Monk Weapons

·1469 words·7 mins

I’d like to open discussion and conduct a poll……. the topic is monk weapons.

A description of the monk class in dungeon’s and dragons states,

“They typically use only their bare hands as weapons, delivering powerful blows that grow stronger as the Monk rises in power. Monks can also use special Monk weapons such as the quarterstaff and kama, using many of their unarmed-combat abilities with these weapons as well.”

I realize this is Sloth and not D&D but nonetheless….. I think it is a great idea. My personal thoughts are that weapons of this type WOULD allow hand damage to apply. Additionally, certain weapons could be used with strike, stun, flurry etc.

I would NOT be proposing that any of these weapons further enhance the normal base hand damage. In fact, a weapon could do less than normal base damage but have a proc on a successful strike for instance.

I just think its silly that the monk class is a weaponless class and that weapons of this type would only add to the flavor of the game.

This is an open discussion. Please post your thoughts or hit me online if I’m in Nab/Mojo.

Thanks,

Keith

P.S. Nunchaku are a must!!!

Personally I dont have a monk but it would be a nice idea, however some ideas for thoughts are would you need to remove the “monk weapon” for things like deathgrip or deathtouch. You mentioned strike, flurry, and stun, just trying to grasp on what and what not would be available. All in all I think its a nice idea.

You wouldn’t have to remove shit. Use a garrote technique or even have it as a monk skill at low avatar = the ability to use monk weaps, kamas, sais, bo staff, nunchaku, nekode, cesti, katars…get down. I want a phone cord.

This is a great idea I 100% approve.

I do play a monk prime, and I think this is a helluva good idea. From the way I’ve always seen it interpeted, striking weapons like staves and nunchaku could be used with strike or stun, because its a monk’s knowledge of vital spots that allows them to use these skills, and the weapon just gives them a little breathing room compared to bare hands.

I also agree with the idea that these weapons shouldnt have any damage enhancements, but possibly procs, like a low % to trip a mob on a staff hit or if people think using a staff/chucks/tonfa for stun/strike is too powerful, give the weapons a % chance to stun/strike

Just my $.02

Banedon

Just a thought based on what was just said about the weapon giving a little room.. perhaps a wielded staff, while not increasing damage in any way, could work like a very mild form of parry in that it keeps the mob at bay somewhat, causing them to miss a blow every now and then as it is ‘blocked’ from connecting by the staff..

Its all about style points, put some nice looking weapons in there for monks.

They dont need to do anything, but look cool and allow for all monk skills to still be used; handdam, strike,grip/touch/ counterattack.

Just my irrational thoughts.

I’d have to agree it would be a cool addition. Even if they only had a proc like curse/damn or blind etc. it would be neat to see..

Nab masterfully gashes Yasik’s eyes with his sais blinding him!!!!

Nab performs a combination strike with his nunchaku decimating Yasik!!!!

Nab lands a skillfull blow with his Bo staff knocking Yasik off his feet!!!!

that would really breathe new creative arts to killing Yasik. FUN!

Monk weapons with +hit.

Gravy.

Maybe they will update the 3x40 with some Prime Eq first.

Monk Hand Dam Gloves would be rockin!

Hello? Is this still Sloth? I think a virus changed the bookmark of this website… never have I seen ppl on Sloth agree about anything..

Autolycos, Medios, and Leaf having a normal conversation? The apocalypse is near! Repent now!

Aka

So your’e just gonna remove my post instead of explaining why other char’s who have posted alot worse pic’s/offensive language haven’t been bothered with? Admit it… who has pull with you?… just curious. Again.. akasha bans me from crier for posting a stringline of weasels from hunting yet other people who have posted pics and/or use offensive words haven’t even be given even as much as a slap on the wrist.

Nice Job

I’m not getting into a public battle of insults or explanations. Post something constructive and “on-topic” instead of spamming every topic with useless garbage and we’ll talk.

{EDIT} It wasn’t the picture, I just grew tired of it all.

That’s all I have to say on the matter, and that’s all I will say until I am overruled or the entire situation changes.

Aka

Way to go! Sorry but R.I.P

bwah! nice move Akasha!

was it hades that got banned?

Gauntlets of the Yellow Rose

Nope.. not a troll but a phoenix

Oh.. not sure how old that post was but I think it got cut off. Was adding onto furball’s idea of clasps. A gem/clasp that could be attached to weapons/gloves would be possible addition. And to keep it fair, you couldnt have a valker weapon with say high-dam spell clasp attachment. example below for those who I failed to articulate for

level20 and under could do an autoquest and gain (according to their primary class clasp) a spell clasp for weapon/gloves. In this case we will use mage.

level 20 - flawed sapphire gem - shocking clasp

level 30 - nearly perfect cut diamond - fireball

level 40 - eye of - ice ray

avatar status could possible get a lower level group-attack spell like spark shower or similiar

flame on

was it hades that got banned?

Gauntlets of the Yellow Rose[/quote:21jd25gw]

I was saying about the Monk 3x40 Hand with more dam would be rockin

Or a +1 Hand -.4 held low (Monk Book’ish)

Better yet those beads that monks use to claim themselves. (U know in the

movie they walk around rolling these beads in their hands. Quick thinking

gay stuff AA … anal beads is what u were thinking!)

Any imm opinions on this? It’d be fun to use weapons as a monk.

Possibly, by adding +1/2hit, +1/2dam, skill procs (trip, strike, blind, etc) or both.

I thought one of the major ’things’ about monks was their bare handed fighting skills like deathgrip, counterattack etc (I don’t play monk so whatever).. but if you want to use weapons, seems to me you should be playing a warrior prime. Or lose some monk bare-handed fighting skills.

Saying this as a monk: Giev nunchakas and shurikens pls kk? :)

I wish the monk skill stun worked better. Currently it seems it successfully stuns less than the warrior skill broadside does.

Frankly - I don’t see this as a big issue, because as it is right now, stun skill is useless anyway.

In 98% of situations instead of a chance to stun a mob and avoid that wind it’s going to blast it is better to just strike and kill the mob faster (avoiding that wind for sure).

Help file says chance to stun grows with focus - which is also useless because it’s clearly more worthy to strike for ~8 rounds than wait for a full focus and then see “You hit the mob, but it doesn’t look stunned.”

Stun % should be raised [b:sekxhpmg]considerably[/b:sekxhpmg] to make it any worth using, even on Alhoon.

Sounds like Monk’s version of Warrior’s flail.
