The pit has been dug very hastily, as though only time mattered to the

From your side of the story, Static, the other player was definitely out of line and should not have recalled you.
But, I don’t know the other side, maybe he had been cycling for the last 10 hours, had the mob posted in his title, and was regening in the room above? That would put you as the offending party in my book. In which case you probably got off easy. javascript:emoticon(’:twisted:')

Almost everyone here is quite decent when approached with the facts. Well, most of us anyway.
What is stupid is taking action and maybe starting a silly war without really knowing the story, although we have had the occasional player who thought this was what the mud was about.
Anyone can make a hasty judgement every once in a while. Best not to take it too seriously. Forgive and forget and you may find that character is your running buddy next month.
We lost a “real” newbie from our mud last month due to crap like this. He rudely complained when someone “stole” his mobs and further pissed him off. A couple of 5x40 heard one side of it and gave him the “treatment”, blind, web, slept, attempted idol dive, etc. Not good for a sub level 20 new to the game.
When this crap happens, it best to talk the other party and give it a day to get perspective. Hell, the mob wasn’t even loaded. (Well this ran way too long)

It really depends on the Immortal involved with the problem. When the same thing happened to my newb I just resorted to threatening the guy. This will make you feel better but does not do much good. The only response I got was that if I retaliate then I will be in trouble. So the story sounds fishy to me. There is no punishment for recalling someone. It seems fairly petty to me.
Accepted 5 prime level loss to get character back. Henchforth bloody piles of mob corpses shall mark my presence.

How do you know it was a real newbie and why wasn’t this addressed? The same treatment was given to Fyrstenheart, unfairly I might add, and he left awhile and had to start over with a new secret,secret char. My point being, harrassing other char’s makes no sense whatsoever. We should all check ourselves in these situations. Hated that “realnewbie’ had this happen. Someone should have stepped in and corrected the situation,explain mud-politics to the newb etc., or at least brought it to the crier.

For me, I would have expected
(1) Someone to tell me off

“I got here first, do you mind ?”
“I have been cycling this, I want the spot back after this mob”
etc..etc..
(2) Let me finish off the mob and tell me off 1)
(3) If the mob didnt load, “Thanks for killing it, saves me 1 run”
(4) If the mod did load, “Thats was my run, can I have the item”
In any circumstances, I would have finished killing the mob and got myself out of anyones way, and if it did pop, hand over the item ( if it wasnt Personal flag ).
And yes Trajan, I did notice the thugs that was charmed out of town around Autumnal ( identifies someone was cycling area ).
Thats why I always do a ‘Where’ cmd to see who is in map.
And when I saw no-one, I solo-ed holy cleric, wandering kender, and 3 punks which I use embalm corpse for peri etc.
In that whole time, no one came back to Autumnal, which I assume was free for my taking. The seeker was in ‘Excellent Condition’ even if u did a 2-run to regen and kill him. To me, it was identified as no one touched him, just repop, and time to kill him.
But the moral of story here isnt about breaking someones run, stealing loots, player killing or hashing it out with each other over tells/reply with harassment or unproductive arguments, until someone has to quit and make ‘secret’ chars.
I was just trying to make a point to the public, that anyone can manipulate the system by a simple use of recall. And since there is no argumentative definition of a rule to using that ’exploit’, there is also no pre-defined penalty for using it. So anyone can get away with it ?

I always thought the rules were pretty clear on this kind of stuff. At least they used to be.
If you are cycling a mob and your not sitting on it, it’s up for grabs.
From a non-rule perspective you are also a dick if you kill it it knowing someone is cycling it and if you don’t know it’s being cycled and somone shows up you appologise and find a way to make it right.
It’s also been pretty clear that if you maliciously screw with another player you can be subject to immortal punishment if they bitch about it. Near as I can remember it’s always been this way. Did things change while I was gone?
Seems like the imms took a pretty standard action in this case.

Regarding this incident, the standard action is for Imms to do what they think needs to be done. If you want more information, ask one of the imms. It’s clear that the whole story isn’t posted here, and I bet that it won’t be.
In the end, it turns out that Sloth is a game where you play with other people over the internet. If you’re mean to those people, they will be mean to you in return.

I was not personally involved, but I think Mahkra and Avatar pretty much captured the reasoning behind the punishment. I would like to emphasize that I think 95% of these types of incidents can be resolved peacefully if both players keep their cool and talk. I dont understand what would make a person lose their cool and either go off on someone else or take action to disrupt their play without discussion.
Take a minute, ask nicely, and if that doesnt work consider some other action. We need to try a bit harder to get along. In the real world, if things dont go your way, you dont get far by going off on someone, trying to kill them, run them off the road, or whatever. Consider that next time you have “mud rage” ;)
