And it works that way with ordinary attacks of all types and with monks’ strikes and even with thieves’ circle stabs. However it doesnt work with shapeshift forms special attack(I’ve tested with the equus’s kick and griffon’s dive). Those attacks keep going through ethereal mobs. Is this behavior by design? Or maybe it could be fixed one day?

Bard song questions

Couple things - first is that it’s interesting with all of the changes to bard songs that nobody’s commented on this section since ‘06.

Second, I think it is GREAT that bards can now see who their song affects. My question is has anyone figured out how this works yet? I thought that by targeting the leader that I’d get as many ppls as my song can target, but that’s not the case. There are several instances where I’d target the leader of the group and only affect two people (out of 6) or sometimes even 1, maybe not even the intended target!

If anyone could shed some light on this, that’d be great. Just for fyi - I’m bard 4th w/ little charisma eq bonuses. Any additional information would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, a message to the immorts: Give Bards the ability to build off one another! It could mean increasing length of song effect or increasing potency of affected peoples. Either way - it’s a way cool idea.

luck gods help

hows it work?

do you sing it in an area and it works on all mobs repoping in that area?

if no players can be in area for repop, do you sing and then recall?

Luke

Nope the bard has to be there and the area is going to repop. Bard Necros has a good chopping power… lets count: at 4x40 20 I can summon 3 undeads - 2 wilewights and 1 banshee… these are 11 attacks… if they all do not miss and if I sing gods of war, then we’ll produce 110 Damage… nd it costs 35 mana to start singing + 35 mana for every tick… BUT if you cast any spell (acid blind, heal self, web etc.) you will stop singing and have to resing again (that’s 35 mana)… conclusion: bards + undeads are good for fat chop-style mobs.

Bard’s songs continue working for some time after bard stops singing… I think you will spend this time for shifting into animal :)

Secondary bard gets DEX as the 2nd rolling stat, good apportunity of making good AC mode, th second high CAP for charisma.

Bards were planned as a group oriented class, they get solo power when raise levels for other classes :) not many bards? I’m not necessarily saying they shouldn’t suck, just stating it as a fact. The good solo classes have either a strong opening move (like backstab), or a strong defense (like images). Bards have neither an opening move nor any defense - they have to rely on their other classes for this, which leads to my next point…

Most bard songs seem to be worthless unless you wear +charisma equipment, which prevents you from wearing +dam, +hand dam, +dam reduce, etc eq, which is what makes opening moves worthwhile - so I end up leading with cry or web.

Back to +charisma for a second. Nearly every bard song relies on it. There are a few songs you can use without any, but mobs make nearly all of their saves without it. Imagine having to wear special eq just for blind, or web, or damn to work. I don’t even know the names of half of my songs, because I got tired of them failing when I got them, and haven’t gone back and tried them since.

Being the first bard to avatar, and being level 1 avatar, I don’t have a lot of information on how bards are affected at avatar levels, but there’s nothing I see that indicates an increase of power for bards. Although some of the new skills and spells are really sweet, there’s certainly no new songs or spells that increase a bard’s power. I’d hate to think that at 5x40, my prime class is no more powerful than it was at 1x40.

Some avatar level songs for bards:

increased spell bonus, heal bonus, hp regen bonus, mr bonus, any sort of bonus - while players are awake.

A song that forces an area to reset, or lets an area reset while ppl are in it when it normally wouldn’t, or speeds up the reset time - these are all odd, but then again so is 7 luck gods.

I welcome comments and suggestions, but before you say “deal with it”, I’m not complaining about bards, I like my choice, it suits what I like doing. However, there’s reasons why bards aren’t popular, so I’m trying to offer thoughts on why.

Show effect on bardic songs?

Hey,

Been playing about a month now, and had a few issues i think might be able to be brought up.

The main thing I would like to see would be some sort of comment to show songs are acutally working. 1/2 of the songs give no hint whether they take effect or not, you sing and hope it works. Most other abilities that effect mobs had some sort of comment to say wheather they work or not (blind, curse, web, weaken, silence, etc.) it would be good to know whether you songs are taking effect too

Something like:" the mob starts to sing along " or something for Sanctuary of the soul, “the mob is soothed by your song” for sacred reprieve…etc.

Just an idea….every other class is fully aware whether their abilities are working or not…would be nice for the bard to have the same.

Less important, and not as necessary…it would be nice to be able to have some way of seeing what your friendly songs are affecting too. Sure the target sees, but you dont know, as the bard, who all you are getting. [this might help for large groups with multiple bards, if primary sees he missed so and so with gods, the secondary bard can sing and target to get them…etc.

Thanks!

Tetsu

What are the prime skills of a Bard?

See subject.

Are you speaking of exclusive skills or all, because the information provided at this link (<LINK_TEXT text=“http://www.slothmud.org/sloth/pnsite/pn … d=6&nuke=1”>http://www.slothmud.org/sloth/pnsite/pn723/html/isabo_royal_library.php?id=6&nuke=1</LINK_TEXT>) are pretty explanatory. Granted about the only two that I haven’t seen on other classes are ‘glance’ and ‘hide’, but I’ve only been back for about 2 weeks now.

Morkeleb

If you’re speaking of prime only skills, Bards have instruments.I’m not sold on the idea yet, since they take up an eq slot to use, but they can help 3 different affects for bard songs:

length of song (which I really never had an issue with, though I think there’s been changes made since tali was little, which would make this useful at low levels)
# of mobs that can listen - which would be nice if there were frequently large numbers of mobs in a room. You can only sing to a certain number of mobs, dependant on who knows what. There’s very few rooms with large numbers of mobs in the room where it’s necessary to increase the number you’re singing to.
Cost of mana - there is a % drop in the mana that is used on songs. This is an awesome benefit, because the songs really don’t use a huge amount of mana as it is, so you almost get to sing for free.

Personally, I have all 4 instruments that I’ve found so far, and I don’t use them. The only one I occasionally use is a neck instrument with +2 Ma Regen. I don’t really worry about the bard affects on it, since songs are only a small portion of the abilities that I use. I usually end up using mage or cleric spells more often, and then occasionally use a song here or there. I don’t use any instrument in AC mode because none of the ones that have been found have any AC - but on the other hand, I wouldn’t really expect a lute, a viol, a cornett or a lyre to provide me any sort of protection.

If you’re asking about general spells and skills that bards get, do “spells bard”…that’s where all of the unique abilities are.
