As a mage prime I always think of a ways to change or add something to mage class first. And here what I thought of. Currently mages are mostly raw power of blasting, with few additions like haste to enhancement and slow to debuffing. On the other side monsters in game can summon other monsters or minions to their aid. Isnt it natural for mage to be able conjure something too? Right now necromancers, druids, clerics can in various ways get some minions. Wont something like demonology be naturally mage skill? Okay I know, just another summoning spell, but for mages? But lets say those pets wont be fighting ones. They wont take your damage or damage your enemies. These pets may affect mobs, player or just surroundings. Purely like chan chu or eudaemon supplications.
Here might be some of spirits or demons or elementals? :
one that gives small amount of regen to player (of course doesnt stack with bard song)
one that procs at mob from time to time - maybe slow or silence
one at avatar levels that can give like 5 spell bonus or spell bonus + heal bonus at highest levels
low level version might boost one stat for time its being summoned(it contradicts with spell stats being avatar spells, but you cant benefit from other summons when you have that one)
one that might reduce monster procs penalties, affecting just a summoner
one that can affect room like casting inferno(or is that one cast on mob?) or fog and such
one that can search for caches? telepathy spell is really useless :(
and so on…
As bards are close to mage class in terms of spell casting, maybe can give them that ability too, probably with shorter range of summons or just different summons.

Obviously this is never going to happen since it would almost certainly unbalance mages (magi?) to a drastic degree. But personally my daydream summoning skill has always been golem making. If the raw material for them was various different chunks, it would be great to watch their value skyrocket.
Cool ideas, I thought druids are traditionally more the elementalists though, and maybe mages more along the lines of sentient drones or golems.
There could be lots of cool things made around the traditional fire, water, wind, ice earth etc… almost like another peri strata system… I nominate Judge to code this awesomeness secretly while evil splork is on holidays.
In any case I think any class extenstion for SAv’s would have universal support, especially since the player base is biased to die hard mudders these days.
I do like the idea that the mage class have a ‘summon’ ability and for it to focus on demons and the outerplane dieties is a neat twist.
As for who is closest to the mage class, I gotta say necro is much closer than bard, but that’s another thread.
I propose that you have the ability to leverage that information from demons like some of the bard spells, but with a higher degree of accuracy.
Levels 1 - 10: demon imp provides ‘danger sense’ warnings similar to kenning
Levels 11-20: demon fiend can run to mob in zone (by passing doors, etc) and look at mob (similar to spirit watcher) but then gives specific description to mage regarding items loaded
Levels 21-30: demon fury provides additional information beyond ‘consider’ levels. For example, damage and hit point comparisons.
Levels 31-40: demon fiend dante gives mage information on mobs that begin aq’s/forges in zone, offers helpful keywords, etc.
Thoughts?
I like this idea, really be helpful and fun.
Bazilus the crazy Python
imho:
give golems to mages,
let bards tame animals,
left demons for cluriks..
hm.. what else?
ah, and yes, give us 5x40 proc on mace :)
and no need that bread :)
on a simper note: mages should at the very least be able to dispel a particular spell. U’d think the advanced mysteries of magic would make a mage more knowledgable about auras than thieves who can pull a specific spell off someone else and put it on themselves.

Yeah, I know it’s been said before, but I don’t see why there isn’t an avatar level mage spell like ‘greater dispel magic’ where a mage can target a specific spell and remove it.. [i:2e6q2klz]cast ‘greater dispel’ weasel web [/i:2e6q2klz]…is it a problem to code?

i have asked for this for years. i hope like hell that because someone else besides me is asking for it that it is brought ingame.

That’s because we don’t know what spells are up on the mob.
And can’t know untile masterful dispel.
As for dispelling webs - there’s an Reign of the Spider.
We don’t need to dispel certain spells from mobs. Dispel all spells works good for me.
But we can’t dispel ‘fly’ spell and we can’t run to dmount, cano with this spell up. Sure there is a potion you can use but it’s a pain to get it and it seems lame to me that avatar magus doesn’t know the spell that even newbie warrior can get from potion.
Another annoying spell you will probably want to dispel is ‘mindbar’ spell.
And there is no way as I know to do it except dispel magic. It would be great if we can dispel aegis instead of waiting for tick or so to renew it.
And I’m still looking for another version of ‘wealth’n’glory’ song (prob just for prime bards) that will tell you if certain mob loads something useful except random pops. We don’t need name, just say us something like
The sparrow says ‘I’ve heard this pitiful creature sometimes can carry a very powerful piece of equipment!’.
And sure, it would be great if we can get a spell to highlight objects for trigtraps. I still can’t find a trigtrap to get to the room with golden teacher in elem school (BTW I bet this room is disconnected from the area in the term of exploration).

think it through, dumbass. the reason we want it is for PERSONAL use or to help another char by dispelling his stone skin and giving him iron skin or dispel sanc so can aegis, etc. or as was noted to dispel fly because of no-fly rooms. and as for not knowing what’s up on the mob, you’re right, the generic dispel is fine…as is purloin aura. it would only occur to idiots like you to dispel only ONE buff from a mob.

Get back to kitchen and thisnk it through, hysterical woman.
Those Avatars with Iron Skins and Aegises ain’t there to spell up newbies.
Well, being able to dispel stone skin would be useful if you’re about to make a <22 tard char tank and want to get their ac up.
Also, a spell (or maybe even a skill) to identify which spells a mob or pc has up would make some sense.
Noone is going to code a whole new spell just because some newb tank thinks he’s cool enough to tank Flame, but, what a pity, doesn’t have his own Skin yet.
It’s A use, not THE use.
I remember back when someone could stop being called a newb before they made 3 5x40s.
And you need a tank to kill flame? Maybe you should stop throwing stones from your glass house?

Shhhhh !…. :D
(I got relocation sb all alone, this counts as i’m not a newb anymoar?)[/size:3a8f95h1]
And I still think that there must be a tank on point according to mob’s difficulty.
There won’t be a spell to dispel Stone skin just because someone can’t wait to get -10 instead of -9. No other application of that targeted dispel is unreplacable or unavoidable it seems. Also, we can wait and see for ourselves who’s right.
