run as a mage some of the time and not even as a druid prime I get 150 mana regen from druid class alone. I must say that I have baught the shield and I enjoy the benefit of it and I am drawing near having all the mana regen gear I can get not counting quest eq. I need infernites and those “stupid” boots that druids dont like to use bc they are useless yada yada yada even with druid in classo I would still take them for my cleric :) I dont see a thing wrong with druid leave it alone. What more are you looking for? -13 in piasa form? More mana? (grow levels) more blasts? (grow levels) do what we all did and level up to avatar buy the drachma eq you do want then rant in any case you dont know what your max mana will be, nor your max mana regen. My cleric not even a quad caster can get 950 mana atm and 160 mana regen without dreams the blasts in piasa are still fairly strong. Of course they arent gunna amount to a mage bolt or wind why should it? You can web in piasa, you can demon bind in piasa kick or whatever could be usefull too or whatever but its not a NEED most of the mobs I fight I dont have time to blast / “kick” anyways so I wouldnt probably use it. Thats a long rant, in that case, carry on. :)

Just take out piasa’s to level the field some…readjust ac to max of -11

which btw doesn’t matter… some shift forms have extra attacks that warrior primes don’t have so it thins the line a bit more to keep the overpowerment down. also, with that high of mana regen possible a cap seems to be needed…maybe 125 max and normal non-quest/elite around 80-100.

Thoughts?

Complaining is an attitude… asking for change, creating (sometimes controversial discussion) does not necessarily mean you are a complainer… it could mean your analytical… idealistic… perfectionist… or passionate about something (or what I’m really trying to say, your ME!)

If I were playing cleric atm, I would be starting new posts about the weaknesses of clerics etc etc. Only then… I don’t think you would be calling me a complainer. Clerics ARE the biggest whiners on sloth! :P The board will back me up on that! :D

I’m passionate about sloth, I love it how a game without graphics has more depth and originality than most games WITH graphics! I like change, new ideas… trying things! It’s who I am… It’s what I am employed to do in real life. If I didn’t value and like sloth, you wouldn’t hear a peep out of me… I would have walked away years ago!

I think the threads pretty much run it’s course now.. I’m just beginning to ramble… It’s back to the imm’s. There is always more making fun weasel to be done, but we can save that for another day!

Being a cleric prime I believe I’m yet to complain about cleric prime what is there to complain about other than if your an old school classo?

Meanwhile in the land of Warrior primes, it’s a major accomplishment (even at 5x40) just to just reach HALF the mana regen and HALF the mana max some of you guys get. Oh, and you can get -13ac too? Wow, Warriors don’t. Yet many of you manage to get similar max Hp, and in some cases even Hp regen rates that are better than Warriors, so I hear.

But Warriors have parry, which means they get to stand up front and die repeatedly for you, often losing huge amounts of hard-earned experience in the process. Yeah, that makes it fair, right? Guess again.

Stop whining - you’ve got it good, so quit while you’re ahead.

Oh yeah, totally right re old-school classo Yinao - I suggest there be some sort of regen bonus for all old-school class characters. We deserve it.

LOL perfect

I love it when Stride gets up in this shit.
