Shifting Bugs

·4323 words·21 mins

Shift returning back from ferret, sometimes leaves you with about double the amount of hp’s the ferret had.

Human Form = 500hp

Shift Ferret Form = 25hp

Shift Return Human Form = 50hp

Shift return back from dragon to human form, nearly always looses 50hp’s, if you were full in human form before you shifted.

Human Form = 660hp

Shift Dragon = 1450hp

Shift Return Human Form = 600hp

On a few occasions I have quaffed potions in inv, like mobs do? I’ve checked my scripts for quaff scripts and I have none.

Sometimes mobs suddenly die, IE, in 5-10 rounds shorter than the duration you’d expect. I once killed the pale lantern fish in murkwood in 1 round without using breath weapons. flex

There is a strength bug on occasions, when you shift and unshift, all of a sudden you can’t pick stuff up anymore. You have to rent and re-enter the game.

Sure it isn’t an afk bug/feature? I get that a lot and it gets spendy.

I also find another shift bug.

After shifting, mid-fight I will no longer be able to see my inventory or anything on the ground, like the mob’s corpse. Seems to be a random occurrence. I can fight the same mob, with the same eq and spells, 10 times and it might happen two or three times.

This of course has killed me a number of times.

The fix is easy enough, change rooms after you shift return to human. However, it is not a good fix in the middle of aggros or in no exit rooms

Switcher

Hmm, I think I know what your talking about there, but I don’t think I have ever had it happen to me as long as darksight was up. As a consequence I keep darksight up as a perm spell.

Too bad switcher went bard instead of necro.

A bug I have noticed is that if the normal fly spell drops on you while shifted into a form that can fly innately, you still fall. You shouldn’t fall unless you return from flying form. I’ve almost died a couple times because of this.

Regarding not being able to see inventory: remember that when you shift your light drops into your inventory. With infravision alone, you can’t see inanimate objects like those in your inventory or corpses. You can see will o wisp for shiftable light.

Regarding strength issues: My guess is that you might just be noticing the difference between shifted strength and human form strength. I don’t know, I’ve never had a problem with it or had to rent. I can of course carry a lot with above 18/100 strength when shifted, so when I return I often can’t carry anything because I’m already overloaded.

Regarding ferret hp: That one is really annoying.

Regarding dragon hp: You probably have eq that bestows +50hp . When you shift, eq drops into inventory and your max is no longer 650, but 600 because you aren’t wearing the EQ that gives you the extra 50. So when you shift back, your max hp is 600, then you immediately wear the other eq again and your maxhp jumps up, but you have to regen those hp now. Hopefully that made sense.

After shifting, mid-fight I will no longer be able to see my inventory or anything on the ground, like the mob’s corpse. Seems to be a random occurrence. I can fight the same mob, with the same eq and spells, 10 times and it might happen two or three times.[/quote:19thnsy2]

This symptomizes a situation in which you have infravision but not darksight or an equipped light. Few lights have CAN-SHAPESHIFT, so unless you happen to use one, expect to see these symptoms in any dark room while shifted.

If you truly saw these symptoms inconsistently despite holding the factors you mentioned constant, this must be a mob that wanders from room to room, some dark and some not.

Sloth does have an actual bug with non-CAN-SHAPESHIFT lights and shapeshift. If you grab such a light, shift, and then return, the light will appear in your equipped items list, but it will not illuminate the room. Removing the light and grabbing it again fixes the problem.

There’s also a bug where shiftable lights “turn off” while you’re shifted (it appears to correspond to getting/putting from a container while shifted). Removing and holding the light fixes it though.

My mana regen varies by 1-2 points from time to time as well. I’m wearing the same eq, and the same spells are up, I might even be regening in the same room, but there is often a 1-2 point variation. I’ll post some proof in time, cause I figure you all won’t believe me!

I have found that while shifted and then returning, half my drachma keeps disappearing, to the point that I have now only got 1 drachma from a total of 1865.

Could I please be reimbursed for this.

Also, paid a visit to Posiedon’s Realm. While there I forgot to cast water breath, so I shifted into a sea dragon. Guess sea dragons are like boats, being as they are not able to water breath.

You made it.

The reason you lose hp when you shift return is simple. Ferrets only have 31 hp and it would be possible to shift into a ferret when hurt, then regen up to 31 hp and then shift return for full hp. To stop that they made it where you lose some hps when you shift return(I am not sure if its time related or what). Granted it sucks to have to heal yourself but I don’t know of any other way to stop ppl from abusing ferret hps.

The climb probably fails because cobra form is relatively low level.

