Rolled a necro up to lvl 10, excited to try it’s bread and butter lvl 10 ability.. summon undead. So off I go looking for the spellbook only to find out it pops randomly on a valk mob that cons “Are you MAD?” (still cons you need alot of luck to a 20/20).

So I found it on the eq page on a few other mobs - tried the first 2 on my nearly 3x40 and am unable to solo these mobs past 60%.

What is the purpose of this? I am constantly trying to find ways to make Sloth more newbie friendly and I can tell you that requiring an avatar to solo a lvl 10 core ability spellbook or 3 20’s on valk to cycle a mob is just not feasible for 2016 slothmud.

I can’t help but think this is an oversight. I’ve asked in gossip and I get “they want to force you to group” in return… while I agree with the idea what we should group when possible, a lvl 10 core ability spellbook being completely unobtainable by a new player to the mud is unacceptable, right?

We have really got to start rethinking things like this in my opinion… i want to see the who list as populated as it was 15 years ago.

Blix

post polter pet length

hey, i just hit 2x40 and was really excited about wraiths. that was until i realized they didnt last a single hellwell run. so here i am, 2x40, and still using poltergeists as they are proving to be far more efficient. and well, i just find this to be lame. isint 10 minutes a bit extreme? can UC be made to increase this at least? just wondering.

New spell suggestion - Avatar level Deathpact

So, Deathpact is a pretty neat spell. When it works. What about an Avatar version that either doubles its effectiveness while doubling the cost? It would certainly get a lot more prime necros to use it.

if not doubling the effectiveness, another route may be to extend the 5 rds of deathwatch to 7 or 8. Certainly worth casting for all of those solo necros who need that extra time for someone to get them a raise! Even at 200 per casting, I know I’d use it.

Pets, followers and all-round-groupies

So, I gotta say right off the bat the Necromancer class sure is fun. Unless you are completely drained and need a nap, you are the life of the party!

So, I have a couple of questions regarding pets, followers and hangers-on that seem to gravitate around the spellcasting crowd. First, is it better to have your followers tank for you or for you to lead the charge? I’ve gotten great results having Lenny and Squiggy (my two ghouls) battering around those poor unfortunate mobs while I debuff from behind. But I’ve also gotten advice to the contrary. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I have the fortunate classo of L20: N/D/C/B. Which allows me a Peri/Manes and two undead of my choice. Is there a way to throw in druid followers on top of this? Or even a mage familiar (a la, familiar scroll)? What i the maximum potential? And more importantly, what makes the most sense?

I also recently learned you do NOT want to cast any heal spells on your undead followers. They don’t take kindly to that sort of thing around these parts. So, is the only way to get their hp back by having them sleep and regen? I’ve seen ppl dismiss Peri’s once their mana was out and re-supp with a fresh corpse. Is that the best way?

Thanks,

Widow

Necro Guild on lyme???

Is there any necro guild on lyme or owerpovered class goes underpowered from that sight?

necropolis of undead. However, soloing is not all that SlothMud is about. Getting to know other players is at least as important. Most of the players keep an eye out for each other. Some monitor their friends via tell commands, others use (clan) channels. As soon as a player disappears the alarms are raised via gossip. And this is where this little suggestion comes in.

It would be great if the necromancer (die-hard soloists  ) would get access to a new spell to monitor another character’s heartbeat, say by casting ‘hearbeat’ <charname>. When that character becomes incapacitated or worse i.e., when the heartbeat drops dramatically or stops altogether, the caster would receive a warning (like a spirit watcher does).

Come to think of it, an expansion on the idea would be to use it on mobs. It would prevent numerous look commands, and make newbie necros flee their followers on time when in group and less clumsy

Since I’m very noob myself I can’t judge on game balance when introducing such a spell/ability. But often I wished to be able to help other players while I’m soloing. Necromancers deal with life/death forces of all kinds, and this little idea kind of is in line with their classo. So here it is.

Looking forward to your replies.

Happy Hunting,

Deucer a.k.a. When cruising the streets of Newbatia, things seem to work fine most of the time. He typically attacks thugs by blinding, striking, then ordering followers to assist him (Order Followers Assist Jorgen). After the first round of combat normally all 3 join in. Occasionally 2, or maybe even 1, will join in after the first round and he’ll have to issue the order again. Very infrequently he may have to issue the order 3 times.

This is not what I’ve been experiencing in the gang’s hideout, especially on the trail leading there. The majority of the time I’m seeing only 1 pet join in, no matter how many times I issue the order. I’ve even tried issuing the order for each missing pet by name (Order Ghoul Assist Jorgen). This last time the spectre was the only one to help for most battles; I don’t recall if it was the same pet on the previous times I’ve tried this area.

Do your pets decide to follow orders based on the area?

Does lighting or the mob hiding have anything to do with it? I normally have both Darksight and Detect Invisibility on, so maybe I’m seeing the hiding thugs that 2 of the pets can’t see, although you would think they’d spot them when I’m punching them.

Is there anything I can do to improve my pets response to orders?

Thanks.

Curse Spell

Is Curse a defensive or offensive spell? Do I wear all my +undead control stuff when summoning/animating and then switch back to by fighting eq because all the stats of my undead are set when I raise them? Not a criticism just an obsevation.

doug

Necro is an interesting classo to play but it has some serious deficiencies in my opinion. Among them are:

The strength spell nicking a con point is kind of silly. Does anyone actually use this? I can use potions and scrolls obviously, but why make a useless spell.

Bone armor, this is the biggest problem with using necro as your prime caster level. It shatters almost constantly at level 24. It is obviously based on mob level against caster level but this is really unreasonable. I can’t kill groupers, parasites, pretty much anything over 300k will shatter my bone armor, chewing up my mana at 16 mana per recast and eventually causing me to recall. Sucky.

Word of pain should be level 16 or so, a level 20 caster should get some kind of useful offensive spell by the time mages have fireball. Maybe not word of pain but something at least. Vamp touch is cool but it doesn’t seem to do much damage and frequently enough yields a palrty return on hp.

Reign of the spider, this might just have been overlooked, but since the spells says any level 20 caster, shouldn’t necros also get the spell? If not that kind of stinks in that if you are foolish enough to do warrior/necro you will be waiting till level 20 of your tert class at least to get out of webs without having to dispel.

On the plus side, arms is cool, wall is swell.

Anyhow, opinions?

new spell

any ideas who pops the necrology book? :?:

Animating Dead is it worth?

Sorry for long post, but i was schocked  .

Since when animated followers don’t assist?

When it was changed? data-subject="Necro Classes">

When the new classes started, I was very interested to know that there is a necro class, hence started Nomis. However, after playing some time (approaching 26 days Mudding time), its obvious that necros suck as a prime level, and especially without cleric or druid classes.

Among some of the weaknesses are:

Wraithform is useless against big mobs, energy drain sucks for lowbies without cleric and druid class, infuse soul potions last for a short time only, like an hour or so, and they don’t heal that much.

Sigh, can I trade my quad for a cleric or druid? :?

Anyway, the Juju stuff and Death Pact (use to be cheat death, which i preferred) is cool, but I still can’t solo stuffs like the other classes

Well, hope to get that 3X40 soon. See ya all and happy mudding
