This is very bad, and will effect all

monks over a short period of time. It will have an everlasting affect on

all of our kind. Without this aura, we will lose power, strength, and

endurance. The aura that binds us to our styles of fighting must be

found and returned. When did I have it last? Well yesterday I was

fine. I even gave lesses to a new member of our guild. He was a

young elvin, just learning the ways of the monk. Do you think he could,

or would have stolen my aura? Seek him out, confront him, ask him about

the aura. If he knows anything, I am sure he will be willing to tell you.

But if you find that it is he, who stole my aura, kill him! He don’t

deserve to be part of our guild, and should check into the thieves guild

instead.’

Do prime monks get additional multiplier?

This page http://www.slothmud.org/wiki/Monk states the prime monks get additional deathgrip multiplier. However some experienced players deny that info. They say that prime monks get additional hand damage, but their deathgrip is same power as others.

Who is right?

I am pretty sure that monks do not get multipliers.

I see, thanks.

Five Fingers of Death

This was a skill suggestion by Hung, forget the name for the moment and consider the idea.

Hung wrote:

So here’s another suggestion. Add prime monk spell ‘Five Fingers of Death’. It costs 100 mana and lasts for 1 tick, so it’s unlikely to be used in groups. It makes hands glow red and adds, say, 15(maybe 10 for non-avatar, 15 for avatar) damage for each attack.

The suggestion got lost in the weeds of a different discussion so I’m putting it back up here. This is not a debate about where monk stands in relation to other classes, forget about it for a moment please.

The question I ask is should monks be able to divert mana into their damage?

The answer I come to is yes, that is really a cool concept. It creates a nice dichotomy between the thief class and it’s brother class monk. Thief diverts movement into damage via the circle skill like a blast. Then monk is diverting mana, which makes sense in a fantasy reality way and in a mechanics way.

The first argument I see against this is: aren’t you turning monks into mage’s then? Not at all because the damage is being diverted thru the characters melee attacks. This means that the characters number of attacks and hitroll and opponent AC all play into it. And it also means that the damage being done is slow cumulative bonus rather than the mages large instant damage.

Another reason this would not be OP is because we could take the opportunity to fix some features i.e. nerf down the number of actions that monk can do while deathgripping. This would be a very nice bone to give in exchange for a necessary nerf.

So anyway I thought his idea deserved a second look. I don’t care for the name and didn’t examine the exact numbers he presented. But I think the concept is perfect for monk prime and it could be balance out easy enough.

Monk Weapons

I’d like to open discussion and conduct a poll……. the topic is monk weapons.

A description of the monk class in dungeon’s and dragons states,

“They typically use only their bare hands as weapons, delivering powerful blows that grow stronger as the Monk rises in power. Monks can also use special Monk weapons such as the quarterstaff and kama, using many of their unarmed-combat abilities with these weapons as well.”

I realize this is Sloth and not D&D but nonetheless….. I think it is a great idea. My personal thoughts are that weapons of this type WOULD allow hand damage to apply. Additionally, certain weapons could be used with strike, stun, flurry etc.

I would NOT be proposing that any of these weapons further enhance the normal base hand damage. In fact, a weapon could do less than normal base damage but have a proc on a successful strike for instance.

I just think its silly that the monk class is a weaponless class and that weapons of this type would only add to the flavor of the game.

This is an open discussion. Please post your thoughts or hit me online if I’m in Nab/Mojo.

Thanks,

Keith

P.S. On top of a a penalty to skillcasting % during grip, there is

evidently so much lag you cant blast, or even recall.

Secondly, and this has bothered me for a while, Thief primes get Poison

Monk primes get Kensai. Poison makes a thief_PRIME the lhardest stabber

yet kensai does not make monk_PRIME any tougher than a monk 2nd.

After 3x40 levels as monk prime these are my only two complaints.

bt

A green lizard hates your guts!

A green lizard sees you circling in for the kill, and deftly steps out of the way!

<761hp 426ma 31mv>

You miss a green lizard with your hit.

