|_________|This is lead on from the rebirth thread… I have a question… why are 5-10m off lyme mobs so difficult? Why is it that mobs less than 5m are generally all easily killed, but mobs 5-10m need a regen afterwards… even in a hypothetical situation where I purchased everything in the proposed rebirth shop, why would 5-10m mobs still be so damn draining and difficult? Instead of running shadow keep from 1x40… you would think I should be able to kill something by now that gives me double the xp. Whats going on here?

Here is a list of 6-10m mobs on sloth… some errors… now I bet your interested… Here’s the bad news… they nearly all suck… and it’s twice as easy to kill 2 3m mobs for the same xp… WHY! Why is there such a massive jump between a 3-5m mob and a 6-10m mob… the difference is almost exponential… In a lot of cases 4 times the resources must be spent to kill a 6-10m mob than a 3-5m mob.

tldr: it’s hard to increase mob exp by only increasing their dam, so they boost their hps, with several Lyme exceptions.
You’ll notice that:
large soft-shelled turtles
patriarch/matriarch in necrop
firemage in necrop
apparition in necrop
terracotta warriors/sentries
the eye in UD2
are killed much easier, than most offlyme mobs.
Why?
Very roughly, Exp = hps * K * dam * procs/L*gold.
Those mobs are thin, but hit hard.
More mobs:
lizardmen
ogres
baboons
spiders in M&M.
They hit 700 per round easily, can be killed in 0-1 rounds with 3 people for 10-20mil total.
That damage is the difference between the exp, with hps being relatively similar to the hate-filled soldiers (or even much thinner in case of spiders).
After 700dam/round you probably shouldn’t increase their dam, so imms increase hps, which turns a 5mil into a 10mil mob and a 10mil mob into a 30mil group mob.
I think that reducing mob hitroll and boosting damage simultaneously might work - but I think “walkers” will consider this cheating to boost exp.
Example: djinnis in the fire extension are 7-8mil. They don’t hit much against -14ac despite having moderate damage, but they are thick and have at least 1 proc. Using ice softens them up, but after a few you need to regen anyway, because there are only 3-4 of them.
Another point, which you might’ve noticed, is gold. It reduces mob exp by a disproportionate amount. For exp, I’d prefer a 10mil mob with 1 coin than a 8mil mob with 10k gold - and even then I’m not sure the 8m mob would be easier to kill. e.g., compare terracotta warriors with the sahaguin temple guards.
I know you’d prefer the latter, though - but then, why would you complain about mobs being low exp for the effort?
Also, procs. They influence exp somehow, and mobs w/o procs or spells/immunes are just less exp. Aggro mobs should increase exp as well.
If I were to make avatar-solo mobs, I’d copy terracotta warriors or eye of the deep and boost their dam by 30-50%. Maybe tweak hitroll a bit, add some dispel and vorpal procs. j/k about procs, but you get the drift.
But wait, avatar caps are still 11mil, so just replicate 10000 terracotta warriors.
Also, why should I subscribe to Surf’s channel?

Fluffy and Breeze have already briefly touched on the mob issue in the other thread.
Quote: And about the question of
i guarantee that if we were to make something like that, we would have to come up with something for mobs tooThats not an issue imo. We have plenty of high level areas that literally never being run. Some of them could adjusted to be good 9x40 rebirth players exp area. And/or adding more of such areas. And actually, high power player would just run tougher areas, since they will need more exp
Remember Juggleblood? He used to do a few area do-overs. He did a good job of hive… maybe that is what needs to occur with some of the 6-10m mobs. I think the older the area the worse things tend to be. Chasm and Dreams are fine, and even Nep’s elemental’s I think are inline. But there is definitely a bit of an issue in that space. When I hit 9x40 and get myself a real stabbing weapon, I might run through these mobs solo and report back some results… I wonder what Neptune thinks about this situation? Mind commenting Nep?
You know, another problem, besides thick mobs, is that areas have too few of them.
You can splork them now, but 2x40s weren’t supposed to.
What can be improved is the number of good solo mobs to simply increase by 3-5 times. More mobs, more exp, more grinding for rebirth shop.
But, this approach is frowned upon (see other thread).
I’d also like to hear Neptune’s opinion on gold mobs for 9x40 avatars:
do they need to continue farming 2-3x40 areas for gold?
why the EU mobs have same gold 3x40 mobs have?
Thank you.
Quote: even in a hypothetical situation where I purchased everything in the proposed rebirth shop, why would 5-10m mobs still be so damn draining and difficult?
Um, in this hypothetical situation I would answer that either your equipment or your strategy is garbage. A few things to consider are doing a lot more damage faster, or making better use of your temporary hp skills.
Are you trying to kill these with -14 AC? That’s a common mistake warriors make. It only works well when they have people following them around who actually deal damage.
I’ll let the comment fly past about my strategy or eq being garbage… I’m well aware of ways to kill these mobs without taking any damage at all… my point is why are 6-10m mobs exponentially harder on average than mobs that give half the xp.
The fact I am in ac for this fight, sort to illustrate that I was at the peak of the games defensive capability, yet I was still being raped by a mob, doing exponentially more damage, than a mob half it’s size on average. There doesn’t seem to be any “inbetween” between stab mobs, and group stab mobs. Dark dreams, Dark Chasm, Opera and Ogres tend to be the exception, not the rule. My fear is that at the end of rebirth shop even with the power increase, I will be above solo stab mobs, but below your typical 6-10m mob in this game. Perhaps I could restate my underlying concern, will rebirth just mean I can run the same mobs I have been running since 1x40 faster, or will it actually mean I can start running different areas? I have my doubts.
