But i wasnt able to find any.

So if anyone knows about them, i would be pleased for links.

First of all, max dex stat.

I forged finally my rhodo rune and attached it to ars magica.

Was surprised though, that while shifted, it raises max dex stat, but dont gives extra ac.

After speaking with severals imms and players, noone can tell me, if that was done for special, or just missed in development and should be count as a bug.

So i want to discuss, if it should works in forms like as unshifted at all.

And if it dont, then maybe it should be written in some help files. To prevent missunderstanding from all other players, who would like to raise max dex for forms.

Same about other max stats.

I know, that max str works fine, and max int giving some mana also.

No ideas about max con or max wis. It is posible to raise it whle shifted, so interesting question about them also.

Another question is how max stats from avatar shop works for forms?

Do they affect player while shifted? And even, should they affect, if they are not?

Same question for other avatar shop bonuses: damroll, armor, damage reduce, spell damage, resists etc

How they works now?

Mythic forms skill

It seems that skill description isnt updated from s3. And even no tarantula, neither seadragon forms anymore. And forms level are not match. You maybe still need items to shift into 2 left forms, but what mythic form is used for then? Kinda broken or useless skill, untill you can say what exactly it is doing.

Maybe its time to check it and fix help file? Or even redo skill to really do something, since it seems that it dont fit with current system on its own.

TREES!

I would like to see a small change made in the Druid class. Let the Tree form have recuperative powers superior to, or at least equal to, those of the default form. Then you would see Trees growing all across the land, I wager. Because they’re so cute.

So you want to be a druid.

Druid is an interesting prime class to play. At low levels your shift forms are pretty poor fighters and you will find yourself largely a support char, depending on the rest of your class order. Druid prime shifting is superior to non prime shifting and the shield of thorns spell at high levels helps with shifted combat greatly. Druids are able to solo very large mobs by harnessing the power of the vast mana regen. They shift into a combat form and fight until their hit points get low. Then they exit from combat, return to human form to heal themselves up and then shift again. It’s a nice class in that you are able to operate solo through the power of your shifted forms, but you are welcomed into groups because of your good mana regen.

Supplementing druid class:

Cleric isn’t absolutely necessary for druid prime, but it still helps greatly. The cleric spell aegis and supplication pets are very helpful.

Mage is a popular addition to druid as you will want to be able to harness your high mana into blasting in a group.

Warrior is not hugely popular for druid primes, because they depend largely on their shift forms when soloing, and act as supplemental casters in groups. However warrior is still a good addition if you’re interested in balancing out your character to be able to fight melee unshifted for running smaller mobs and coins, etc.

Monk is nice for balancing out a caster prime because it adds toughness and gives an initial attack.

Thief is also not widely chosen by druid primes, but again it helps to balance out the melee capabilities of the character.

Necromancer is a popular choice because of helpful spells like wraithform and spectral shield. In my opinion druid prime isn’t really cut out for using large necropets. If you you’re taking necro to fight with pets, perhaps add warrior or monk to the class order as well. Necros are drawn into combat by their pets.

Bard is a very nice supplement to druid. Bard songs are very useful to a group. Bard is a non caster class and has more hp, better armor, and can protect. Also very important is that Bard can glance into mob inventories.

The New Changes To Druid

Judge has been working hard on fixing some of the druid problems it seems. I have both good and bad news to report… Please update this thread as you find stuff…

Mythic forms at least have more hitpoints.

Mythic forms have more damage… +4 on my phoenix.

You can prac when your shifted.

I lost 3 mana regen points standing in the changes. Judge said there was a bug in the old save command that cause points to stack.

I got aggroed as a ferret killing the kalamari. I think this is a bug and it’s being looked at. Another 90m xp lost on bugs.

The biggest change however, is that returning back to human form when I was shifted phoenix, does not return me near full human health. This has always been the case since I made tarantula form and it’s going to be hard for me to get used too.

When I report shifted, it does not report the hp’s of my human form so I am guessing that eudaemons will now heal shifted players.

I’m told a lot of bugs quaffing potions while shifted etc are also fixed.

So all in all, it’s a mixed bag for players so far. A lot of bugs have been fixed that were annoying, but also the ones that made it easier for us.

The new hp’s and dam is awesome, but the having to heal after unshifting is definately going to cut the solo xp run.

Unshift HP Loss

I’ve talked about this before… but I would like to get to the bottom of what causes it, as I am trying to work out my future path for spending xp tokens.