I’m not sure I agree with ya here Mike, but one way we could check… can someone with 18 nat con, fully heal up, shift ferret and shift back and tell me if your at max hp’s?

The fact that I have 606hp with 15 con… and I lose exactly 56 hp’s which is the difference of me having 18 con, is too much of a coincidence. But I could be wrong.

662-61 is not quite 56

That bug is a seperate one Mike. When it comes to hp loss there are two.

I call that one the “ferret shift bug”… not to be confused with the “loose hp for any shift” bug.

The ferret shift bug generally makes you loose ALL your hp except for about 60 or so hitpoints. I generally loose 600hp in that bug.

The “Loose hp for any shift” bug which I am blaming on Con, only makes me loose the amount of hp that having con points gives. Roughly 3x18 or 56 hit points. (If my nat con is only 15, which it is)

Possibly the one stryx mentioned… I was shifted dragon, fly dropped, and I lost the fly through dragon…

“SPIRIT WATCHER”

See also: SPIRITS DISMISS

Usage: cast ‘spirit watcher’ [nickname]

Duration: permanent, until dismissed or slain

Level: Mage 20, Cleric 20, Druid 20, Bard 20, Necromancer 20

Spellbook: cheaply bound spellbook

Stratum: Summoning

Min mana: 20

Mana regen: -1 while spirit is around[/color:wkr7latj]

This easy spell summons the least powerful sort of spirit, a watcher spirit.

The exact nature of the spirit depends on which sort of magic the caster

is most expert at, and also possibly on whether the caster is more affiliated

with beatific or infernal powers.

In addition to the usual tasks that all spirits can perform, watcher spirits

can keenly follow and guard a target. This is especially useful for monsters

that you (the caster) intend to kill as soon as you get around to it. A

watcher will follow the target around and warn off anybody else who looks

as if they are considering poaching it. If someone has the gall to attack

anyway after receiving this warning, the watcher will let you know so you can

visit upon the interloper a suitable vengeance.

When you have conjured a horde of spirits, it can become a burden to tell

them apart. To aid with this, you can give each spirit a nickname when

conjured.

Not sure if it has been yet… align is bad from too much posting on the board (), can’t be bothered fixing it to check eudaemon.

I’ve noticed that as well. In the last several months, being healed while in form seems to return your max hp to whatever you have unshifted.

Crier won’t let me edit…

I’m assuming that the unshifted hp returns on heal because of something to do with the chunk of code that checks your max hp to prevent heals giving you >maxhp. My guess would be that it’s checking your unshifted hp rather than shifted, and somehow resetting max at the same time.

None of that’s based on actual evidence though, just conjecture.

REAL shifters play druid prime! None of this half baked stuff…

I’d like to think that having a Pit Fiend that does 5 massacres/brutal massacres is more fun to have than 20 more mana regen + the extra % for being druid. Assuming they fix this healing problem a 4 attack valkyre with 300 mana for heals and 300 hp heals would be more useful, but perhaps that necro class would be a nice addition :?… Oh not to mention those druid primes that get 100 extra hp in shift? Yeah, he brings up a lot of issues regarding the mud, specifically dealing with his prime class, but I think it’s a good thing. More people should vocalize their questions and concerns. To me it doesn’t sound like whining (at least how Jezer puts it) and more like shedding light on issues that may not be transparent. How many bugs has he pointed out? How many people have benefited from his posts?

If everyone advocated, explored, plundered, exposed, pilfered and cajoled their prime classo as much as he did, I’m sure we’d get a lot of kinks worked out.

Keep up the great work Jezer and when I play more, expect to see similar rants from the Necro prime side.

I was on during a crash a couple of days ago.

you’re not the only one. apparently there were some changes to object flags in general. nothing is humming/glowing. shoulder gear is going onto neck. shift flags are missing. its a big mess.

I emailed the appropriate folks. If its not fixed soon and you see me online, just bug me to flag your gear shiftable for you. Although, i suspect a spelling mistake with regard to the shift gear, so if i fix it for you now, i may have to fix it again for u when the coders do their thing.

Well..

Just to say this…Thanx a lot to Juggleblood. Most active imm online most of the times and at the very least, he bothers to keep pple informed on what’s happening.

Kudos to u!

heh, thx simon, but more thanks to the coders who are improving the way flags work. Someone seems to have invested a good amount of time in it. I know its a pain for us when the code is under construction, but there’s been a lot of good improvement, even if its not always visible on the surface. Maybe we could talk Akasha/etc into an honor nocap event, when the mud is stable. Mud seems a lil dead lately, prolly in part due to the crashes. We could all use some love from above.