You are viciously massacred by a green lizard’s hit.

You are viciously massacred by a green lizard’s hit.

You are viciously massacred by a green lizard’s hit.

You are viciously massacred by a green lizard’s hit.

You are viciously massacred by a green lizard’s hit.

You are viciously massacred by a green lizard’s hit.

You miss a green lizard with your hit.

<289hp 426ma 31mv>

word

You miss a green lizard with your hit.

You are viciously massacred by a green lizard’s hit.

You are viciously massacred by a green lizard’s hit.

You wish that your wounds would stop BLEEDING that much!

You are viciously massacred by a green lizard’s hit.

You wish that your wounds would stop BLEEDING that much!

You have been KILLED!!

<-23hp 427ma 32mv>

Lie still; you are DEAD!!! :-(

<-23hp 427ma 32mv>

Monk prime forge

Monk prime suit is back. Forge note and specs on it are as follows:

I am terribly sorry, but what you ask is beyond my abilities to create,

however I do know of one who is capable of doing that which you ask. A

great seamstress does wander the world with her nomadic family. She can

most likely assist you in your goal. I have, however, researched your

request, and can inform you that she will be in need of a suit to pattern

the new armament from. Along with this old combat suit, she will require

robes made of a material not of this realm. To make the thread that must

be used to sew the two materials together she will need some skin of a

creature that exists in both our realm and the nether realm at once, some

bark from an ancient and exotic tree, and the dust from the wings of a

mythical psychic moth. A ring that has been enhanced to prevent the soul

from escaping its mortal shell and fleeing into the nether must be sewn

into the suit as well. Finally, for reasons unknown to me at this point,

a common mortal spell of protection is also needed to thicken the suit once

it is finished. Good luck old friend. —Neebrlyxxz

You recite an identify scroll which dissolves.

You feel informed:

Object ‘suit rugged battle armament’, Item type: CONTAINER

Item is: GLOW MAGIC DOUB-40-ITEM

Weight: 243, Value: 899999, Worn in: TAKE ABOUT

Can affect you as:

Affects: ARMOR by -5

Affects: REDUCE_DAMAGE by 2

Only those who are primary supreme monks, and have attained supremacy in at

least two classes may use this item.

Cackle!!!

Deathgrip vs Backstab

Has anyone managed to work out the basic formula/mechanics for damage done with Deathgrip?

As I understand it, the backstab works under the premise of a multiplier that goes up roughly every 4 levels. Strength related and EQ related +Dam modifiers are added to total damage prior to multiplication, then any Stab Dam and Focus related modifiers are added afterwards.

Is Deathgrip damage also based on a multiplied damage scale, or is it a level determined base damage divided over the 3-4 rounds needed before the grip is broken? The Imms have put some nice +hand dam eq out there, and I ’d like to see what it’s adding to.

Thanks for taking the time to read and consider this :D

Methyx,

Vagabond Monk

Critical Hit

The recent addition of Critical Hit to the Warrior’s skill list is a very nice touch and a welcome addition to all those warriors out there. However, it would seem logical that Monks have to do an intense study of anatomy to effectively damage with just bare hands. And thus, Critical Hit would be a skill that would naturally fall into a monk’s skill set as well as a warrior’s.

I understand that balance of play is a key consideration when changes such as this are made. Would adding the Critical Hit to the monk’s skill set over power the class? Opinions and comments would be appreciated in this monk’s humble quest for enlightenment ;)

Methyx

Vagabond Monk

BTW Keep up the good work…love the recent changes :)

Damage Progression

Hello All,

I presently play a classo T/Mo/C/M. It’s offered a nice set of skills, done fairly well as a solo classo, and has been pretty fun to play. Now, I’ve read that warriors get a damage bonus with advancing levels, and thieves gain a backstab multiplier at about every 4th level. I was wondering if anyone knew what the damage progression/table is for Monk’s plain empty hand attacks and for specialty attacks such as strike, kick, etc? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me on this :)