Lets say I have 691hp.

I shift into say dragon form.

Then I immediately return back.

I now only have 625hp.

What causes this loss? There are two theories…

1, The characters nat con is used to determine the returning hp’s and because mine is 15 I loose hp’s.

2, This theory which I believe was put forward by Medios, the game is programmed to remove a little hp automatically when you unshift.

I need to know which one it is, because if it is infact the first theory, then I will be buying con points as 5x40… otherwise… I would be wasting my time.

The easiest way to check this, is for somebody who is at least lvl 40 druid, with 18 [b:3j7j2mpw]NAT[/b:3j7j2mpw] con, shift dragon, unshift and then report back there hp before and after the shifting… If you could do that, it would be much appreciated.

Sloth Pics

As some of you may or may not be aware, we have a player pix page at

www.sloth.dragoness.net

If you wish to have your pic along with your charname (and, if you wish, your real name) posted to it, please send email with pics ATTACHED (please do not drag and drop them to the email if you are using aol or similar email programs) to me at ember@slothmud.org with the subject line Sloth Pics. For example my tarantula has 1650hp, but with stamina (+20atm) etc its 1710hp. I calculated you can wear almost 300hp in extra hitpoints gathering items from in the game.

I’m thinking…

REGEN MODE

MAXMANA MODE

MAXHP MODE

cast ‘restoration’ $me

SHIFTMODE

SHAPESHIFT

Obviously for the intial combat round… if the +300hp’s is multiplied out… I could get an intial shift of plus 500-600hp’s?

Idea is semi useful mainly only on those mobs that wipe 400-500 per round, you get one more round in without unshift/reshift problems economics etc. But I accept it’s not terribly useful… although… is a 3khp Piasa Bird on the cards (during futility) possible doing this..? I would like to give it my best shot.

When it’s all said and done… the essential shortage on druid chars… is mana… even if we had 10000hp’s we still have the same bottleneck so, stop ya whining ya pansy tanks. I chose Druid as my prime class, and cleric after that, and want to have necro and mage in my classo, but am not sure which should come first. I heard that the closer to prime the necro is the greater the undead control, but I don’t know a lot about mages. The monk seems equal to or stronger than the druid at these two levels, but often in games of this nature the magic characters are much stronger when they hit the higher levels.

When does a druid achieve parity with a fighter type character?

When are the animal forms significantly better for combat than a moderately well equipped druid in human form? Dog seems a bit weaker, frog maybe a little better. Drake looks impressive with three physical attacks plus fire breath, but the physical attacks are on the weak side and fire breath uses up a lot of mana. The most impressive thing about the Drake is that it seems to be hard to hit. He is fun to play when you have a lot of mana.

Do the animal forms’ abilities increase with levels? In other words, do things like the “to hit” values increase? I know the stats like strength and dexterity do not. If they forms don’t improve with levels there is a big gap between level 12 and 16, where the only fighting form you have is the Drake, at least that is what I gather by reading the help file.

Does anyone use the Tree form? If you stand there as a tree, do the mobs eventually leave the scene?

Does anyone find the early forms useful in some way? I tried using the ferret to pick the cage door locks in the Newbatia Downside, but he did not have enough skill. Cat might be useful for exploring I suppose.

Do all the forms use the same amount of mana or do the earlier forms use less? The few times I’ve looked at this it was not obvious to me.

Thanks.

Druid Guild in Niebelung?

Were is the guild from Settlestone? A couple of questions related to this:

To be able to shapeshift requires that you travel very light, you can carry almost nothing. I was wondering, do the rest of you even bother to use a backpack, or is there a trick to getting more carrying capacity with a druid.

When I do have my possessions down to the level needed to shapeshift, I run into another problem with looting the corpse; it gives me the error that I’m out of room when trying to get the coins. Is this just a problem with the lower level animals like the Cat and Ferret, because they don’t have enough strength? And if so, at what level will it get to be easy to use the animal form for all my fighting, Drake maybe?

By the way, can the Frog actually fight at its level? Seems like a silly animal for level 10, maybe they should have made it a salamander…

A poll!

(nt)

Some clarification

I was reading through a lot of the older forum topics last night, and I saw a lot about the nerf’ing of various classes. Since most of what I read was conjecture by players, and at least a month old (and I know there have been a lot of changes to the MUD recently), I was wondering if anyone would mind spelling out the benefits of being a Druid Prime over being, say, Druid Tertiary?

I know primes get Canopied Arbor and Shield of Thorns. (Our tweaked magic-rope and weakened sanc)

I also know that we get a regen bonus for being Prime, but I’m sketchy on exactly what that bonus is. I’ve heard from someone in-game that we get a 25% regen bonus, where non-primes get less. I’ve also read in the forum that we get a flat +30mr, which I believe I read has been nerfed down a bit.

As far as shapeshift is concerned, I’ve heard rumors that Druid Primes get a bonus to shifted hp/ma/mv. I’ve also heard that primes get a bonus to stats, and that we don’t get any bonus to shifted forms at all.

When I started Sloth, I was just coming from an RP enforced MUD, and the reasons I chose Druid as my prime (without knowing much of anything about the MUD) were purely RP driven. I just wanted to play a Druid style character.

Now that I’m beginning to understand a bit more about the mechanics of the game, and I’ve noticed that not many people RP, I’m wondering exactly how much my choice of primary class is hurting me.

Is a Wa/Dr just as powerful of a Druid as a Dr/Wa? If so, does the same kind of relationship exist between other classes, or have Druids been singled out?

Thanks for everyone’s input!

Can shifted forms strike?

I noticed that even before I reached Monk lvl 8, I was able to ‘strike’ while in shifted form. The hitpoint regeneration gain doesn’t seem to be worth the mana loss.

Canopied arbor - in a gatable room magic rope is by far a safer alternative, albeit a little tougher to enforce in a large group of people. Only possible use is having a bunch of these in a row to produce a sort of “safe run”, but this seems a bit excessive.

It’d be nice if druids had at least one blasting spell that wasn’t overly expensive and didn’t have the possibility to pick up other creatures in the room.

The druid forms are pretty unusable. It’s easier for me to solo using flame strike than to try and shift.

And don’t even get me started on dawnfire.

Druids

Thats right, i want to discuss the druid class. Alot of people on this mud seem to think that druid is a very powerful and unbalanced classo, second opinion is very true, first one isnt really so.

Now i havent been playing higher level druids, but i did play it through all the newbie levels till 2x40.

Now im not going to talk about abilities of the forms, its a different story, what really bothers me is the Normal characters powers (ac, spells, skills, damage) versus shapeshifted characters powers.

Now there are 19 forms, forms starts with a ferret with a single attack and +9ac and at a single 40 you can shift into a wurm with 4x extremely hard attacks and -7ac, at 2x40 you can shift into a naga which has -8ac and 4x massacre/extreme attacks, and at 3x40 you shift into a dragon which has 4x massacre attacks and -9ac. Now you can presumably get shapeshiftable +stat eq to raise your stats when you are shifted - but there is almost none, you can presumably get ARMOR equipment - but again, there is not enough eq even to get you an extra -1ac point, now this is understandable because if there was - people with dragon form would be running -11ac at 3x40 with iron skin, immortals obviously dont want that. But herein lies the question - should low level forms be capped because high level forms will become stronger if there is alot of +stat and armor shapeshiftable equipment.

Now let me give you an example of how stupidly everything is oraginised

Dragon -9ac (3x40), Naga -8ac (2x40), Wurm -7ac(1x40), Wyvern -6ac (36), Roc -5ac (34), Croc -4ac (32), Elephant -3ac (30), Griffon -2ac (28), Cobra -1ac (24) Sealion 0ac (22), Hawk +1ac (20)

Now, at level 20, a warrior prime can actually be running -7ac!!! while druid in his form is actually running +1ac with 2 extreme attacks - and there is absolutely nothing to change it!!!!!! Of course a druid with relatively good stats and say being warrior second can be running -7ac and doing much more damage w/o ever using shapeshift untill level 38 when he gets wurm form, but at level 38 a warrior prime is already at -9ac if not -10 with iron skin. Of course having a dragon form at 3x40 is nice, but how about lowbie druids? Are we not to use shapeshift at all?

I have no clue why was it done this way, was it done to balance something else, or was it just never thought about, but the solution looks pretty simple to me. Since ac and damage and probably everything else is stat dependant while you are shifted, why not make a whole new bunch of +stat eq and make a stat cap of 18 on all the forms, so even a lowbie with a hawk form would have a chance to get nice AC with enough equipment to raise his dexterity from 14 to 18 and would have a chance to get somewhat decent AC, or to get a decent damage get a lot of str eq?
